Widows are entitled to family pension even after remarriage: CAT

The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) has said the widow of a deceased government servant is eligible for family pension even after remarriage. Administrative member Praveen Mahajan ordered restoration of the family pension to Delhi resident Renu Gupta (47), wife of late Pawan Kumar Gupta, an employee of the Defence Ministry at the time of his death, saying Gupta had requested for transfer of the family pension in the name of her son after her re-marriage without understanding the consequences. The CAT asked the Ministry of Defence to transfer the pension claim to her from her son's name within four months. "Without understanding the consequences, she requested for transfer of the family pension in the name of her son after her marriage. However, the said family pension will become inadmissible after the son attains the age of 25 years," the tribunal said, adding that, "It has been held by the government that even in the case of remarriage of a widow, family pension can be ...

German strike plunges Ryanair into fresh turmoil

Thousands of Ryanair passengers faced travel disruption Wednesday as German pilots and cabin crew walked off the job, in the latest flare-up of a bitter Europe-wide battle for better pay and conditions. The Irish budget carrier said it was cancelling 150 out of 400 scheduled flights to and from Germany because of the walkout, which it slammed as "unacceptable" and "unnecessary". It also said it may have to close some bases and slash jobs if the stoppages drag on. Germany's Cockpit pilots' federation and the Verdi service workers' union called the 24-hour strike, which started at 03:00 am (local time), after they said talks with Ryanair management were deadlocked. The strike comes as Ryanair is already bracing for a mass coordinated walkout by cabin crew in Belgium, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal and Spain. Andhra Govt to give Rs 1000 per month to unemployed youth

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday announced the launch of 'Yuva Nestam Scheme' on October 2, which would provide unemployment dole of Rs 1000 each to empower youth.He said that the scheme's major motive is to empower the youth by providing skill development, self-employment opportunities and use the youth power for the development of an economy.Discussing the 'Yuva Nestam Scheme' in the state Legislative Council, the chief minister said that youth should keep their attitude positive and strive to learn new things on a continuous basis by updating skills using technology."The state government has been providing skill development training to 10 lakh youth and providing employment opportunities to them. Federation of Anganwadi workers and helpers demands monthly wage of Rs 18000

A federation of Anganwadi workers and helpers Tuesday welcomed the increase in honorarium for Asha and Anganwadi workers, but demanded that their minimum wages be increased to Rs 18,000 per month and they be given pension and social security. Prime Minister Narendra Modi Tuesday announced an increase of Rs 1,500 in the monthly honorarium of Anganwadi workers, mini-Anganwadi workers by Rs 1,250 per month and workers Rs 750 per month, making it Rs 4,500, Rs 3,500 and Rs 2,250 per month respectively. NSDC targets five lakh apprenticeship contracts in one year

The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) is aiming to facilitate five lakh apprenticeship contracts in the next one year, its MD and CEO Manish Kumar said on Tuesday. "It (the contracts) earlier focused on manufacturing but now this has been extended to the services sector. Job roles were earlier defined by the government, but now industries can," he said, adding, that a scheme was rolled out to support industries to take up apprenticeship programmes. With a target of 50 lakh apprentices to be trained by 2019-20, the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) was launched in 2016 with an outlay of Rs 10,000 crore. Kumar said that earlier, the responsibility for implementing the programme was with the Director General of Training (DGT) under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE). "Now, this has got expanded as NSDC and state governments become part of it. Several agencies are being involved to scale it up," he said.

Centre increases remuneration of Anganwadi, ASHA workers

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced an increase in the remuneration given to Anganwadi and Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) workers.The announcement, which will be effective from next month, was made during a video interaction with ASHA, Anganwadi and Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) workers today.The Prime Minister announced the doubling of routine incentives given by the Union Government to ASHA workers. In addition, all ASHA workers and their helpers would be provided free insurance cover under the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and the Prime Minister Suraksha Bima Yojana.Besides that, Prime Minister Modi also announced a significant increase in the honorarium given to Anganwadi workers. One arrested in Delhi sanitation workers death

The Delhi Police on Monday arrested a supervisor in connection with the death of five sanitation workers who allegedly died after inhaling toxic gases while cleaning a sewer.The workers were cleaning the sewer tank near DLF flats in west Delhi's Moti Nagar area on Sunday without any safety equipment.Earlier in the day, the Delhi Government ordered an inquiry into the matter and sought a report within three days.Speaking to ANI, Rai said, "It has been directed to complete investigation of the death case of five labourers near DLF flats in Moti Nagar within three days and submit the report before Labour department."He also announced a compensation of Rs. 10 lakh each for the families of all the deceased.The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has also taken the note of the incident and issued notice to Delhi's Chief Secretary and Police Commissioner. Dnyaneshwar Mulay gets two more months as Secretary (CPV), MEA

Senior diplomat Dnyaneshwar M Mulay has been re-employed for two months as Secretary, Consular, Passport and Visa or CPV division, in the External Affairs Ministry, an official order stated Monday. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved re-employment of Mulay on contract basis from December 1, 2018 to January 31, 2019, the order issued by Personnel Ministry stated. He is a 1983-batch officer of Indian Foreign Service. Besides holding the charge of CPV, he also heads the Overseas Indian Affairs (OIA) division in the Ministry of External Affairs. "In his current charge as Secretary (CPV & OIA), Mulay is keen that passport services within India are easily accessible to every Indian citizen and similarly the Indian visa process is made more efficient. US adds 201,000 jobs in Aug, unemployment at 3.9%

As many as 201, 000 jobs were added in the United States in the month of August, with the unemployment rate staying at 3.9 per cent, the Labour Department confirmed on Friday.According to the department's monthly payroll data, average hourly wages witnessed a 2.9 per cent growth and are at the best rates since 2009.
