Asaram found guilty of rape, two co-accused convicted
Self-styled godman Asaram was today found guilty of raping a teenager near here five years ago by a Jodhpur court. Judge Madhusudhan Sharma of the court of SC/ST cases also convicted two other accused Shilpi and Sharad while two others Prakash and Shiva were acquitted. Further details are awaited. Security forces arrest militant in Manipur
Security forces have arrested a militant of proscribed outfit United National Liberation Front (UNLF) in Manipur's Bishnupur district, a government press release said. A combined team of Manipur police commandos and Gurkha Regiment arrested the militant from Ninghthoukhong town in Bishnupur district on Sunday, the release said. Asaram's witness killing: Security provided to deceased's family
Security has been provided to the family of Akhil Gupta, a witness in the rape case against Asaram Bapu in Surat, who was shot dead in January 2015, ahead of the godman's verdict in Jodhpur today, police said. "Security has been provided to the wife and father of Gupta," SP (city) Ombir Singh said. He was returning home from his shop on a scooter when the two motorcycle-borne assailant shot at him on Januray 11, 2015. Gupta was a cook and personal aide of Asaram, who is in jail since September 2013 in connection with another case of sexual assault on a minor girl in Jodhpur. Meanwhile, the deceased's father Naresh Gupta said, " I am confident that justice will be given to the victim today in Jodhpur case." Two sisters in Surat had accused Asaram and his son Narayan Sai of raping them. Gupta was a witness in the rape case against Asaram and had recorded his statement before a Gandhinagar court.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday filed a case against Indian Army officials and others in connection with the alleged irregularities in recruitment of religious teachers in the Army.As many as 17 people have been found involved in the case.An FIR was registered in Hyderabad yesterday by Major General N Srinivas Rao with the suspected offence being criminal misconduct by public servants, acts done by several persons in furtherance of a criminal conspiracy, cheating and dishonesty inducing delivery of property.The written complaint reveals that a recruitment of religious teachers was conducted at Artillery Centre, Hyderabad by the order of the Recruiting Directorate in July 2013. The teachers were inducted for spiritual activities in the unit to deliver spiritual motivation to the troops.The main accused who is presently posted with 32 field regiment is the mastermind behind the entire racket for luring candidates, accepting the bribe and influencing the selection .

1394kg cannabis worth seized in Vijayawada
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 1,394 kilograms of cannabis worth Rs 2,09,14,800 here on Tuesday.Based on specific intelligence that prohibited narcotic drugs were being illegally transported, officers from the DRI Vijayawada launched an operation and intercepted a TATA cargo vehicle on Monday at the junction of the NH-16 service road and LEPL ICON, Near Benz Circle, Vijayawada.After examining the vehicle, officers recovered about 1,394 kgs of Cannabis (also known as Ganja), a narcotic drug under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. The said drug was found concealed under a six-tonne load of Casuarina wood logs. Officers also found 647 packets of ganja packed in gunny bags and placed on the floor in the rear end of the load.As per the Additional Director General, the substance was loaded into the vehicle at Sarabavaram village near Narsipatnam and was being sent to Zaheerabad in Telangana.Along with the drug, the DRI officers also seized the ..
