TV journalist injured in assault near home in Mumbai

A television journalist was injured when a group of unidentified people allegedly assaulted him near his house in south Mumbai early Sunday, police said. Herman Gomes, working with a private TV channel, was returning home along with a friend in a taxi late Saturday night. When he got out of the cab around 1.30 am on Sunday, he saw four to six persons waiting near his house in Gamdevi area, Deputy Commissioner of Police (zone-II) Dnyaneshwar Chavan told PTI. The persons started abusing Gomes and later allegedly assaulted him, Chavan said. The journalist was injured in the assault and based on his complaint, the Gamdevi police later registered a case under IPC sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 147 (rioting), 324 (voluntary causing hurt by dangerous weapons) and other relevant provisions, he said. Man killed as truck hits bike

One person was killed and two others injured when a speeding truck hit their bike near Atarhat village in Chilla area here, police said Sunday. The incident took place on Saturday when the three -- Anil Kumar (21), Anuj (18) and Umesh (19) were going somewhere. All of them were rushed to a hospital where Anil died during treatment. The truck driver is absconding.

Neighbour rapes minor girl in UP

A nine-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour in a village in the Kandhai area here, police said Sunday. The incident took place Saturday when the girl was alone in her house and neighbour Rajesh reached there and raped her, they said. Later, when her mother returned home she informed the police. The girl's father had passed away. An FIR has been registered in the matter and a manhunt launched to nab the accused who is absconding, the police said.

UP: BA student gang-raped, 1 arrested

Mastermind of fake Indian Territorial Army recruitment racket arrested

A 39-year-old mastermind of a fake Indian Territorial Army recruitment racket was arrested from Uttarakhand's Haridwar, police said Saturday. Yogender alias Bunty, a resident of Charkhi Dadri, Haryana, was heading an inter-state racket that was cheating the unemployed rural youths on the pretext of arranging jobs in the Army, the Indian Railways and the ONGC, they said. On May 3, one Sudheer, a resident of Charkhi Dadri, registered a complaint alleging that that he was cheated of Rs 5 lakh by the gang for a job in the Army, said Ram Gopal Naik, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime). The gang used to take fake physical tests in Army grounds and fake medical examination in Base Hospital, Delhi Cantt area, along with the fake interviews, Naik added. Man arrested for Rs 11-lakh bank fraud in Delhi

A 30-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly impersonating an account holder of a Cental Bank of India branch in Dwarka and committing a fraud of Rs 11 lakh, police said Saturday. Koshi Kumar, a native of Chandole village in Jharkhand's Giridih district, has been taken into police custody, they said. Based on a complaint filed on September 17, a case was registered at the Chanakya Puri police station. The complainant alleged that Rs 11.5 lakh was withdrawn from his bank account, a senior police officer said. The complainant claimed his registered mobile number was changed without his consent and the said amount was withdrawn through net banking, the officer added. During an investigation, the employees at the bank branch were questioned and the account details were obtained, Madhur Verma, Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi), said. Delhi bank robbery: Two arrested, Rs 15,000 recovered

Two men were arrested on Saturday for their alleged involvement in a bank robbery in southwest Delhi's Dwarka, in which a cashier was killed, police said. In the bank robbery on Friday, Santosh Kumar (25) was killed and three persons injured in firing by the accused, who fled on motorcycles with Rs 3.16 lakh. The arrested persons were identified as Sachin (20) and Parvesh (19), both residents of Haryana's Khewra village, they said. Sachin was arrested from Murthal, they added. Police said CCTV footage of the incident showed five masked men and one wearing a helmet barging into the Khaira village branch of Corporation Bank. 2 arrested for duping man from Punjab

Two men, accused of defrauding a man from Punjab of Rs 8 lakh using made-up insurance policies as bait, have been arrested here, police said Saturday. The accused were identified as Ankit Kumar, 24, resident of Mohan Garden in Uttam Nagar and Rahul Bansal, 24, resident of Gandhi Nagar, they said. According to his police complaint, Punjab resident Ramesh Chander Khurana started receiving calls in October 2015 from different mobile numbers where the callers claimed to be phoning from the customer relations department of his insurance company in Delhi. The callers "apprised" Khurana of the amount of claim he had on his investments in insurance policies, said Ajit Singla, additional commissioner of police (crime). They told Khurana that he can claim Rs 3,56,250 for the year 2011 to 2015. Guj: Cop injured after bootlegger drives car over his legs

A policeman sustained serious injuries Saturday after an alleged bootlegger ran a car over his legs in a bid to escape from a check post on the Gujarat-Rajasthan border in Arvalli district, an official said. Head constable Jitendra Damor sustained serious injuries on both legs after Om Prakash Dangi, a bootlegger from Rajasthan, tried to drive past a barricade set up at Shamlaji, sub inspector M P Chauhan said. He said that the incident happened when police teams were checking vehicles entering Gujarat from that point in Shamlaji. "Dangi was asked to halt his car by Damor but he tried to speed away and ran the vehicle over the policeman's legs. Damor has sustained serious injuries on both legs," Chauhan said. Damor was operated on one leg in a private hospital where he is admitted, the official informed. The Cine and TV Artists' Association (CINTAA) has expressed regret for not paying adequate heed to the complaint filed by Tanushree Dutta's against Nana Patekar and others in 2008."We have already apologised that Tanushree's complaint was not addressed properly in 2008. A 21-year-old man was stabbed to death in southeast Delhi on Saturday, police said. The police were informed that a man has been stabbed multiple times following a quarrel among some men in Indira Kalyan Vihar of the Okhla Industrial Area, they said. When policemen reached the spot, they found that one Saeed Anwar alias Raja had been shifted to the ESI Hospital where he was declared brought dead, police said. Two absconders arrested in J K's Rajouri

Two persons, one of whom was wanted in a case registered against him nine years ago, were arrested Saturday in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district, police said. Khurshid Ahmad, a resident of Deri Leyote village, was absconding for the last nine years. He was arrested on a specific information from the Manjakote area of the district, said Senior Superintendent of Police, Rajouri, Yougal Manhas. He said Ahmad was wanted in a case registered at a local police station in 2009. He is facing charges under various sections of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC), including 341 (wrongful restraint), 336 (endangering life or personal safety of others) and 355 (assault or use of criminal force), Manhas said. Guj: Woman gangraped in Kutch by five persons

A woman was gangraped allegedly by five persons including an acquaintance of the victim in Gujarat's Kutch district, police said Saturday. The incident took place in Kotda Jadodar village in Nakhatrana taluka on Wednesday, an official said. A 40-year-old married woman from Moti Virani village in Nakhatrana was offered a lift in a car by Mohan Ahir, a man known to her, police said. "The accused offered to take her to Mata no Madh temple but instead took her to a shopping complex in Kotda Jadodar village, and along with four other friends, raped her," the official said. She managed to escape and filed a complaint with Nakhatrana police station on Saturday, he said. Efforts were on to nab Ahir and the other four accused, he said.

Fake currency notes seized, two persons arrested by police

The police arrested two persons and seized fake currency notes with a face value of Rs 1 lakh from their possession in West Bengal's Malda district, a police officer said Saturday. In the early hours of Saturday, a police team found two youths moving suspiciously in a motorcycle in Baisnabnagar area. They detained the youths and during search found fake currency notes with a face value of Rs 1 lakh in their possession, the officer said. The counterfeit notes were in the denomination of Rs 2000, he said. Both the arrested youths were produced before a local court which remanded them to seven days police custody, the officer added.
