Woman police aspirant dies during practice run

A 20-year-old woman preparing for police recruitment, died of a cardiac arrest during a practice run in Sangli in Western Maharashtra, police said today. The incident occurred at Balvant College in Vita in Sangli district yesterday evening, they said. "The victim, Komal Dattatray Pawar, collapsed while running on the ground and died on the spot," a police official said. Her relative Satish Pawar (50), who was with her during the practice time, informed the police and took her to a nearby hospital, where she was declared brought dead, he said. Police have registered a case of accidental death in this connection, he added.

Kathua case: Mufti writes to JK HC chief justice for setting up fast track court

Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has written to the chief justice of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court, requesting setting up of a special fast track court to try the brutal rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in Kathua. The chief minister requested the chief justice for establishment of the special fast track court for the case, official sources said. It would complete trial in 90 days and would be the first such court in state, they said. The state government has also decided to terminate from service the cops accused in the case, they added.

Mehbooba to ask for fast track court in Kathua rape

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti will request state High Court Chief Justice Justice Ramalingam Sudhakar for the establishment of special fast track court for Kathua Rape case, said sources on Saturday.This special fast track court which would be the first in the state is expected to complete the trial in ninety days.The nation has been on the boil over Kathua gang rape where an eight-year-old girl was allegedly abducted, drugged, raped, tortured and killed in January.Earlier, Mufti had expressed her anger over the incident while saying that the state government will bring a new law to make the death penalty mandatory for those who rape minors.She also called for exemplary punishment for those responsible for the crime.

Foreign Consulate officer molested in Kolkata Kolkata

A senior official of a foreign Consulate office here was allegedly molested by a man in its vicinity, police said today. The middle-aged woman complained to the Shakespeare Sarani police station that she was molested by a man while she was walking on the street on Wednesday, Joint Commissioner (crime) Praveen Tripathi said. Acting on the woman's complaint, police ran a check of the CCTV footage and the man was identified as Rohit Agarwal, a third year commerce student of a college in south Kolkata. He was arrested on Thursday and is currently in judicial custody, Tripathi said.

Woman raped by 3 men in UP

A 23-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a man along with his two associates when she had gone to field at Brala village in Shamli district, police said today. Police registered a case against three people, who are absconding, Station house officer Bhagwat Singh. According to a complaint lodged by the victim's husband, he alleged that his wife had gone to bring grass from the field when the accused, along with his two associates, raped her. They also threatened her with dire consequences if she opened the matter to any one, he alleged. The victim has been sent for medical examination, police said.

Dalit woman commits suicide after being harassed in UP

A Dalit woman committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling of her house after allegedly being sexually harassed by two men at Raipur village in the district, police said today. The woman, who worked as a labourer in a brick klin, was allegedly sexually harassed and her complaint was not filed by the police when she had gone with her husband to Phugana police station, they said. Police sub inspector Subhash Chand has been suspended in connection with the incident, police said. A suicide note was recovered from the spot in which she has alleged sexual harassment by two men, police said. Two cases, one abatement of suicide and one sexual harassment were registered against two persons, who were arrested in this connection, they said.

Road accident: 45-yr-old man's kin get Rs 14.72 L compensation

The family members of a 45-year-old man, who died after being hit by a car, have been awarded a compensation of over Rs 14 lakh by a Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) here. MACT Presiding Officer Amit Bansal directed Tata AIG General Insurance Company Ltd, insurer of the offending car that hit the motorcycle of the victim, killing him on the spot in 2014, to pay Rs 14.72 lakh to his mother and three children. The tribunal decided the petition in favour of the victim's family after relying on the testimony of an eyewitness and documents produced on record, including a copy of the FIR, postmortem report and mechanical inspection report of the vehicle. According to the petition, which claimed Rs 50 lakh for the death of victim Mahaveer, who was a driver by profession, the victim was on a bike with another man when he was hit by a car near Farruk Nagar in north-west Delhi. Terming as "horrific" the rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district, UN chief Antonio Guterres has expressed hope that the authorities will bring perpetrators of the brutal crime to justice. The girl from the nomadic Bakerwal Muslim community disappeared near her house on January 10 and a week later, her body was found in the same area. She was allegedly raped by six men who had held her in captivity in a village temple for a week in January. The victim was drugged, rapped repeatedly before being bludgeoned to death. Mentally-ill girl missing for 3 days found dead in Jammu

A mentally-ill teenage girl, who went missing from her house, was found dead in the outskirts of Jammu district, police said today. On April 10, a man lodged a missing report in police post Chowki Choura that his daughter has gone missing since April 9, a police official said. A missing report was lodged in this regard and search for the girl was initiated in and around the surrounding areas, he said. An information was received that the body of the girl was found floating in a small seasonal 'nallah' (locally known as Dabbar), located at a distance of 70 meter from her house yesterday, he said. The post-mortem of the deceased was conducted by a board of doctors in the presence of the executive magistrate, the official said. The cause of the death is yet to be ascertained, he said, adding that an inquest proceeding under Section 174 CrPC stands initiated at police post Chowki Choura for enquiry.

Cops shoot dead lone attacker in German bakery

The German state police on Friday shot dead a man accused of randomly attacking a group of workers outside a German bakery at Fulda.According to reports, the police, in a statement said that they responded to a distress call made at around 4:30 am (local time) informing of a man launching random attacks on the people assembled near the Frankfurt Street.After the police arrived at the location, they found that the man was attacking other people with stones and a sort of truncheon.Following that the police shot dead the man. They refused to disclose the identity of the deceased.Reportedly, the bakery was closed at the time of the incident and the victims were largely the employees and a delivery driver of the bakery.Some of the people were seriously injured in the incident and had to be admitted to a nearby hospital.Further investigation is underway to ascertain the motive of the attacker.

Sessions court judge booked on graft charge in Hyderabad
