A woman advocate, who was allegedly thrashed by a BJP councillor along with her police officer friend, landed in a controversy Wednesday after she drove her car rashly hitting at least four vehicles here. Meerut (City) Superintendent of Police Ran Vijay Singh told PTI the advocate, Dipti Chudhary, has been booked for creating ruckus at a public place and sent to the district hospital for medical examination. Police said Dipti was under the influence of alcohol when she drove her hatchback mindlessly from Kutchery to Boundary Road, hitting two other cars and as many motorcycles. This led to a ruckus on the road following which police reached the spot. They said when Dipti was taken to the Lalkurti police station, she created a ruckus there as well alleging the police inspector was acting on orders from the BJP. With the arrest of three members of the notorious Bawaria gang, police in Greater Noida Wednesday claimed to have solved the sensational double murder case. The bodies of an elderly couple was found from the house in Jamalpur village on October 12, while a couple in the adjacent house was allegedly thrashed by the gang in the loot, triggering panic in the area. Those arrested have been identified as Naresh alias Bhola Bhawaria, 38 , Raju Bawaria, 28, and Dharampal Bawaria, 27, all residents of Haryana, police said. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday registered a case against seven officials of Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) on account of corruption charges.The case was registered under sections 120-B (Criminal Conspiracy), 409 (Breach of Trust), 420 (Cheating and Forgery), 467 (Forgery of Valuable Security), 468 (Forgery for Purpose of Cheating), and 471 (Forged Documents Used) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).As per a complaint dated October 10, a half-yearly audit conducted earlier in the month revealed that select payments made against certain vouchers were carried out without any supporting documents, bills, invoices or work orders. Furthermore, it was highlighted that an officer, in collusion with select contractors had forged official documents and fraudulently misappropriated funds over Rs 5 crore and cheated HAL "with criminal and ulterior motive for his own benefits".More details are awaited.
The Bombay High Court Wednesday junked a lower court's order, which had granted police more time to file the charge sheet against lawyer Surendra Gadling and others, who were arrested in June for alleged Maoist links in the aftermath of violence at Bhima Koregaon near Pune. While the ruling can pave the way for Gadling and the other accused to seek bail, Justice Mridula Bhatkar stayed her own order from becoming effective till November 1 so that the government could file an appeal in the Supreme Court. In the ruling, Justice Bhatkar questioned how the police officers were allowed to make arguments independently before the Pune court, seeking additional time. "This shows the investigating officer has navigated (argued on) the application for extension of the period by further 90 days, which is not contemplated under the law," the high court said. Four members of an inter-state gang were arrested by Raigad Police in Maharashtra for allegedly smuggling snake venom worth Rs 1.7 crore in illicit markets, an official said Wednesday. Acting on a tip-off, police arrested Rajaram Jaiswar (46) and Udaynath Jaiswar (37) at Mandva Jetty in Raigad and recovered snake venom kept in a water bottle, he said. The accused, hailing from Malvani in Mumbai, allegedly told police that two persons from Gujarat had handed over the venom to them. Police then arrested Devilal Joshi (36) and Santoshkumar Singh (35) from Vapi district of Gujarat, the official said. Joshi hails from Bikaner in Rajasthan while Singh is from Uttar Pradesh, he said. All four were sent in police custody till October 29 by a local court, he said. Police are investigating from where the accused procured the venom and for what purpose they were going to use it, he said.

A man was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly misbehaving with a woman employee of a private airline at Kolkata airport, police said. Amitabh Ganguly was held from the NSC Bose International Airport, following a written complaint lodged by the carrier, they said. An elderly man out on a morning walk was mowed down by a speeding car in Northeast Delhi's New Usmanpur area on Wednesday, police said. Chandrapal, 80, was a resident of New Usmanpur area. The speeding car hit him at around 6.30 am while he was out on a walk, they said. He was taken to a hospital where he succumbed to injuries, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast) Atul Kumar Thakur said. The accused, Anil Kumar (40) is a taxi driver. A Joint Collector of Narsinghpur district in Madhya Pradesh was Wednesday arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh from a contractor at Gotegaon near here, Lokayukta police said. The official was identified as, R K Vanshkar (59), they said. "Vanshkar had sought Rs 2 lakh bribe from a road construction contractor. He demanded the bribe to clear papers of the contractor to dig mud mines for constructing roads," Lokayukta Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Dilip Jharwade told PTI over phone. After Rs 2 lakh cash was delivered to Vanshkar, who also happens to be Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Gotegaon, he asked his aide to hide it under a sofa cover. We recovered the money hidden under the cover, he added. "Besides that, we also recovered Rs 2,65,500 separately from his room at Gotegaon rest house where he was staying," the DSP said. The Muradnagar police has arrested three persons from here in connection with the murder of a youth, officials said Wednesday. Acting on a secret tip, the police nabbed the three accused from Sonia Vihar Water Regulator Plant at Ganges Canal on Tuesday evening, they said. Senior Superintendent of Police Vaibhav Krishna said the accused were identified as Aaseesh, Vickey and Mohit. Vickey had borrowed Rs 50,000 from Maneesh, the accused told the police during interrogation, they said. Even through the money was returned with interest 20 days ago, Maneesh and Vickey had quarrelled over the issue. After a few days, Vickey again borrowed money from Montu, this time Rs 15,000. A court here Wednesday refused to grant bail to Yug Tuli, co-owner of Mojo's Bistro restaurant and an accused in the December 2017 Kamala Mills Compound blaze in Mumbai that claimed 14 lives. This is the second time that Tuli's bail plea has been turned down by a sessions court here. A massive fire swept through two roof-top pubs- Mojo's Bistro and 1 Above- located in Kamala Mills Compound in central Mumbai, on December 29 last year, resulting in the death of 14 people. Additional Sessions Judge U M Padwad observed that the offence was "extremely serious" and occurred due to the "sheer carelessness" of the accused. A surveillance team of the state government and police seized 61 kg of silver at Chhapara town during vehicle-checking in Seoni district of the poll-bound Madhya Pradesh Wednesday.
