Three suspected members of the 'Zahar-Khurani Gang', including its leader, have been arrested for allegedly drugging and looting people travelling on autorickshaws in the national capital, police said on Monday. The accused, Kasir Alam (27), Mohammad Abbas (34) and Kurban (22), all natives of Bihar's Kishanganj district, were arrested from Dwarka by the Delhi Police's Crime Branch on November 9. According to the police, the accused have confessed to their crimes. They had also managed to drug armed forces personnel, the police said, adding the accused usually targeted passengers who travelled alone with a lot of luggage. On November 9, police received a tip off that some members of the gang would come near IP University, Dwarka, on a scooter to dispose some stolen articles, Additional Commissioner of Police A K Singla said. A woman security guard at a hostel attached to a nursing college was Monday stabbed multiple times in the neck in Maharashtra's Thane district, police said. Babita Dubey (40) suffered grievous injuries and is being shifted to state-run JJ Hospital in neighbouring Mumbai from the Thane Civil Hospital here, a senior police official said. A 50-year-old woman Monday died after allegedly jumping off the fifth floor of a building in south Mumbai's Colaba area, police said. The incident took place around 11.00 am at L- Block building in the Railway Officer's Colony at Badhwar Park, police said. Neeta Agarwal, who was found in a pool of blood, was rushed to Jagjivan Ram Hospital in Mumbai Central where doctors declared her dead on arrival, an official said. The deceased is the wife of Western Railway's Chief Mechanical Engineer Anilkumar Agarwal, he said. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday arrested Sudhanshu Rajan alias Chhotu Singh in connection with a terror funding case of Naxal affiliated organisation Tritiya Prastuti Committee (TPC).Singh, a transporter in Magadh-Amrapali coal belt region, will be produced before the NIA special judge in Ranchi on Tuesday. According to sources, he got contracts for transporting coal in the region on the alleged recommendation of TPC leader Akraman.These contracts were taken at a higher rate than the prevailing rates and the extra amount was being transferred in cash to Akraman by the accused. So far seven persons have been arrested in this connection. Further investigation in the matter is underway.
A woman was allegedly stabbed to death on Monday morning at Assam's Tinsukia district, allegedly by a jilted lover, who later attempted suicide, a police officer said. The victim, who worked as a domestic help at Makum area in the district, was attacked at her employer's house, he told reporters. Both the accused and the victim were in their early 20s, he noted. "The owner of the house, on finding the woman lying in a pool of blood, rushed her to Tinsukia civil hospital and informed the police," the police officer said. The accused, after stabbing the woman, tried to commit suicide by slitting his throat, he said. "The man, too, has been admitted at Tinsukia hospital. The doctors have said he is recovering," the officer said, adding that local people have claimed that the attack was fallout of a "relationship gone sour".

A Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) has awarded over Rs 40 lakh to the family of a 55-year-old man who died after coming under a bus in the city while alighting from it more than four years ago. MACT Presiding Officer Rakesh Kumar asked United India Insurance Company Limited, insurer of the offending vehicle to pay Rs 42,66,016 as compensation along with interest to the family of Rajinder Singh. "The respondent No. 3 (United India Insurance Company Limited) being the insurer is directed to deposit the award amount within a period of 30 days," the court said. It also said that Kumar, driver of the bus and the state-run Delhi Transport Corporation were "jointly and severally" liable to pay the compensation. The court, after considering the documentary as well as oral evidence, noted that it was clear that Kumar, the driver of the offending vehicle was driving in a rash and negligent manner. A 24-year-old man was arrested for allegedly stealing articles worth lakhs of rupees from an Air India pilot's car that was parked outside the Aerocity Metro Station, police said Monday. The accused was identified as Mukesh Kumar, a native of Bond Kalan village in Haryana's Bhiwani, they said. Kumar had worked in a catering services company at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) as a loader for about seven to eight months last year and was presently unemployed, a senior police official said. A 62-year-old man was Monday killed in neighbouring Navi Mumbai's Koparkhairane area after he was hit on the head with a pressure cooker, police said. The victim's son, reportedly suffering from schizophrenia, was also inside the flat when the incident took place and was found with hand injuries and rushed to hospital, police added. The Supreme Court Monday declined early hearing of the petitions in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title dispute case, saying it has already listed them in January next year. The apex court on October 29 had fixed the case for the first week of January before an "appropriate bench", which will decide the schedule of hearing. "We have already passed the order. The appeals are coming up in January. Permission declined," a bench comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice S K Kaul said while rejecting the request of early hearing the cases. The plea for early hearing was mentioned by lawyer Barun Kumar Sinha, representing Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha (ABHM) which is one of the respondents in the appeal filed by legal heirs of M Siddiq in the case. Pakistan's former military dictator general (retd) Pervez Musharraf on Monday challenged an order of a special court to form a commission to record his statement in the high treason case against him, according to a media report. The 75-year-old former army chief, who currently stays in Dubai, was indicted in the case in March 2014. The special court on October 15 ordered that Musharraf's statement in the case would be recorded through a commission. The former president challenged the order of the special court in the Islamabad High Court. In his petition, Musharraf stated that the formation of the commission by the special court to record the statement was alien to Pakistan's criminal procedure and unprecedented, Geo News reported. Sudhanshu Ranjan alias Chotu Singh, a resident of Simaria in Chatra district of Jharkhand, was involved in supply of funds to the Left Wing Extremists outfit Tritiya Prastuti committee or TPC, it said. The NIA said Chotu Singh is a transporter in the Magadh-Amrapali coal belt region. He got contracts for transporting coal in the region on the recommendation of TPC leader Akraman alias Netaji. A BJP woman worker, who had slapped sexual harassment charges against senior party leader Sanjay Kumar, has sent her complaint to the police on e-mail. The victim has lodged a complaint with the police in connection with the case which is being looked into, ADG (Law and Order) Ashok Kumar said Monday. The complaint was received on e-mail on the November 10 night and is being looked into by SP (Rural) Sarita Dobhal, he said. Kumar has already resigned from the post of Pradesh BJP general secretary (Oorganisation) following the controversy.
