At least six people were killed and 10 others injured in an explosion near an ordnance depot in Maharashtra's Wardha district on Tuesday morning, officials said. The explosion took place around 7 am while ammunition was being unloaded for disposal, a Defence official said. Around 10 to 15 contract labourers were at the site when the incident occurred, Wardha's Additional Superintendent of Police Nikhil Pingle said. "The blast occurred in one of the ammunition boxes while unloading the ammunition. The incident took place in an open land," he said. An argument in a hospital parking lot escalated into a shooting that killed three people, including a police officer, in the US city of Chicago on Monday. The Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) passed an order in favour of Sushmita Sen, ruling the Rs 95 lakh that the actor received from beverages maker Coca Cola for settling a sexual harassment complaint would not be classified as an 'income'. According to a November 14 order, the tribunal accepted the actor's contention that the sum is a "capital gain" and not an income which attracts tax. It also did away with a penalty of Rs 31.35 lakh that was slapped on her for concealment of this "income". The case pertains to a Rs 1.50 crore contract between Coca Cola and Sen which was ended prematurely in 2003. The former Miss Universe had received a sum of Rs 1.45 crore from Coca Cola as the final settlement. Sohrabuddin Sheikh was killed in an alleged fake encounter in 2005 with the "dual motive of political and monetary gains", the chief investigating officer (CIO) in the case told a special court here Monday. CIO Amitabh Thakur also told the court that he had not found any material evidence to show who the political beneficiaries were. The Madras High Court Monday disposed of a Tamil Nadu government's plea seeking quashing of the Centre's groundwater quality report that declined to pin the blame only on Sterlite's copper unit, now closed, for pollution, saying that the state may challenge it as per law. Police have arrested six students from a prestigious private all-boys Catholic school in Toronto and charged them with sexual assault related to a video that was posted on the internet. Toronto Police Inspector Dominic Sinopoli said Monday the students from St. Michael's College been charged with assault, gang sexual assault and sexual assault with a weapon. Sinopoli says police first became aware of the assault and video through the media and he says the school failed to notify police immediately. Nine persons, including a juvenile, were held for allegedly killing a 57-year-old doctor in Northwest Delhi's Jahangirpuri area, police said Monday. The accused were identified as Rizwan alias Rizu, Vishal Rawat alias Bunty, Sandhya Rawat, Raju Rawat, Afroz, residents of Bhalswa Dairy, Rizwan alias Nasty, Ammar, Riyasat and a juvenile compounder, residents of Jahangirpuri, they added. A former district incharge of a Hindi daily apparently shot himself to death in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district on Monday, police said. Vijay Singhal, 48, committed suicide using his licensed revolver in his house, Circle Officer Ashok Kumar told PTI. The cause behind the step has not been identified yet, Kumar said, adding that the body had been sent for post-mortem. In another incident, an unidentified man is suspected to have been stoned to death in Shamli, the officer said. The body has injury marks and a bloodstained brick was found near it, he said, adding that an investigation was on.
