The Uttar Pradesh special task force arrested seven members of a gang in Agra on Thursday for allegedly duping youths by offering them railway jobs. The arrests were made near the Agra Cantonment railway station after the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) tipped-off the police about a gang issuing fake appointment letters of jobs in the railway subsidiary, a statement said. The accused have confessed to luring unemployed youths, who belong to smaller towns, for employment as booking clerk, announcer and cook in the IRCTC for Rs 6-7 lakh. As many as 18 such appointment letters, 17 offer letters, six cheques worth Rs 12.82 lakh and Rs 38,400 in cash were recovered from their possession, it said. Five of the accused belong to different districts of Bihar and two hail from Kannauj district of UP, it added.

Only 37.45 per cent of the placements provided by the Rajasthan Skill and Livelihoods Development Corporation (RSLDC) during 2014-17 were genuine, according to a CAG report. According to the audit report on social and general sector, which was tabled Wednesday in the Rajasthan Assembly, 37.45 per cent of the placements provided by the agency were genuine. The RSLDC, a premier agency for imparting skill training programmes, could achieve only 48.90 per cent of the targets for the three skill training programmes during 2014-17, the report said. The programmes are Regular Skill Training Programme (RSTP) for self employment, Employment Linked Skill Training Programme (ELSTP) to train youths in various skills and Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana. The West Bengal government Tuesday denied rumours doing the rounds on social media that it has instructed all departments to stop promotion of its employees till the Lok Sabha due in 2019. Promotions are being granted to its employees as per their existing service conditions and would continue as per existing norms, the state finance department said in a statement here. "There is no iota of truth in what has been circulated on the social media. The circulation has been done with mischievous intent in order to create confusion amongst the employees," the statement said. It is also stated that the annual increment of 3 per cent due on July 1 every year to state government employees and other organisations would continue as usual.
