A man and two others have been arrested for allegedly killing his wife -- a 38-year-old school teacher -- in northwest Delhi's Bawana area, police said Thursday. The accused were identified as Manjeet (38), husband of the deceased, his girlfriend Angel Gupta alias Shashi Prabha (26) and Rajeev (40), they added. Manjeet was in a relationship with Angel and his wife, Sunita, objected to it, so they conspired to eliminate her, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini) Rajneesh Gupta said. Sunita was shot dead on Monday morning by unknown assailants while she was on the way to her school. She was shot thrice and was declared brought dead at the hospital, police said. She is survived by a 16-year-old daughter and 8-year-old son, they said. A manhunt is underway to nab the persons who were hired for the murder, Gupta said.
A 46-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly killing another after a scuffle broke out between them at a petrol pump in Dwarka's Chhawla area, police said Thursday. The accused, identified as Sushil, was arrested Wednesday, they said, adding that the incident took place on the night of October 24. During investigation, it was found that the victim, identified as Sanjay (38), had a quarrel with the accused at the pump over getting fuel filled in their vehicles. The two then had a fight, Girraj Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka), said. Sanjay was later found lying unconscious at the spot while the accused had fled, he said. He was then rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was declared brought dead, he said. Police initially could not ascertain the identity of the accused, Singh added. The charred body of a 62-year-old man was found at his residence in west Delhi's Janakpuri area on Thursday, police said. The deceased, identified as Joginder Pal Singh, retired as a senior technical officer in the Military Engineer Service (MES) in 2014, they added. Police were informed about the incident at 5.56 pm. When police rushed to the spot, Singh's daughter told police that her father used to live alone in Janakpuri and she usually visited him during the day, a senior police officer said. At around 5.30, Singh's daughter had gone to a general store to buy some article and when she returned home, the guard informed her about a fire on the second floor of the house, the officer said. When his daughter reached the second floor of the residence, she found her father's charred body, Monika Bhardwaj, Deputy Commissioner of Police (west) said. A crime team and a team from Forensic Science Laboratory visited the spot, police said, adding further investigation is in progress.
One person was arrested on Thursday after police recovered a huge quantity of explosives stored illegally in his house in Pakur district, a senior police officer said. The man is a resident of Pipal Jodi village under the jurisdiction of Mal Pahari police outpost, the police officer said. Acting on a tip-off that a villager has stored a huge quantity of explosives illegally, the police conducted a raid in the house of Meghrai Kisku and recovered 1,510 pieces of detonators along with 11 sacks of gelatin, the Superintendent of Police (SP) of the district, Shailendra Prasad Burnwal, said. He was arrested from the spot for illegally storing explosives, Burnwal said. Kisku said that the explosives belonged to a mine owner called Navin Jain, a resident of Sindhi Para, the SP said. Aurangabad corporator Syed Mateen Syed Rashid Thursday alleged that the municipal corporation mayor refused him entry to attend the general body meeting. The move triggered a ruckus in the meeting hall, which led to suspension of 15 corporators of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen (AIMIM) for the day. Mateen was attacked by corporators on August 17 after he opposed the move to pay tribute to former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The Trade and Taxes department of the Delhi government has detected a fraud of Rs 22.74 crore committed by a businessman who allegedly used forged documents to claim Input Tax Credit (ITC) under the Goods and Services Tax (GST). The department has filed a complaint with the Economic Offence Wing (EFC) of the Delhi Police seeking an FIR in the matter. According to a complaint filed by the department's assistant commissioner, Manoj Tyagi, the accused person, along with his friends, availed tax credit of Rs 22.74 crore and were also in the process of claiming further credit of Rs 22.61 crore. A former BJP corporator was arrested here Thursday by Anti-Extortion Cell of police for allegedly extorting money from a builder. Rajkumar Yadav, the accused, allegedly demanded Rs 50 lakh from a city-based builder, threatening to approach the authorities and seek action against his construction projects if he did not pay up, police said. Yadav had allegedly accepted Rs 5 lakh from the builder, they said. Yadav was allegedly part of a group of racketeers who obtained information about various construction projects under the Right to Information Act and used it to blackmail the builders, police said. Police had arrested two persons including former corporator Sudhir Barge for allegedly demanding and accepting Rs 5 lakh from the same builder last week.
A man was arrested for allegedly killing his girlfriend after she threatened to expose their relationship to his wife, police said Thursday. Deputy Superintendent of Police (City) Dharmendra Chauhan said the mother of the woman had on October 19 filed a complaint regarding the disappearance her daughter at Kotwali G T Road police station here. After a detailed investigation, a man, identified as Deepak, of Garhi Katiyya village of the Loni area here was arrested from his house Wednesday, he said. Deepak, while confessing to the crime, said he had met the woman at a discotheque and became friends with her, the SP said. After a few days the girl began demanding money from him and threatened she will expose their relationship to his wife if he failed to do so, Chauhan said. Deepak planned to eliminate her and took her to Mangalore town near Haridwar in Uttarakhand on September 29. He strangled her and threw the body in a canal, he said. The Delhi Police Thursday filed a charge sheet against former BSP MP's son Ashish Pandey, who was arrested for brandishing gun in a hotel here. Court sources said that in the charge sheet, Pandey has been accused of intimidating a man and his woman friend with a pistol in his hand. Police have said that a case under the Arms Act is made out against the accused, who brandished pistol at a hotel. The court has put up the final report for consideration for tomorrow. Pandey had allegedly brandished a pistol at guests of a five-star hotel threatening them in the foyer, a video of which went viral on the social media. The charge sheet was filed under sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act and sections 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code. Four men were arrested for allegedly robbing and killing one person at New Seemapuri, police said Thursday. The deceased was identified as Sanjay. On the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday, the four accused persons along with three other people barged into Sanjay's house and robbed him of cash and jewellery worth Rs 50 lakh after holding him hostage, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (crime) Rajesh Deo. They strangled him to death when he began shouting for help, Deo said. Acting on a tip-off, police laid a trap in Karkardooma and two people -- Pankaj (22) and Naveen Kumar (27) -- were apprehended, he said. During interrogation, they told police about their accomplices Saajan Beniwal (32), Sandeep Chaturvedi (27), Vijay, Mahesh and Upender. Later, Beniwal and Chaturvedi were also arrested, the DCP said, adding that efforts were underway to nab the remaining accused.
