A 58-year-old police inspector allegedly committed suicide after having a quarrel with his wife in Maharashtra's Dhule district in the wee hours today, an official said. Rameshsingh Pardeshi, who was posted at the Crime Branch in Dhule, located about 380 kms from here, shot himself in the head with his service revolver in front of his wife at their residence in Dhule city around 12.30 am, Superintendent of Police M Ramkumar said. Pardeshi had some disagreements with his wife following which the couple had a fight late last night. During the heated argument, the inspector shot himself in the head and collapsed, he said. On hearing the screams of his wife, some police personnel living in the neighbourhood rushed to Pardeshi's residence and took him to hospital where he was declared dead before admission, another official said. British police today made a sixth arrest in connection with the kidnapping and murder of Indian-origin jeweller Ramniklal Jogiya, who was found dead in Leicester last week. Three men, including an Uber driver, have been arrested for allegedly abducting and robbing a passenger, police said today. "Rehan Khan (23) is an Uber driver. The two other accused, Ranjan Singh (21) and Ravi Shankar Sharma (18), work at an apparel firm in Noida," said Chinmoy Biswal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast). The incident occurred on January 19. Kaushal Kumar Sharma, an accountant at an event production company in Jonapur, told police the three men offered him a ride in their car and later robbed him at knifepoint. He said he was waiting for an auto-rickshaw at Okhla Phase-1 when the cab pulled up to him. The accountant accepted the offer for ride. He alleged the trio then robbed him of his laptop, mobile, ATM card and Rs 4,500 at knifepoint and took him towards Malviya Nagar, police said. They also tried to withdraw cash using his ATM card. Over a dozen armed criminals forcefully entered the Bhondsi jail here early today in a bid to kill the superintendent of police over the latter's cracking down on criminal activities in the area, police said. The incident took place at around 2.30 am when the accused, including a woman, came in three vehicles and tried to enter the jail's inner campus on the pretext of an urgent meet with Jai Kishan Chillar, the superintendent of police (prison). The trial was conducted in an open court for the first time after the Bombay High Court set aside the CBI judge's November 29 order which had restrained the media from reporting the proceedings. The Madras High Court today said the rules framed by special committee of Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, prescribing 10 years of practice as minimum eligibility to contest in the council elections, might not be wrong. The first bench comprising Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice Abdul Quddhose made the observation while hearing a plea moved by advocates G Murugendran and Selvakumar, assailing the rules. The issue to be decided is whether the special committee has powers to frame such rules, the bench said and adjourned the hearing of the PIL for tomorrow. The Tamil Nadu government today informed the Madras High Court that 157 cases of custodial deaths were reported in the southern state from 2012 to 2016, of which 134 cases were concluded based on judicial magistrate reports. An inquiry in another 23 is yet to be concluded, the government said. Principal secretary to the home department made the submissions on a suo motu plea initiated by the court in view of a Supreme Court directive. The object of the suo motu proceeding is to identify the next of kin of deceased prisoners, whose deaths from 2012 to 2015 was classified as "unnatural" by the National Crime Records Bureau, for award of suitable compensation. The body of a 30-year-old man with an injury to his right temple was found in Dwarka in the early hours of today, police said. No arrests have been made till now and the motive is also not clear. The deceased was later identified as Subhash Mishra, a resident of Bijwasan, they said. His body had an injury below the right temple, suspected to be a result of a gunshot. A man wanted by the Chhattisgarh police for allegedly duping investors to the tune of crores of rupees has been arrested in Thane city, Maharashtra. The Chhattisgarh police had registered a case under the Prize Chits and Money Circulation Schemes (Banning) Act against Priti Paul Ramsingh Sethi (63) at Tumgaon in Mahasamund district in December 2015. Sethi had set up an investment company in Tumgaon and duped several investors by promising them high returns on deposits, said senior police inspector, Thane crime branch, Nitin Thakre. He had set up such companies in Assam, Tripura, Odisha, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand too, the police officer said.
