Three men were arrested on Tuesday for allegedly gang-raping a 25-year-old woman, belonging to Rewsa in Uttar Pradesh.The woman, along with her son, went to visit the Naimisharanya Dham in Sitapur, when she was gang-raped by three men.She has now been admitted to a district hospital in Sitapur for medical examinations.An FIR has been registered in the Kotwali Police Station against the accused under section 376 D of the Indian Penal Code.According to initial information, the accused, Ramoo, Patru Kashyap and Rameshur Kashyap are the workers in the Dham.An investigation in the case is currently underway.
In a big relief to former cricketer and Punjab Tourism Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu, the Supreme Court on Tuesday acquitted him from culpable homicide charges in a 30-year-old road rage case for which he was awarded three-year jail term.
Four people, including a minor girl, were killed and 10 others seriously injured after a truck hit a small passenger vehicle on the Banda-Tanra road here, police said today. The accident took place yesterday. The deceased were identified as Badri Prasad (65), Ram Moorat (30) and Rajkaran (60). They died on the spot, Additional Superintendent of Police Lal Bharat Kumar Pal said. The officer said that one Jyoti Narayan (17) succumbed to injuries at a hospital here. Ten people suffered serious injuries and are being treated at the hospital, Pal said. Police said the truck driver was arrested, and a case registered. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, they said.
A Taiwanese court today found former president Ma Ying-jeou guilty in a political leaks case, his first conviction in a raft of lawsuits brought against him since he stepped down two years ago. Ma was sentenced to four months in prison for violating the communication security and surveillance act, said the high court, overturning a previous not guilty verdict from a lower court. The former president said today he will appeal the sentence and remains free. Ma was also convicted of breaching the personal data protection act and of "using his presidential power not for executing presidential legal duties", the court added. Under Taiwanese law any sentence under six months can be paid off with a fine. Scientists have developed a novel tool that can accurately predict eye, hair and skin colour from even a small DNA samples left at a crime scene or obtained from archeological remains. The all-in-one pigmentation profile tool provides a physical description of the person in a way that has not previously been possible by generating all three pigment traits together using a freely available webtool. The tool is designed to be used when standard forensic DNA profiling is not helpful because no reference genetic data exists against which to compare the evidence sample. A 16-year-old schoolgirl was allegedly sexually harassed and her mother beaten up by three youths for opposing them at a town here, police said today. The incident took place yesterday when the girl was returning home from school, Station House Officer (SHO) Manoj Choudhary said. The girl's mother lodged a police complaint after her daughter informed her about the incident, the officer said. The SHO said according to the complainant, she was beaten up by the youths when she opposed them. The matter is being investigated, he said.
A 30-year-old woman was killed allegedly by her husband following an argument at Majlispur Tofir village here, police said today. The incident took place yesterday and the accused, Chandan Singh, has been arrested, SHO, Bhopa, V P Singh said. He killed his wife, Puja, with a spade after an argument and dumped her body in a field, the officer said, adding that spade has been recovered. The incident occurred when she had gone to give her husband lunch at his farm land, the SHO said.

A man was shot at allegedly by two men in south Delhi's Malviya Nagar area and personal enmity is thought to be the reason behind the incident, police said today. Yesterday, one Iqbal Qureshi received gunshot injuries and was taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre, where his condition is stated to be stable, they said. He sustained injuries on his left leg, right hand and abdomen. The accused were identified as Rohit and Ashu, the police said. Later, the police nabbed Ashu from Malviya Nagar market. A Pakistani man's eyes were gouged out allegedly by his father and brothers after he insisted on marrying a girl of his choice in Baluchistan province. Police said that the victim, Abdul Baqi wanted to marry a girl but his family was against the marriage because the girl used a cellphone. Detailing his ordeal, Baqi, who has been admitted in a hospital, alleged, "They (father and brothers) locked my mother in another room and tied me up with a rope. Then they gouged my eyes out with a spoon and chopped them to pieces with a knife. He further said, "I liked a girl. My father and brothers were not happy with my choice. They often used to tell me that they will never allow me to marry a girl who keeps chatting on the mobile phone with me." Police have arrested the victim's father and two brothers.

A local court here acquitted Jagtar Singh Hawara in a 1995 arms recovery case, an official said today. The court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Suresh Goyal acquitted Hawara, who had been convicted for conspiring to assassinate former Punjab chief minister Beant Singh, he said. On April 3, Judicial Magistrate First Class Varinder Kumar had convicted him in the arms act case and had referred the case to the court of CJM for quantum of sentence. After hearing the arguments, the court of CJM acquitted Hawara in the case pertaining to the recovery of AK-56 rifle, said defence counsel Jaspal Singh Manjhpur. Hawara is currently lodged in Tihar Jail in Delhi. In 1995, an FIR was registered against Hawara after seizure of an AK-56 rifle.
NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal was today admitted to Lilavati Hospital here, doctors said. They said that he had visited the hospital in the afternoon and got admitted there. Bhujbal (70), who was in jail since March 2016, was granted bail on May 4 by the Bombay High Court after the court took into consideration his old age and deteriorating health. He was admitted to KEM hospital in Parel here after he was released from Arthur Road Jail. Bhujbal was discharged from KEM hospital on May 10.
Five persons were arrested today in connection with the alleged rape and killing of a 15-year-old girl who was missing from her house in the Krishna Nagar area here since December last year, police said. Senior Superintendent of Police Vaibhav Krishna said that on December 27, a missing report was lodged by the parents of the girl at Modinagar police station. On January 12, the minor's body was found in the jungle near Mohiuddinpur area of district Meerut, he added.
