Gurgaon Police has arrested a manager working with a network of budget hotel rooms for allegedly raping a woman guest at a hotel in Sector-45 here, an officer said today. Police said the incident occurred in Emaar Residency where the 22-year-old woman and her husband were staying for the past month. The accused Raghav works as a demand manager in the hotel. "The victim in her complaint to police said that Raghav told her they would have shift rooms on Sunday. She asked him to wait until her husband returned from work", said a senior police officer. The woman said in her complaint that she was not keeping well and suddenly lost consciousness. "At around 11.45 pm Raghav barged into her room. When she regained her senses, she realised she had been raped. She called Raghav who admitted to his crime when she threatened to approach police", the officer said. A man involved in a relationship with a girl belonging to another religion was allegedly brutally thrashed and killed by the girl's family in Rajasthan's Bikaner city, police said today. As the boy and the girl belonged to different faiths, police is investigating if the killing had a communal angle to it. Police said 22-year-old Saif Ali Khan was abducted by nearly half a dozen people including the father and cousin brothers of the girl on Tuesday night. They beat him badly and threw him in a drain. Police traced the boy and admitted him to a government hospital where he died early yesterday morning, police said. "The boy was involved in a relationship with a girl. The Delhi High Court has denied anticipatory bail to a 62-year-old woman, known as the 'mama' of Sangam Vihar area in Delhi, in a murder case in which the victim's body was covered with salt to conceal its identity. Denying the bail, Justice Anu Malhotra said the weapon used to commit the crime has not been recovered and the woman, Basiran, was required for custodial interrogation by police. "It is apparent that custodial interrogation of the applicant is required and thus the prayer made by the applicant seeking grant of anticipatory bail is declined and all interim protection are withdrawn," Justice Malhotra said. In September last year, the body of the 23-year-old man was found buried under a huge quantity of salt in Sangam Vihar area, according to police. A 55-year-old man was allegedly killed by his son following a quarrel, police said today. The incident occurred last night in outer Delhi's Sultanpuri. A 24-year-old man was stabbed to death by some men following a monetary dispute, police said today. The incident was reported late night yesterday when the police was informed that the man identified as Mohit was lying in southeast Delhi's Dakshinpuri area with stab injuries. Mohit was rushed to a hospital where he was declared brought dead, the police said. On a complaint registered by Mohit's family, two of the accused have been arrested and two are absconding. Mohit's family had alleged that their neighbour Himanshu had called him down to talk to him. A tribal girl allegedly committed suicide in Odisha's Nabarangpur district after a purported video of her intimate moments with a youth was circulated among the people of her village, police said today. The 16-year-old girl had gone missing on Monday evening. Her family members had subsequently found her body hanging from a tree in a forest, near Mundiguda village under the Jharigaon police station. The family members lodged a police complaint yesterday after the villagers told them about the video clip, which might have driven the girl to end her life, the police said. It appeared that the video was shot on a mobile phone in a forest area, they added. The police have sent the body for a post-mortem. In the FIR, the girl's father has named a youth of another village as the accused and alleged that he had circulated the video among the villagers. Three residents of Mundiguda village were detained in this connection, while the youth named in the FIR had gone missing, the police said.

A 15-year-old girl fell from the third floor of a government school building in northwest Delhi's Mahendra Park, police said today. A senior police officer said there was foul play found in the incident, which occurred on April 27. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal met the family members of the girl, a Class 9 student of a government school. Police was also probing whether the girl committed suicide and are speaking to her friends and teachers to ascertain whether she was depressed. So far, they have not found anything to indicate that she was upset over something. She was a good student, her family told police. Police registered a case under Section 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others, punishable with a maximum term of two years and fine) on April 30 in the matter and are probing whether there was any negligence on the part of the school authorities that led to the girl's death.
Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra today inaugurated a creche facility at the Supreme Court premises for the children of working lawyers, court staff as also litigants. The new facility will accommodate a maximum of 30 children of ages ranging from six months to six years and will also provide facilities for children of court staff, lawyers and litigants. The Supreme Court today pulled up authorities for their failure to ensure safety of government officials after a woman officer leading a demolition drive was shot dead in Kasauli town of Himachal Pradesh, even as the accused continued to evade arrest. Taking a serious note of the killing of the officer, who was supervising the demolitions following a court order, a bench of Justices Madan B Lokur and Deepak Gupta termed it a "brazen act" and asked the state government why the police could not stop the alleged assailant from fleeing. The Patna High Court today held that leave encashment of a government employee can be withheld if he or she is facing a criminal case or departmental proceedings at the time of retirement. The high court also held that such an employee would be entitled to provisional pension which would include gratuity to the tune of an amount not less than 90 per cent. A full bench comprising Chief Justice Rajendra and justices Ravi Ranjan and Rajeev Ranjan Prasad passed the judgement on a petition filed by Arvind Kumar Singh challenging the state government's decision to withhold his full gratuity and admissible leave encashment and release of the balance 10 per cent of pension. "We have no hesitation in holding that when an employee is facing a criminal case or a departmental proceeding, at the time of his retirement, the government is well within its power in withholding leave encashment," the bench said in a 34-page judgement. A man was stabbed to death by three car-borne youths when he attempted to save another person in Jammu region's Kathua district, an area already tense after the rape and murder of an eight year-old girl. Liyaqat was stabbed to death when he was attempting to save the life of a person, identified as Abid, from three youths, who were attacking him with sharp-edged weapons, at Dher village in the district last night, police said. "Two to three youths came in a Swift Dezire car. They had planned to attack Abid over some personal rivalry. But Liyaqat intervened to save Abid's life.
