A labourer was arrested on eve-teasing charges in Shamli district, police said Sunday. The accused, Shadab, reportedly misbehaved with a girl at her house Saturday, Circle Officer Ashok Kumar said. The youth was beaten up by people when the girl raised an alarm. He was later handed over to police, the officer said.
Former Minister and mining baron Janardhan Reddy on Saturday reached the Central Crime Branch (CCB) office for questioning in connection with an alleged bribery case.Around 11 pm, the police had said the questioning is still going on."Questioning of Janardhan Reddy is on. A case of fraud and cheating has come to light in Meerut where Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament (MP) Rajendra Agarwal received a call from an unknown person posing as a State Bank of India's (SBI) employee.On Thursday evening, Rajendra Agarwal received a phone call at around 4:15 pm from a person claiming to be a State Bank of India's Parliament Branch employee from where the BJP MP's salary is credited.The caller asked for the account number and the number written on ATM card, but Agarwal refused to give any detail. The Mumbai Crime Branch on Saturday arrested a retired Captain for allegedly duping people of Rs 36 lakh on the pretext of giving them jobs in Indian Navy.Trinetra, a retired Navy Captain who runs Saraswati Academy in Vishakhapatnam, had promised people a sure shot job in Indian Navy in Mumbai.The scam came to light after six students enrolled in Trinetra's academy approached the police and filed a complaint against him.According to the complaint received, Trinetra took Rs 6 lakh each from the students and also issued them fake appointment letters of job in the Navy.Trinetra has been arrested by the crime branch for cheating and forging official documents.Earlier this week, the Hyderabad Task Force had arrested a travel agent for duping people on the pretext of providing jobs in Israel, Ecuador, and other countries.The officials also recovered three passports, three Aadhaar cards and two pan cards under different names belonging to the accused, identified as Vosa Gangadhar.

A two-month-old boy died allegedly after he was administered an injection by a quack here, police said on Saturday. The parents of the boy had taken him to a clinic in Kitadih locality after he had fallen sick on Friday. After check-up, the alleged quack administered an injection to the baby, following which he turned non-responsive. The couple then rushed the boy to government-run M G M Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead, police said. When doctors at the hospital enquired about the injection administered at the clinic, the couple said no prescription was given to them by the quack. The accused has fled and efforts are on to arrest him, police said.
Police on Saturday recovered the body of a man from the room of a posh hotel in Esplanade area of the metropolis. Harsha Balani (24), hailing from Gujarat and pursuing MBA in Jharkhand, was found in an unconscious state inside the bathroom of the hotel where he had checked-in on Friday, a senior police officer said. Balani was taken to a hospital where he was declared brought-dead, he said, adding, there were injury marks around his neck. "The man was found lying unconscious inside the bathroom under a running shower. A knife was also recovered from the spot. We have started an investigation into the matter," the officer said. The man's body has been sent for post-mortem.
A 21-year-old man was beaten to death by villagers in West Singhbhum district after he allegedly raped his 9-year-old niece, police said on Saturday. Taluka Purty, the victim's paternal uncle, raped her in one room of the house on Friday night at Karlajori village under Muffassil police station area. The girl's grand-mother was in another room when the incident happened, police said. The villagers reached the spot on hearing the scream of the victim, caught hold of the accused and beat him up. Purty was later taken to a hospital in Chaibasa where he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday afternoon, police said. The girl was sent for medical examination.

A 10-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a family friend in east Delhi's New Ashok Nagar, police said Saturday. The incident happened on Friday night. The accused was known to the girl's family and took her with him for an outing on Friday and then raped her, police said. The victim then narrated the ordeal to her parents who approached police and a case was registered in the matter. A former finance consultant of a private bank was arrested Saturday from the Delhi airport by the Noida police for allegedly duping a retired Army man of Rs 1.40 crore, officials said. The accused, Vinay Chadda (29), was held in the morning when he arrived at the Indira Gandhi International Airport from Dubai, they said.
