A northern Michigan woman has been sentenced up to 22 years in prison for suffocating her infant daughter, her second criminal case in the death of a child. The Petoskey News-Review reports 32-year-old Lisa Rae Bryan learned her punishment on Tuesday in Emmet County Circuit Court. Bryan last month pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter. She was charged with second-degree murder in the 2016 death of her daughter, Isabella. Bryan admitted that she was sleeping with Isabella close to her chest when the child died just weeks after birth. In 2010, another infant died in Tulsa, Oklahoma, while Bryan was taking a bath with her. She served slightly more than a year in prison for second-degree manslaughter.

Shyam Narayan had bought an old fridge and when he plugged it, he was electrocuted, they added. He was a resident of Lodhi Colony and after post-mortem his body was handed over to his family.

A man today shot dead his younger brother allegedly over a land dispute in Sultanpur village, police said. Senior superintendent of police Vaibhav Krishna told that Pradeep Kumar (28) was shot dead by his elder brother Kuldeep. Both the brothers had an altercation on the issue and Kuldeep fired upon him, following which he died on the spot and Kuldeep fled, he said. On receiving information from locals, police officials rushed to the spot and took the body in its custody. The body has been sent for autopsy, he said. Police have launched a manhunt to nab Kuldeep, the SSP added. This is the second case which took place in 24 hours in the Murad nagar area. Last night, four unidentified persons reached the residence of realtor Sunder Tyagi and took him to the place where he used sell plots on the pretext of purchasing a land of 200 meters and allegedly fired upon him. A 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her stepfather for the past two years in south east Delhi's Jaitpur area, police said today. The 38-year-old accused, a painter by profession, was arrested, they added. On April 20, the police were informed that a girl was raped by her step-father for the past two years, they added. The girl was sick and her mother had brought her to a government dispensary for treatment. The dispensary informed the Delhi Child Protection Unit (DCPU) for further action, police said. Subsequently, a case was registered and the accused was arrested on April 22. He was allegedly sexually abusing the girl and was threatening her to not reveal about the incident to anyone.

A 22-year-old man was today arrested for allegedly raping a minor girl in February in Zuarinagar, about 40 kilometres from here, police said. Verna police officials said that Nurjul Islam was arrested for raping a 14-year-old in February after the victim's mother filed a complaint today. "The girl's mother filed a complaint today stating that the victim got pregnant after being raped by the accused. A case has been registered against him under relevant sections of the IPC, the Goa Children's Act and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO). A minor girl was allegedly raped by a 40-year-old man in Ramgarh district, police said today. The incident happened under the jurisdiction of Kuju police station yesterday, the police said. The victim's father lodged a complaint alleging that the accused raped his 5-year-old daughter when she was alone at home, a police officer said. The victim's neighbours caught the accused after they heard her screams, thrashed him and handed him over to the police, he said. A 38-year-old woman was today arrested for allegedly pushing a man onto the tracks at Mulund station, resulting in the man getting run over by a train, railway police said. "Manisha Khakadiya was identified from CCTV images at the station and was placed under arrest. She has told police that the deceased, Deepak Patwa, touched her on the overbridge at the station," a Kurla railway police official said. He added that the accused had told police that she followed the man to the platform to pull him up for his behaviour. "She has said that an argument broke out between her and Patwa and he fell off the platform in the melee," the official said. Police today seized fake notes with face value of Rs 6.17 lakh from a car in Golpangri near here and arrested a 23-year-old man. On a tip-off, police intercepted the car and found the counterfeit currencies of Rs 100 denomination from a bag, said district superintendent of police, Ramnath Pokale. Police arrested one Shaikh Sameer Shaikh Munna (23) from the car and are investigating further. According to the officer, the notes were meant to be circulated in Jalna city. A court here today convicted five people and sentenced them to life imprisonment for abducting and murdering a 22-year-old woman, a lawyer said. Additional District Sessions Judge Rajesh Bhardwaj also imposed a fine of Rs 8,500 each on the convicts after holding them guilty, he said. According to government lawyer Yogesh Sharma, the woman was abducted and strangulated. Her body was found dumped in sugarcane fields in a village in Budhana Police Station area in June 2014. The police registered a case against five people in this connection, he said. In another case, the court convicted three people for murdering a 25-year-old man and sentenced them to life imprisonment. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 6,000 each on the accused. The Madras High Court today set aside the order of a single judge who directed the Puducherry government to pay charges treating it as a HT Consumer of Tamil Nadu Electricity Board. "The Regulatory Commission recognised the transaction between Puducherry and the TNEB as an inter-state sale of energy. In view of the said finding, Puducherry cannot be termed as a HT Consumer, liable to pay the energy charges at Rs 3/per kWh," said a division bench of Justice K K Sasidharan and Justice P Velmurugan. The bench, which partly upheld the regulatory commission order that Puducherry cannot be considered as a HT consumer of the TNEB for fixation of tariff, set aside the part referring to maintaining status quo. The bench said the regulatory commission exceeded its brief by directing the parties to maintain status quo even after declaring that Puducherry is not a HT Consumer.
