Girl reunited with family after missing for 7 months

A 10-year-old girl, who was abducted from outside her home seven months ago, has been reunited with her father in Rajasthan, police said today. The girl was spotted crying by a local media person on a road in Antah town of Baran district on Friday evening, following which he took the minor to the police station, said Antah police station Station House Officer Ramanand Yadav. The police had yesterday informed the Baran child welfare committee (CWC), where the girl revealed about her abduction from outside her home in the state's Sawai Madhopur city, the SHO said, adding that four people, including two women, have been arrested. According to her father's missing complaint on January 2, the minor went missing on December 23 last year. Revealing her ordeal, the girl said she was abducted by three persons and brought to Antah -- 154 km from her home -- where she was living with a family on the outskirts of the town. Pak court gives life sentence to PML-N candidate, ECP cancels election

A leading PML-N candidate for the July 25 general elections was arrested and sent to Adiala jail after he was convicted by a court and handed down life imprisonment in a six-year old case, in a telling blow to jailed former prime minister Nawaz Sharif. Hanif Abbasi, a senior Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader, was convicted by the Control of Narcotics Substances Court of Rawalpindi and sentenced to life in the case related to misuse of controlled chemical ephedrine. CRPF ASI's body cremated as 'unclaimed' by rly police despite missing report; Family allege negligence

Man kills brother in Moga after fight over mobile SIM card among siblings

A 35-year-old man was killed allegedly by his elder brother after the former beat up their sister for refusing to hand over a mobile SIM card, police said today. Gurjit Singh, a resident of Santowala village in Moga district, was allegedly killed by his elder brother Rajinder Singh last night, they said. Gurjit thrashed his sister Paramjit Kaur who refused to hand over a mobile SIM card to him. When Rajinder objected to it, a fight broke out between the two brothers, the police said. Seeing the matters worsen, their uncle took Gurjit Singh and Paramjit Kaur to his house. Rajinder later went to his uncle's house and allegedly attacked his brother with the handle of a handpump, they said. Gurjit was taken to a nearby hospital from where he was referred to a medical college at Faridkot. There he succumbed to his injuries, the police said, adding a case of murder has been registered against Rajinder, who is absconding.

Jharkhand: Teacher rapes minor student, arrested

Jharkhand police on Sunday arrested a school teacher for allegedly raping a minor student, and later forced her to abort the foetus.The police registered a complaint against the accused under POCSO act following a complaint by the victim.The SHO, Chatra, Ram Awadh Singh, told ANI that he would call for strict action against the accused."FIR was registered on the complaint of the victim and police responded quickly and arrested the accused. 1.12 kg gold paste seized from air passenger in Hyderabad

Gold weighing 1.12 kg worth Rs 34.5 lakh suspected to have been smuggled from Colombo has been seized from a passenger at the international airport here, DRI said today. Acting on tip off, officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) intercepted a passenger who arrived by a flight from Madurai yesterday. Upon examination it was found that the passenger was carrying two packages in his hand luggage containing paste weighing 1850 grams, which had 1,120 grams of gold content, a DRI release said. Investigation revealed that the passenger was entrusted with the job of retrieving the gold paste during the domestic run of the flight. Whereas the said gold paste was smuggled from Sri Lanka and concealed in the aircraft by his associate on its international run from Colombo to Madurai, so as to avoid customs checks at the international airport, it said. A total of 1120.780 grams of gold was extracted from the gold paste, valued at Rs 34.57 lakh and has been seized ..

Heroin worth Rs 5.5 lakh seized in Mizoram

Mizoram Excise and Narcotics department officials today seized 151 grams of heroin at Champhati district and arrested two persons in this connection, a department spokesman said. The spokesman said a woman was arrested for alleged possession of the drugs while a man was arrested for reportedly transporting the drugs. The contraband was worth around Rs 5.5 lakh in the local market, the official said. The accused persons were booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, the spokesman added.

UK police watchdog probes 'serious corruption and malpractice' in Scotland Yard

The UK police's watchdog is investigating allegations of "serious corruption and malpractice" within Scotland Yard's own ranks, the largest police graft inquiry in 40 years. The probe was launched by the UK's Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) after whistleblowers raised concerns that senior officers in the Metropolitan Police's Directorate of Professional Standards (DPS) were interfering with investigations and turning a blind-eye to wrongdoing, The Sunday Times reported. Thane Police to seek details of call centre scam in US

The conviction of 21 Indian-origin persons by a US court in a multimillion-dollar India-based call centre scam is expected to help investigators of a similar racket in the city build a watertight case against the accused, Thane Police officials said today. Thane Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh said, "They (American investigators) have quoted from our case (in the US court). We will seek details (from the FBI). FICN of face value of Rs 11 lakh seized in Malda district

The CID and BSF have seized fake Indian currency note (FICN) of face value of Rs 11 lakh from two separate places in West Bengal's Malda district, police said today. Acting on a tip-off a Criminal Investigation Department (CID) team seized FICN of face value of Rs 7 lakh from the possession of two persons in Baishnabnagar Township of the district last evening. Pak Army asks SC to take action after judge blames ISI for interference

The Pakistan Army today asked the Supreme Court to take action, a day after a high court judge accused the country's powerful ISI spy agency of meddling in the affairs of the judiciary and pressuring the chief justice and other judges to get favourable verdicts. Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui of the Islamabad High Court had alleged that the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) was manipulating judicial proceedings in several cases, including that of ousted premier Nawaz Sharif. 555 gms gold worth about Rs 17 lakh seized at Madurai airport
