Sandra Bullock stalker found dead after standoff with SWAT standoff

Joshua James Corbett, who was once convicted of stalking actor Sandra Bullock, was found dead at his residence after a five-hour-long standoff with the SWAT. According to NBC Los Angeles, Corbett, who was convicted of breaking into Bullock's house in 2014, died of a self-inflicted injury after he refused to leave his house when police showed up to arrest him. The standoff started after Los Angeles police tried to serve him a warrant at his home. However, he barricaded himself inside a building in the back of the property, resulting in police seeking the help of SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) team. After trying to coax Corbett to get out of the building for 5-hours, the SWAT team went inside only to find the 42-year-old dead of a self-inflicted wound which was not the result of a gunshot. In 2014, Corbett was convicted of breaking into Bullock's West Los Angeles home and was sentenced to five years probation and mental health counseling.

Madras HC reserves order on S Ve Shekher's advance bail plea

The Madras High Court today reserved orders on the anticipatory bail petition filed by actor-politician S Ve Shekher in connection with a case registered against him for sharing a post containing alleged derogatory references to the media and women scribes. Reserving the orders, Justice S Ramathilagam sought to know why the police were biased in taking action, when they have initiated action against mediapersons and arrested them. "Why the different approach in the case of Shekher?" he asked. During the hearing, the counsel for interveners, objecting to the anticipatory bail, argued that the comments posted by Shekher not only degraded any individual woman but all women. In the recent past, both BJP leaders, H Raja and SV Shekher had been making alleged defamatory comments on social media against various political and national leaders and if any leniency was shown, it would create a bad precedent, the counsel said. The petitioner submitted that almost all offences except ...

J Dey killing verdict: Criminals have desire to promote themselves, said judge

"Criminals have a desire to promote themselves," the special MCOCA court here observed while awarding life term to gangster Chhota Rajan and eight others for killing journalist J Dey in 2011. During the sentencing yesterday, there were murmurs in the court among the defence advocates on whether Rajan's extra judicial confession to some mediapersons over phone was adequate to prove that Dey's killing was a result of a conspiracy hatched by him along with the rest of the convicts. In his 599-page judgement, Judge Sameer Adkar explained what might have led Rajan to make the phone calls to some journalists that ultimately led to his conviction. Judge Adkar said Rajan was apparently irked with Dey's writings on his diminishing clout in the underworld. He, therefore, chose to announce to some mediapersons that he had got Dey killed, hoping that it would be perceived as a show of his strength, or a warning to others. "It may be appropriate to answer one question which should arise in the ...
