Angry over his second marriage, a woman allegedly hit her sleeping husband with a grinding stone killing him on the spot, police said today. The incident took place here yesterday night, they said. The deceased was identified as 52-year-old Waseem. "Babli came to know almost four days back that her husband Waseem had secretly solemnised a court marriage with a 35-year-old woman of the locality around ten days ago. This had led to heated arguments between Babli and Waseem. Later, she killed her husband. The woman has been arrested," Senior Superintendent of Police Rohit Singh Sajwan said. The police official said that after Waseem's death, the woman informed her brothers-in-law and even started preparation for the last rites. However, someone informed the police. A Gurgaon court today took cognisance of the CBI charge sheet filed against a 16-year-old student in the case of murder of a seven-year-old boy at a private school at Bhondsi here. The CBI has alleged that the teenager had murdered the student in September last year in a bid to postpone exams and cancel a scheduled parent-teacher meeting. The Supreme Court on Monday granted four weeks time to former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh for filing a reply on the Central Bureau of Investigation's (CBI) plea seeking clarification to the nature of sanction needed from a state government for conducting any inquiry or investigation into an offence in the state.In a January 4 hearing, the top court issued a notice to Singh and sought reply on CBI's plea in four weeks.A two-judge bench, comprising justices R.K. Britain's Serious Fraud Office today charged a unit of Barclays over alleged fraud linked to emergency fundraising from Qatar during the financial crisis a decade ago, the bank said. The announcement follows a decision by the SFO in June last year to charge Barclays PLC, or the unit's parent group, over the same alleged offence. "The SFO has today charged Barclays Bank PLC with the same offence in respect of the loan as charged against Barclays PLC on 20 June 2017," a statement from the bank said today. Barclays PLC and four of its former bosses will face trial in 2019 on allegations over the Qatari fundraising, it had already been announced. A 13-year-old girl was allegedly set on fire by a boy when she resisted his attempt to sexually assault her, a police official said today. The girl was admitted to the district hospital and her condition was reported to be serious, he said. She was alone at her house in Sustani village on Saturday as her family members had gone for work at an agricultural field. Taking advantage of the situation, the boy forcibly entered her house and allegedly tried to sexually assault her, Khujner police station in-charge Indraraj Singh said. However, when the girl resisted his move, the boy poured kerosene over her and set her on fire, he said. The Supreme Court today restrained the Jammu and Kashmir Police from taking any "coercive steps" against Army officers including Major Aditya Kumar, who have been made an accused in the Shopian firing case in which three civilians were killed. A bench comprising Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud also asked the counsel for Lieutenant Colonel Karamveer Singh, the father of Major Aditya Kumar, to share the copies of his petition with the office of Attorney General K K Venugopal and the Jammu and Kashmir government. Besides seeking Venugopal's assistance in dealing with the matter, the bench asked the state government to file its response to the plea within two weeks. A Thane court has sentenced two men to four years' rigorous imprisonment for molesting two minor girls residing in their neighbourhood. Additional Sessions Judge Sangita C Khalipe awarded the punishment to Shyam Hitendra Chavan (36), an auto-rickshaw driver, and Pradeep Gaikwad (28), a labourer. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 each on them. According to the prosecution, the two girls, aged 9 and 5, were playing near their respective houses at Sathe Nagar in Wagle Estate area of the city on April 7 last year. The accused, with whom the girls were familiar as they lived in the same area, arrived there in an auto-rickshaw, picked up the victims and took them to an isolated location where they molested them. The accused later dropped the girls back at their homes, the prosecution said. Later, the minors informed about the incident to their parents, who lodged a complaint with the local police following which the two accused were arrested. They were booked under IPC .

The 60-year-old man on wheelchair was intercepted by Customs officials and recovered eight gold bars weighing 5.35 kg from him last night. The men were working at godowns in Bhiwandi where the handsets sourced from various mobile phone manufacturers are packed and sent to the online retailer firm which in turn delivers them to public, a Narpoli police station official said tonight. The five accused allegedly stole 267 high-end mobile phones valued at Rs 24.43 lakh during October 2017 to January 2018, he said.
