An 11-year-old-boy was killed and two others were injured, one of them critically, after a gas cylinder exploded at workshop here Sunday, police said. The incident took place at a motorcycle mechanic's workshop in the Giaspura locality, they said. The deceased, Amit, was the son of the workshop's owner Jatinder Yadav, police said. The boy died on the spot while the injured were rushed to a hospital, they said.
Police have arrested five persons in connection with the alleged gang rape of a minor girl in Uttar Pradesh's Siddharthanagar district, an official said Sunday. The girl (15) was gang raped on October 4, and on the complaint of her mother, police lodged an FIR against eight people on Friday evening, Superintendent of Police Dharamveer Singh said. "Of these, five of the accused persons were arrested Friday night, while a search is on to arrest the remaining three accused persons," he said. Singh said as per reports, the girl went to a field on October 4 night to relieve herself and the eight men dragged her, and after covering her mouth with a cloth, raped her. They also made a video of the incident. The accused and the victim are residents of the same village, police said. "The FIR was registered against eight persons under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and provisions of the POCSO Act on the complaint registered by the girl's mother," the SP said.
A 23-year-old man from Karnataka was arrested for allegedly raping and killing a middle-aged woman at Old Goa village, 10 kms away from here, police said Sunday. The arrest was made Saturday night, days after the victim's body was found in Old Goa, police said. "The accused, Manjunath Dodamani, hailed from Belgaum in Karnataka and lived with his parents at Old Goa. He was arrested last night," Superintendent of Police (North), Chandan Chaudhury, told reporters. "He has confessed to the crime. He told the police that on Wednesday night, he offered lift to the woman and later took her to an isolated spot, where he raped her and later strangled her to death," the SP said adding that the accused knew the deceased. The woman's post-mortem had revealed that she had been sexually assaulted and murdered, police said. Chaudhury said a team of 15 police officers followed all possible leads to nab the accused.
Two men were beaten to death by a mob after they allegedly shot at a 12-year-old boy during a religious function at a temple in Saraiya village here, police said Sunday. A man was arrested Sunday after smack worth Rs 4 crore was allegedly seized from his car, police said. Superintendent of Police Manoj Kumar Singh said accused Rehmat Ali (25) tried to speed past the police checkpoint when asked to stop. "The vehicle was, however, stopped and on searching it, we found smack worth Rs 4 crore in the international market," he said. "Rahmat has said that he was going to Devalji in Rajasthan to deliver the consignment to a person called Chintu Musalman. A five-year-old boy was allegedly sodomised by a man and found with serious injuries at a field in a village here, police said Sunday. The incident took place Saturday evening. Based on a complaint from a family member of the boy, a case was registered under Section 377 (carnal intercourse against the order of nature) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, Station House Officer (SHO) Nemchand said. The boy, who was found with injuries to his private parts, is undergoing treatment at a local hospital, he said. The complainant alleged that the boy was found in an unconscious state. They were admitted to a hospital in critical condition. Regional Medical Officer, Gurgaon Civil Hospital, Pawan Choudhary confirmed the death of Ritu and said the post-mortem examination had been conducted. Her son continued to be critical, he added. An illegal arms manufacturing unit was busted Sunday in Khatoli here and one person was arrested, police said. Several semi-finished pistols, and two guns and as many rifles and pistols were seized, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sudhir Kumar said. Seventeen gun barrels were also found at the unit by a police team, he said. Kumar said one of the accused, Arif, was arrested while his accomplice Gopal is at large. The Supreme Court has stayed the order of Uttarakhand High Court which had directed that no two-wheelers would be allowed to ply on a street, used primarily by morning walkers, in Haldwani. A bench of Justices Madan B Lokur and Deepak Gupta also stayed the high court's directive which had said that proper railings should be fixed on both sides of 'Thandi sadak' in Haldwani and necessary steps be taken for its beautification. The apex court also issued notice to the Uttarakhand government on a plea by Thandi Sadak Shopkeeper Association which has challenged only these two directions among the five passed by the high court in its June 18 order. A 17-year-old girl was thrown into a dry well by a man when she resisted his alleged attempt to rape her, but she escaped with minor injuries at village in Jangaon district of Telangana, police said Sunday. D Rajesh, aged around 25, allegedly attempted to rape the girl on Saturday when her parents had gone out for work, they said. When the girl resisted his attempts, he dragged her from near her house and threw her into a dry well near an agriculture well under Zaffergadh mandal. As locals rushed to the spot on hearing the screams of the girl, the man too jumped into the well out of fear, police said. The girl was rescued and treated for minor injuries at a hospital while the man was beaten up by the locals shortly before police who arrived there arrested him. A Pakistani national was arrested by the Sri Lankan authorities at the Bandaranaike International Airport here for attempting to smuggle over 2 kgs of heroin worth Rs30 million, according to a media report. The 39-year-old suspect had arrived from Qatar and was arrested after the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) found 2.42 kgs of heroin concealed in a false bottom of his luggage, the Colombo Page reported. The heroin stock was said to be worth about Rs 30 million in the international market. Following the arrest, the authorities at the airport conducted further investigations.

The incident took place Saturday evening when Sachin Kashyap, around 25, was returning home.
