A US appeals court on Tuesday upheld the conviction and life prison sentence given to a London imam for supporting terrorism. The 2nd US Circuit Court of Appeals said there was overwhelming evidence against Mustafa Kamel Mustafa, 60. The court also ruled that Mustafa's 2012 extradition to the U.S. from England didn't come with conditions preventing his incarceration at the Supermax prison in Florence, Colorado. Mustafa is missing both hands. His lawyers said he belongs at a prison better suited to people with disabilities. A lawyer for Mustafa did not respond to a request for comment Tuesday. Mustafa was convicted in 2014 of ensuring there were satellite communications for kidnappers during a 1998 attack that killed four tourists in Yemen, of supporting plans to open an al-Qaida training camp in Bly, Oregon, and sending someone to an Afghanistan training camp. A 36-year-old man was arrested for allegedly posing as a police officer and thrashing a shop owner, police said Tuesday. The accused, Deepak Choudhary alias Deepak Maan, a resident of Chattarpur Enclave. During investigation, it was found that he was a property dealer not a police official, they added. The incident came to light when Sagar Khera, a resident of Madangiri, filed a complaint that one person claiming to be a sub-inspector at Malviya Nagar police station came to his shop at around 8.45 pm on Sunday and started beating and abusing him without any reason, a senior police officer said. Sagar's brother Apar Khera gave the alleged accused's contact number to police and also provided the video footage of the incident, police said. Initially, Deepak did not respond to calls. Maharashtra Police Tuesday registered a case of cheating against entrepreneur-politician Nowhera Shaikh for duping investors, an official said. A case of cheating was registered against Shaikh at J J Marg police station in South Mumbai on the complaint of an investor who was alleged cheated of Rs 3 lakh, said senior police inspector Shirish Gaikwad. "We have transferred this offence to the economics offence wing (EOW) of the Mumbai Police," he said. Shaikh, Managing Director of Heera Group of Companies, had allegedly promised investors attractive returns on their investments, but failed to return their money. She was recently arrested in New Delhi by Hyderabad police.

Four people, including a 22-year old man allegedly running an unlicenceed crackers outlet, were killed here Tuesday when fire-crackers and some raw materials exploded accidentally at his premises, police said. Retailer Mushtaq, and three others, including two women, were killed in the mishap which occured at his residence while he was arranging the fire-crackers and raw materials. Under the impact of the explosion, walls of the old house were severly damaged. The firecrackers that exploded were "locally made, unbranded and more powerful than the branded ones," a senior official told PTI. Though the firecrackers and raw materials were procured from those holding explosive licence, the youth did not have a licence for retail sale of crackers, he said. Mushtaq's father Maideen was being questioned, the official said adding a case has been registered and a probe was on.

A 58-year-old man and his nephew were arrested for allegedly stealing gold from a jewellery shop in Delhi's Rohini's sector-3 area, police said Tuesday. The accused have been identified as Shabeer Hussain and his 44-year-old nephew Ilias. Hussain is a resident of Rajasthan while Ilias belongs to Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, they added. On Tuesday, they both entered a jewellery shop in Rohini sector-3 area to purchase gold. While they were leaving the shop, the owner had some doubt on them. A man suspected of shooting and killing a University of Utah student was found dead early Tuesday inside a church about three hours after the shooting that closed down the campus, according to a broadcast report. The female student was shot outside a dormitory on campus just before 10 am (local time) and was not immediately identified. But authorities said she had had a relationship with the shooter, identified as Melvin Rowland. Police followed Rowland into a church after he was seen at about at about 1 am (local time), University of Utah Police Lt Brian Wahlin told KUTV. The Kota police Tuesday arrested two persons allegedly involved in robbing two petrol pump employees of over Rs 21 lakh a day earlier and recovered nearly Rs 20 lakh of the looted amount. The duo - Rajendra Koli, 42, and Cheetarlal Koli, 55, - were arrested from their respective homes at Subjimandi Chawani and Kunhari areas within 36 hours of the sensational day-light robbery, Kota City SP Deepak Bhargav told reporters. Two motorcycle-borne, masked robbers had struck the two petrol pump employees outside a Punjab National Bank branch opposite Akash Mall and decamped after snatching their bag containing Rs 21.23 lakh at gun point, the SP said. After arresting the accused, the police were able to recover a total of Rs 19.85 lakh from them - Rs 10 lakh from the first and Rs 9.85 lakh from the other, he said. The police also recovered the bike used in the crime, though the weapon used in the crime is yet to be found, he said.

: A nine-year-old boy student died after he was allegedly beaten up by a senior following a quarrel in the premises of a state-run residential school in Khammam town in Telangana Tuesday, police said. Protesters blocked the Delhi-Meerut highway Tuesday, demanding quick arrest of those involved in the murder of a youth in Muradnagar police station area. The people from the Balmiki Samaj also created a ruckus at the police station before a large police contingent arrived. A 33-year-old man was arrested Tuesday for allegedly killing his wife's paramour in northwest Delhi's Mahendra Park, police said. The accused, identified as Vinod Sah, told police that on Saturday night his wife called Sajjan Paswan to meet her while he was sleeping. After he woke up, he found Paswan and his wife together, police said. Enraged, he allegedly hit Paswan on his head with a brick and fled with his family, they said. Paswan's body was found Sunday morning at Sah's house, police said. Sah and his family were found missing and a manhunt was launched to find them. On Tuesday, police learnt about Sah and his family being present at the Old Delhi railway station following which Sah was arrested. police said. The query was posed by Justice Shahrukh Kathawalla while hearing an application filed by film director Vikas Bahl, facing accusations of sexual harassment. In the plea, Bahl has sought the high court direction to his former partners and directors Anurag Kashyap, Vikramaditya Motwane and Madhu Mantena to refrain from speaking to the media or posting on social media anything about the case in which a female employee of their erstwhile production house has alleged she was sexually harassed by Bahl in 2015.
