A court in Kairana has sentenced a trader to 10 years in jail for supplying adulterated ghee, officials said today. Additional District and Sessions Judge Rajat Verma sentenced the convict, Jamshed, to 10 years of imprisonment and also slapped a fine of Rs 20,000 on him yesterday, they added. According to government lawyer Javed Choudhary, in 2011, the police had seized 35 kg of desi ghee in Shamli district, which was found to be adulterated following a laboratory test. A case was lodged against the convict at the Jhijhana police station in Shamli district on October 27, 2011.
Police have busted an illegal arms manufacturing unit and seized over two dozen country-made pistols and a gun at Husainpur Kala village under the Budhana police station in the district. The operation was carried out last evening, Circle Officer Hariram Yadav said, adding that three men -- Habib, Shoaib and Sharafat -- were arrested in this connection.

A 55-year-old man was shot dead by his two younger brothers, following an altercation over the "love marriage" of his daughter, at Sallah Khedi village under the Titawi police station in the district, police said today. Manoj Kumar (55) was shot dead by his younger brothers -- Bablu Kumar and Subhash -- last night, Circle Officer Kalu Singh told PTI. One of the accused, Bablu Kumar, was also injured in the incident and admitted to a hospital in a serious condition, he said, adding that a case was lodged against the two brothers. According to the police complaint, Bablu Kumar and Subhash opened fire at the deceased, killing him on the spot, following an altercation over the "love marriage" of the latter's daughter. The daughter of the deceased had recently married a man of her choice, against the wishes of her family.
The United States has arrested a Russian woman and charged her with conspiring to act as a Kremlin agent while residing in America without registering as a foreign agent Maria Butina, 29, a Russian citizen residing in Washington DC, was arrested on July 15. She made her initial court appearance yesterday afternoon and was ordered held pending a hearing set for tomorrow. In yet another case of alleged medical negligence a pregnant woman was denied ambulance in Madhya Pradesh's Chhatarpur area.The medical practitioners of the community hospital here allegedly turned away a pregnant woman and referred her to a district hospital.The hospital didn't even provide transportation to the woman in pain. She later gave birth in an unsanitary condition inside a moving bus.Narrating his wife's ordeal, the man said, "I had taken her to a community hospital, from where she was referred to a district hospital. No vehicle was provided by the community hospital so I took a bus to the district hospital. She delivered the baby on way."A similar incident happened in Chhattisgarh's Jashpur area on Tuesday, where a pregnant woman in labour was forced to walk miles due to the absence of proper roads and medical facilities in the region. Federal prosecutors in Washington revealed that they have arrested a 29-year-old woman and accused her of acting as a covert agent inside the US on behalf of a senior Kremlin official. The announcement of the arrest of Maria Butina came just hours after President Donald Trump met with Russian President Vladimir Putin and just days after special counsel Robert Mueller charged 12 Russian intelligence officials with directing a sprawling hacking effort aimed at swaying the 2016 election. The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has arrested an Air India employee with nine gold biscuits here at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport.The arrested accused was trying to smuggle gold for a passenger, who had arrived from Dubai by Spicejet.The probe later revealed that the arrested Air India staff was intercepted inside the washroom of the International Transfer Area.He was arrested under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962.The further investigation is underway.
A 29-year-old Russian woman has been arrested for conspiring to influence US politics by cultivating ties with political groups including the gun rights lobby the National Rifle Association (NRA). Mariia Butina was arrested in Washington on Saturday and appeared in court today, the Justice Department said in a statement. Two men were arrested for allegedly carrying out a series of debit card frauds in different parts of the city, a police official said today. The accused were identified as Sumit Chaudhary and Narender singh alias Monu, residents of Ambedkar Colony in Bijwasan. On May 7, a woman had lodged a complaint against two unknown persons who had duped her of Rs 29,000 on the pretext of helping her. Based on the complaint lodged by the woman, the police registered a case. On May 8, the complainant allegedly committed suicide. The Egyptian parliament today approved in a final reading a bill that would allow authorities to monitor social media users with the aim of combatting "fake news", the legislature said. The bill was backed by two thirds of parliament's 596 members and it will now be sent to President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to be ratified. Under the new law, people whose social media accounts have more than 5,000 followers could be placed under the supervision of Egypt's Supreme Council for Media Regulations. This would encompass websites, blogs and personal accounts. The council would be authorised to suspend or block any personal account which "publishes or broadcasts fake news or anything (information) inciting violating the law, violence or hatred". A six-year-old homeless girl was allegedly raped by a 24-year-old man in central Delhi, a police official said today. On July 14, the minor was allegedly kidnapped by the accused, who is a drug addict, while she was playing near the Kali Mandir, Minto Road. Her family lives on the footpath near the Kali Mandir. The accused also used to stay on the footpath, the official said. After being unable to find the girl, her parents raised an alarm and reported her as missing, he added. At 11.30 pm, she was found lying in a pool of blood and was rushed to a nearby hospital. The minor was grievously injured and was bleeding profusely, according to a statement from the Delhi Commission For Women (DCW). Two people, including a woman, were arrested with 30 kg of cannabis from Om Vihar Phase-1 here, a police official said today. The accused were identified as Pooja and Dilip Kumar Mahto, both aged 27, residents of Uttam Nagar, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Anto Alphonse. A police team intercepted their motorcycle in Uttam Vihar's Om Vihar Phase-1 and arrested them, he said. During interrogation, Pooja revealed that she has been selling cannabis for the last three years. She was also arrested by the local police last year for selling cannabis and remained in jail for a few months. After her release on bail, Pooja employed Mahto who used to assist her in bringing cannabis from other dealers belonging to UP, Haryana and Punjab, the DCP added.

Senior BJP leader Eknath Khadse today claimed in the Legislative Assembly that letters claiming he has amassed disproportionate assets and demanding a probe were issued on the letterhead of his party colleague.
