The ED today conducted multiple searches in Delhi and Haryana in connection with a case of alleged money laundering against aviation consultant Deepak Talwar, an NGO linked to him, and others for allegedly "misutilising" over Rs 90 crore funds taken through the foreign funding route, officials said. They said the agency raided at least nine premises, including those of Talwar, after it registered a criminal case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), based on a CBI FIR of last year. The teams are on spot at these locations in Delhi and Haryana and are looking to gather documents and evidences, they said. A holy cross was found desecrated near a chapel in Raia village in South Goa, police said today. The Christian religious symbol was found crushed to pieces last night and a case was registered against an unidentified person in this connection today, police said. "The complaint about the desecration was lodged by the chapel committee of Raia, after it found that the cross next to St Cajetan Chapel was crushed to pieces," a senior police officer attached to Maina-Curtorim police station stated. Raia village is located around 40 kms from Panaji in South Goa. "Some people noticed the damaged cross and immediately informed the chapel committee," the officer said. A dog squad has been deployed to find clues, he said. Goa had witnessed a number of desecrations of holy crosses in July last year, following which 50-year-old Francis Pereira was arrested from Curchorem village. Police had claimed that the man was involved in desecrating over 150 religious structures over the past 15 .
A 45-year-old worker died due to a fall while running away after a boiler blast at a farm owned by Union minister Nitin Gadkari's family near here, the police said today. The deceased, identified as Pradeep Shriram, and two other workers were processing turmeric in a water boiler at the farm located in Dhapewada village last evening, Kalmeshwar police station in-charge Chandrashekhar Bahadure said. There was a blast in the boiler following which the three workers ran from there, but Shriram fell to the ground and sustained injuries, he said. The worker was rushed to a hospital in Kalmeshwar town where he succumbed to his injuries, he said. A case of accidental death was registered, Bahadure said. He confirmed that the farm was of Gadkari's family. Two people were killed after their motorcycle collided with a Roadways bus on the national highway here, police said. Javed (28) was going with his sister-in-law Hira (20) yesterday when their motorcycle was hit by a speeding bus near Katiyara village under Ramnagar police station area, they said. The injured were rushed to a primary health centre where the doctors declared them brought dead, a police official said. A six year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 65-year-old man in a village under Satrikh police station area here, police said today. The girl was playing outside her house about a week ago when Panni Lal lured her to his house and escaped after raping her, police station incharge Atul Srivastava said. An FIR in this connection was filed after father of the victim registered his complaint yesterday, he said, adding that the girl has been sent to a district hospital for medical examination. Efforts are on to nab the culprit, Srivastava added.

The charter was unveiled yesterday and is expected to come into effect from August after a month-long consultation process with stake-holders. It has proposed that if a passenger dies or suffers injuries on board an aircraft, the "limit of liability to be paid by the airline must be same for both international and domestic passengers".
