A 38-year-old woman was stabbed allegedly by a known person outside her beauty parlour following a quarrel in K N Katju Marg area in Delhi's Rohini district, the police said Tuesday. The incident took place on Sunday evening, they said. The woman was standing outside her beauty parlour when the accused attacked her with a knife after an argument broke out between them over some issue, a senior police officer said. Police visited the spot after they were informed about it. The woman was then taken to a nearby hospital where she is being treated for her injuries, he said. She suffered injuries in the chest and stomach, the officer said, adding that the victim is out of danger. The woman has not recorded her statement with police yet as she was under treatment, the officer said. Police said the motive behind the incident will be clear once the victim records her statement. The 28-year-old accused is absconding since the day of incident. Further investigation is underway, police said.

A Delhi court Tuesday awarded death penalty to convict Yashpal Singh and ordered life imprisonment to another, Naresh Sherawat, for killing of two men during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots that followed assassination of the then prime minister Indira Gandhi leaving nearly 3,000 people dead. In the first verdict after the riots-related cases were reopened by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) in 2015, the court held that Singh's offence fell under the "rarest of rare" category warranting the death penalty. The Delhi Police had closed this case in 1994 for want of evidence. The SIT is investigating nearly 60 cases related to the riots, while it has filed "untraced report" in 52 cases. The court also imposed fine of Rs 35 lakh each on both the convicts and directed payment of the fine amount as compensation to surviving family members of deceased Hardev Singh and Avtar Singh. Four Maoists have been arrested along with arms and ammunition in Dumka district, a senior police officer said Tuesday. Superintendent of Police, Kishore Kaushal told reporters here that the four Maoists identified as Babujan Hembram (23), Govind Hembram (20), Baburam Tudu (22) and Nelson Hembram (35) were arrested Monday from Saldaha village. Kaushal said the police got a tip-off during a long range patrolling by SSB and the district police personnel that three Maoists of the squad of Maoist leader Tala alias Sahadev Rai alias Agni were sent to the house of Babujan Hembram to bring stored explosives and bullets. The security forces surrounded Babujan Hembrams house on November 19 and arrested all the four, including Babujan, the SP said. A total 566 bullets - 430 of INSAS rifles and 136 of AK-47 - 10 electronic gelatine, 11 detonators and a laptop were seized from their possession, the SP said.

Three persons were detained at the Jaipur International Airport on Tuesday with more than 1.4 kg unaccounted gold, a customs official said. Ghanshyam Soni, Mikesh Kumar and Nirav Hasmukh Lal, all residents of Gujarat, had alighted at the Jaipur airport from Dubai from a SpiceJet flight, Customs Commissioner S C Agarwal told PTI. He said more than 1.4 kg unaccounted gold was seized from the detained accused. The gold has been seized and the accused are being interrogated, Agarwal added.

A 25-year-old man has been arrested from Panipat here in connection with recent highway robberies, police said Tuesday. The arrested, identified as Ravinder Kumar, is a resident of Nurwala village in Panipat district. Kumar was part of a four-member gang, who are accused of a number of robberies in the region, targeting lonesome motorists, police said, adding that the remaining members of the gang have been identified and they would soon be arrested. A man was charred to death as the car he was driving caught fire in Himachal Pradesh's Sirmaur district in the early hours Tuesday, the police said. The car on its way to Dehradun from Chandigarh side caught fire after hitting a parapet on the roadside at Judda Ka Johar near Nahan of Sirmaur district, Sirmaur Additional Superintendent of Police Virender Singh Thakur said. The fire engulfed the car and the driver could not come out of the vehicle, Thakur said, adding that the deceased was the lone occupant of the car. Thakur said the driver failed to negotiate a curve near Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, at Judda Ka Johar and his car rammed into a parapet.
