Police today arrested seven more accused in connection with the alleged rape of a 22-year-old woman from Chandigarh by 40 men for four consecutive days at a guest house in Morni area of Haryana's Panchkula district, officials said today. They said that while accused Sahib Singh, a resident of Panchkula was arrested earlier, six more were nabbed later in the day. They were identified as Sukhwinder Singh, Karan Sharma, alias Kimmi, Manjit Singh, Vikash alias Vicky, Shadi Ram and Ajay Kumar, all residents of Ambala, Naraingarh and Sadhaura in Ambala district, police said, adding that they will be produced in Panchkula court tomorrow. Another person was arrested today in connection with the lynching of a man in Rajasthan's Alwar district, police said. This is the third arrest in the case. Yesterday, two persons were nabbed by police. "Naresh Singh, a resident of Lalawandi village, was arrested today. A bank employee allegedly killed his 25-year old preganant wife, whom he married eight months ago, suspecting her fidelity before ending his own life here, police said today. The body of the 30-year-old man, who worked as an Assistant Manager in a PSU bank, was found on the railway tracks yesterday and his parents-in-laws later found their daughter's body at the couple's house, they said. During investigation, it was found the man had doubts about his wife's fidelity and allegedly harassed her, Police Inspector V Yadagiri Reddy said. The woman, who was seven months pregnant, was found strangulated with a cloth and also smothered to death, the Inspector said based on preliminary investigation. It was suspected that the banker killed his wife before committing suicide by throwing himself before a running train, the police official said adding further probe was on.
A woman who had accused former BJP MLA Jayanti Bhanushali of raping her on several occasions claimed today that he had also forced her to sign a document stating that she did not know him. "I am a student and had an interest in fashion designing. I met (Jayanti) Bhanushali and he said he will get me admission (in a fashion designing course). He called me to Ahmedabad with documents. He then sexually exploited me and blackmailed me," she told reporters today. "(Bhanushali) made my video clip and forced me to sign on a document which said that I did not know him. A country-made pistol with one live cartridge, a stolen motorcycle and 21 mobile phones have been seized from Faizal Ali (19), police said. Deputy Commissioner of Police (south-east district) Chinmoy Biswal said Ali, a school-drop, was arrested on Tuesday. He used to escape on the motorcycle after committing crimes. Ali was previously arrested when he was a juvenile and was sent to an observation home. After his release from the home, he again started committing crimes, the DCP said. The Guwahati Police Crime Branch has arrested a man for allegedly opening 17 fake Facebook accounts of senior police officials, including the DGP and the Commissioner. "In a big breakthrough against cyber crime in the city, the Crime Branch arrested one person late last night from a house. He has admitted to have opened 17 fake FB accounts in the name of senior police officers," an Assam Police spokesperson said today. The arrested person has been identified as Suleiman Ibrahim Ali (30), a resident of the Hatigaon area in the city. A mob attacked policemen and the security personnel of a state-run agency here after the death of a youth at the Sion Hospital which they blamed on "torture by police" and "negligence" of doctors, an official said today. The body of a 35-year-old missing woman was found in a village here, police said today. The victim, identified as Kavita, was missing since yesterday, they said, adding that the body was found at a field in Jasoee village under the Titawi police station area. Police said preliminary investigation suggested that she was strangled to death. The woman had set out to go to the fields yesterday but she never returned. The husband of the deceased is absconding and police are on the lookout to nab him, officials said, adding that an investigation was underway. Justice Madan B Lokur, the chairman of the Supreme Court Juvenile Justice Committee, has said that juvenile convicts cannot be handed down capital punishment in every case pertaining to heinous crimes such as rape and murder. He said judgement in such cases had to be delivered on the basis of evidence. "It is not that for every murder, for every rape, the only penalty is death penalty. I mean, we are not savages in this country," the SC judge said.
