Two professors of a private college have been booked for allegedly molesting a woman colleague here, police said today. The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) had written to the Bilaspur police to take appropriate action in the case, Superintendent of Police Shalabh Sinha said. He said a case was registered last night at the Kotwali police station against Subir Sen and Durga Sharan Chandra. Sen is a professor of commerce and Chandra is a professor of physics at DP Vipra College in the district. Sinha said the victim, the widow of an Army personnel, had complained to the Sainik Kalyan Board that the accused had molested her and passed lewd remarks at her. The victim, in her complaint, alleged the accused were pressuring her into having an intimate relationship with them but she had refused. The Anti-Narcotics Cell of the Mumbai Police today arrested a foreign national for allegedly supplying drugs including cocaine to clients in the Lokhandwala area of Andheri. Police said that Ajah Osi Andrew, 41, a Nigerian national, was nabbed by the Bandra unit of the ANC when he had come to sell narcotics to some high-profile persons in the area. "We have arrested Andrew on the information of a drug deal yesterday. He is one of the main suppliers of cocaine in the Lokhandwala area. We have recovered 118 grams of cocaine, worth Rs 6 lakhs, from him," Shivdeep Lande, Deputy Commissioner of Police (ANC) told PTI. Deprecating rising sex crimes against women and girl child, the Madras High Court has asked the central and Tamil Nadu governments to explore the possibility of providing gadgets to women to prevent sexual violence against them. Noting that crimes against women and girl child were shockingly rising every year, especially sex crimes, Justice N Kirubakaran batted for urgent measures to stop such heinous offences and asked the governments to explore giving gadgets to women. A man was robbed of his motorcycle at gunpoint near Okhla Bird Sanctuary in Noida, police said today. R Dogra, a resident of Sector 78, in his complaint to the police said two armed men robbed his motorbike at gunpoint last night near the bird sanctuary. A woman has alleged that she was raped by two men in Sector 63 in Noida, police said today. The woman, a resident of Mamura area, alleged that Aakash and Anil forcibly took her to an office property in Sector 63 on a motorbike last night, and there they raped her. Aakash has been arrested and police officials were looking out for Anil, who has been absconding since the incident, the police said. A medical examination of the woman was being conducted. In another incident, a 10-year-old girl was allegedly molested by a man, identified as Sandeep, in Sector 49. A police outpost in- charge has been removed from post for alleged negligence after an 18-year-old girl was hacked to death by a jilted lover in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district, police said today. The Class 12 girl was killed with a sickle at Ghar Shayam village in Kandhla police station area of Shamli on Wednesday when she was returning home from college. Police outpost in-charge Kailash Chand was removed last evening for negligence of duty, Kandhla police station SHO O P Choudhary said. Yesterday, family members of the girl staged a protest. The family members of a college student, who committed suicide after allegedly being molested by three youths, have staged a demonstration here, claiming police laxity in the case. The 21-year-old student had hanged herself to death at her home in Badausa town on Thursday and booked the trio for molestation and abetting suicide, officials said. A five-year-old girl was allegedly raped by an 18-year-old man here, the police said today. The incident took place yesterday within the Lonikatra police station limits, they added. "A neighbour of the five-year-old girl, identified as Mohit (18), on the pretext of dropping her home, took her to a nearby field on his motorcycle and sexually assaulted her. He then dropped the girl at her place, before fleeing," Lonikatra police station in-charge B P Yadav said. The girl narrated her ordeal to her mother, Yadav said, adding that on the basis of a complaint from the girl's father, a case under section 376, IPC (rape) and the relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act was registered against the accused. The girl was sent to a primary health centre for treatment and efforts were on to nab the accused, whose mobile phone location had been traced to Madhya Pradesh, the police said.

The Delhi High Court has sought response of the municipal corporation of north Delhi on a PIL alleging that its officials were "colluding and conniving" with private builders by permitting illegal constructions. A bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar made the oral observation during hearing of a PIL highlighting a "huge gap" in the existing and sanctioned strength of officers in the enforcement cadre of the transport department in the Delhi government. Taking a lenient view towards a man guilty of drink-driving, a Delhi court has set aside the jail term awarded to him saying he deserved an opportunity to reform himself. Special judge Narinder Kumar quashed the sentence of the man, a north Delhi resident, and released him on probation of good conduct for a period of one year on a bond of Rs 10,000 and a surety of the like amount, considering that he was a first time offender. The court order came on an appeal filed by the convict challenging a November 20 order of a magisterial court sentencing him to seven-day rigorous imprisonment for driving his car in an inebriated state. A man and his family members have been arrested here for allegedly killed his wife and then dumping her body in Uttarakhand's Mussoorie, the police said today. The man had lodged a missing complaint with the police but was subsequently arrested after the woman's parents expressed suspicion about him, they said. The incident was reported from northwest Delhi's Rani Bagh. Silky Arora's husband Lalit killed her earlier this month, police said. Lalit was allegedly helped by his brother and his wife, her brother and his father. They took her body and threw it in a valley in Mussoorie, they said. On December 11, Lalit approached police and alleged that his wife had gone missing. Police contacted the woman's family who expressed suspicion that their son-in-law might have something to do with her disappearance. Lalit was then questioned and subsequently confessed to killing his wife and dumping her body, the police said. The couple had regular fights and Lalit was upset over it.

The Indore bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court today stayed the proceedings in the Congress MLA Makhanlal Jatav murder case at a court in Bhind. State minister Lal Singh Arya is one of the accused in the case and the Bhind court had issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against him. Justice Ved Prakash Sharma of the high court today stayed the proceedings in the Bhind court. The CBI had challenged, before the high court, an Indore CBI court's order to transfer the case to a special court in Bhind on the basis of jurisdiction. The case was transferred to the CBI in 2009, but in the meantime, Bhind district police had filed a charge sheet in the matter in the local court. An FIR was lodged against a gram pradhan and a village development officer (VDO) here for allegedly misusing government funds, officials said today. Block Development Officer (Jamo) Chandra Prakash Upadhyay, acting on the directives of District Magistrate Yogesh Kumar, lodged the FIR at Jamo police station against Udai Pratap Singh, gram pradhan of Ahad village, and Village Development Officer Om Prakash over alleged misuse of MGNREGS (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme) funds, reports said. The Supreme Court today refrained from making any commitment on who would succeed Justice Swatanter Kumar as the National Green Tribunal Chairperson after his tenure ends on December 19. A plea was raised before a bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra that on the lines of National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) and the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), the tenure of retiring Chairperson of the NGT be also extended. The top court, on December 11, ordered that the retiring judicial and non-judicial members of NCDRC and CAT shall continue in their respective offices till April 15 after Attorney General K K Venugopal agreed to the suggestion mooted by the bench.
