The National Commission for Women (NCW) took today cognisance of a case involving alleged killing of a woman by her boyfriend here and directed the Delhi Police to apprise it of the probe into the matter, an official said. According to a media report, the 18-year-old woman was reportedly shot dead by her boyfriend who suspected her of having an affair in Shalimar Bagh. The suspect was taken into police custody but he managed to escape, the official said, noting that the commission has written to the DCP of North West Delhi, Aslam Khan, to apprise it of the probe into the case.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Rajasthan police arrested today two government employees for accepting bribe in Sikar and Jhunjhunu districts in the state, an official said. A team of the ACB arrested Sri Ram, an electricity department employee in Sikar for accepting a bribe of Rs 2,000 from the complainant for allegedly providing electricity connection, Deputy Superintendent of Police, ACB, Kamal Prasad said. The accused had demanded Rs 5,000 but the deal was settled at Rs 2,000, he said. In another trap, an ACB team arrested a patwari, Anita Kumari, in Mukundgarh of Jhunjhunu district for taking a bribe of Rs 500 to settle a court case, he added.
A Pakistani court today gave the anti-corruption body a final chance to file its response by Wednesday in a petition seeking the revocation of the sentence handed to former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his family in the Avenfield properties corruption case. Sharif, 68, along with his daughter Maryam, 44, and his son-in-law Capt (retd) Muhammad Safdar, 54, are serving jail terms of 10 years, seven years and one year respectively in the Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, after the accountability court convicted them on July 6 over the family's ownership of four luxury flats in London through illegal means. Three people, including a mother-son duo, were killed and two injured in separate accidents in Baran and Kota districts of Rajasthan, the police said today. The deceased, Gayatri Galav (48) and her son Dinesh Galav, were killed last night when the motorcycle they were riding collided head-on with another near Baran's Madhopur village, head constable of Kishanganj police station Rohit Kumar said. They were returning home from a nearby village after celebrating 'Raksha Bandhan'. Babulal Kavit (30) and his 17-year-old brother-in-law, who were riding the other motorcycle, sustained critical injuries, Kumar said. The Calcutta High Court today set aside a single judge order directing the transfer of probe into the unnatural death of a Raniganj businessman's wife to the CBI from the state CID. A division bench comprising Chief Justice J Bhattacharya and Justice A Banerjee directed that the CID will continue its probe and asked the state investigating agency to file a progress report within three months. The bench set aside the August 21 order of Justice Rajasekhar Mantha following an appeal by the West Bengal police. A sub-inspector (SI), drawn for UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's security, allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service revolver at his residence here apparently over a domestic dispute, the police said today. The incident took place last evening at the residence of the deceased, Vikas Singh (35), in Gorakhpur's Budh Vihar area under the Khorabar police station limits, they said. The Supreme Court today agreed to examine a plea alleging that WhatsApp does not comply with the Indian laws including the provision for appointing a grievance officer. Seeking the response of the Centre and the instant messaging platform on the plea, a bench of Justices R F Nariman and Indu Malhotra issued notice to the Centre and the WhatsApp on a plea filed by an NGO, Centre for Accountability and Systemic Change (CASC), which also sought to restrain the platform from proceeding with its payment service unless it fully complied with the provisions of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The top court asked the parties to file their replies within four weeks. WhatsApp reportedly has over 200 million users in India and almost one million people are "testing" its payments service. A Special SIT court on Monday convicted two more people and acquitted three others in the 2002 Godhra train burning case in which 58 people lost their lives.Special judge HC Vora convicted Farukh Bhana and Imran alias Sheru Batik, and acquitted Hussain Suleman Mohan, Kasam Bhamedi and Faruk Dhantiya.The five accused, who were arrested by different investigation agencies between 2015-2016, were put on trial at the special court, set up at the Sabarmati Central Jail here.Earlier, on March 1, 2011, the special SIT court had convicted 31 people under the relevant sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC). Out of 31 convicted, 11 people were sentenced to death while 20 were awarded life imprisonment. As many as 63 people had also been acquitted in the case.Around 58 people lost their lives when some coaches of Sabarmati Express were torched at the Godhra Railway Station in Gujarat on February 27, 2002. A 29-year-old salesman was allegedly killed by three persons in Ulhasnagar township in Thane district yesterday, the police said today.
