7 held for running railway job racket

The Uttar Pradesh special task force arrested seven members of a gang in Agra on Thursday for allegedly duping youths by offering them railway jobs. The arrests were made near the Agra Cantonment railway station after the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) tipped-off the police about a gang issuing fake appointment letters of jobs in the railway subsidiary, a statement said. The accused have confessed to luring unemployed youths, who belong to smaller towns, for employment as booking clerk, announcer and cook in the IRCTC for Rs 6-7 lakh. As many as 18 such appointment letters, 17 offer letters, six cheques worth Rs 12.82 lakh and Rs 38,400 in cash were recovered from their possession, it said. Five of the accused belong to different districts of Bihar and two hail from Kannauj district of UP, it added.

Ex-employee drags L&T to NCLT; firm denies charges

A shareholder and former employee of Larsen and Toubro (L&T) has approached the NCLT alleging oppression and mismanagement of employee welfare fund and assets of the company. However, L&T refuted the claims, terming them as "frivolous" and "baseless". The petitioner Uday Dixit sought action against the engineering major and its chief A M Naik. Dixit, in his petition, alleged that the company, which is the only large firm majority-owned by employees, had committed fraud on shareholders and employees. Denying the allegations, an L&T spokesperson said, "The petitioner has been filing frivolous and baseless cases against L&T and its management in the past few years. The courts have already dismissed five of these cases including the SLP in the Honourable Supreme Court of India in September 2013 and the writ petition in the Honourable High Court, Mumbai in March 2018. 52.02 days of employment generated under MGNREGA: CAG report

Under the MGNREGA scheme, 52.02 days of employment was generated as against 100 days guaranteed in the rural employment Act, according to a CAG report. The performance audit of the activities carried out under the scheme during the period 2012-13 fiscal to 2016-17 fiscal in selected districts also revealed that the annual development plan and labour budget were not approved timely and quorum for approval by the Gram Sabha was not fulfilled. 37.45% of placements provided by RSLDC genuine: CAG report

Only 37.45 per cent of the placements provided by the Rajasthan Skill and Livelihoods Development Corporation (RSLDC) during 2014-17 were genuine, according to a CAG report. According to the audit report on social and general sector, which was tabled Wednesday in the Rajasthan Assembly, 37.45 per cent of the placements provided by the agency were genuine. The RSLDC, a premier agency for imparting skill training programmes, could achieve only 48.90 per cent of the targets for the three skill training programmes during 2014-17, the report said. The programmes are Regular Skill Training Programme (RSTP) for self employment, Employment Linked Skill Training Programme (ELSTP) to train youths in various skills and Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana. Irdai puts on hold circular on genetic disorder claims

Insurance regulator Irdai has put on hold its directive issued in March to insurers with regards to rejection of claims related to 'genetic disorder'. On August 27, the Supreme Court of India, while hearing Special Leave Petition (Civil), granted stay on the operation of a Delhi High Court judgement that held that exclusionary clause of 'genetic disorders' in insurance policies is too broad, ambiguous and discriminatory, violative Article 14 of the Constitution dealing with right to equality. "In view of...stay granted by the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India, Circular (of March 19, 2018) stands abated until further orders," the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (Irdai) said in a circular. Farmers, workers rally in national capital

Thousands of farmers and workers took out a protest march in the national capital Wednesday demanding remunerative prices for farm produce as per the Swaminathan Committee recommendations, loan waiver and a minimum wage of not less than Rs 18,000 a month. Organised by Left-wing farmers' and workers' outfits, the 'Mazdoor Kishan Sangharsh Rally', began from the Ramlila Maidan and culminated at the Parliament Street. WB govt denies 'stop promotion' rumour on social media

The West Bengal government Tuesday denied rumours doing the rounds on social media that it has instructed all departments to stop promotion of its employees till the Lok Sabha due in 2019. Promotions are being granted to its employees as per their existing service conditions and would continue as per existing norms, the state finance department said in a statement here. "There is no iota of truth in what has been circulated on the social media. The circulation has been done with mischievous intent in order to create confusion amongst the employees," the statement said. It is also stated that the annual increment of 3 per cent due on July 1 every year to state government employees and other organisations would continue as usual. "The 3 per cent increment due this year from July 1, 2018 has already been released with the pay of all employees. Subsequent increments will be released as per existing norms," the statement added.

Sebi employees assoc seeks resolution of pending issues

A grouping of Sebi employees has said that its members would leave work one hour ealry on September 5 in order to highlight various pending issues. In a letter to the regulator, the Sebi Employees Association (SEA) has communicated that its members propose to leave the office an hour prior to the scheduled time by availing Permission to Leave Early (PLE), The association has sought resolution of issues pertaining to superannuation benefits by establishment of a concerned fund. Among other issues are formalising institutional mechanism for dealing with external agencies and holistic promotion policy, according to the letter. While Sebi management has engaged with the SEA in addressing the issues, tangible results are still awaited, it said.
