MP finance minister presents state budget amid ruckus by opposition

Madhya Pradesh Finance Minister Jagdish Devda on Wednesday presented state budget for the year 2024-25 in the legislative assembly amid ruckus created by the opposition Congress over the issue of an alleged nursing college scam. The CBI is probing the alleged scam pertaining to gross irregularities in the functioning of several nursing colleges that lacked infrastructure while some existed only on paper. As the House assembled for the budget presentation, Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar and other Congress members demanded the resignation of minister Vishvas Sarang in connection with the alleged scam. MP to develop places linked to Lord Ram, Lord Krishna as pilgrim sites: CM

The Madhya Pradesh government will develop the places associated with Lord Ram and Lord Krishna in the state as pilgrimage sites, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has said. The government has also decided to construct welcome gates dedicated to these deities at the entry points of state capital Bhopal, he said. CM Yadav issued directives to this effect during a review meeting of the Culture and Tourism Department on Friday, an official said. "The Madhya Pradesh government will identify the places associated with Lord Ram and Lord Krishna in the state and develop them as pilgrimage sites," Yadav said. He directed the department to construct welcome gates dedicated to Lord Rama and Lord Krishna at the entry points of Bhopal city and also make plans to set up entry gates dedicated to Raja Bhoj, an 11th century king from the Paramara dynasty, and Vikramaditya, a legendary king mentioned in Indian literature. MP CM Mohan Yadav inaugurates Madhavrao Scindia int'l stadium in Gwalior

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Saturday said his government will provide all help to promote cricket in the state as he inaugurated the Madhavrao Scindia international cricket stadium here. He was accompanied by Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, Board of Control for Cricket in India secretary Jay Shah, and former cricketer Kapil Dev. Yadav also launched the MP Cricket League on the occasion. "Cricket runs in the veins of the country. The stadium commemorates late Madhavrao Scindia's passion for cricket," Yadav said. Homes of 11 demolished after cops find beef in their refrigerators in MP

Houses built on government land by 11 persons were demolished in tribal-dominated Mandla in Madhya Pradesh as part of action against the illegal beef trade in the state, a police official said on Saturday.The action was taken after a tip off was received that a large number of cows had been held captive for slaughter in Bhainwahi area in Nainpur, Mandla Superintendent of Police Rajat Saklecha told PTI. "A team was rushed there and we found 150 cows tied in the backyards of the accused. Cow meat was recovered from the refrigerators in the homes of all the11 accused. We also found animal fat, cattle skin and bones, which were stuffed in a room," he said. "The local government veterinarian has confirmed the seized meat is beef. We have also sent samples to Hyderabad for secondary DNA analysis. The houses of the11 accused were demolished as they were on government land," the SP said. Madhya Pradesh: Polling begins in 6 Lok Sabha seats in first phase

Polling got underway Friday morning in six Lok Sabha constituencies in Madhya Pradesh, election officials said. Of the 29 Lok Sabha constituencies in the BJP-ruled state, polling is being held in Shahdol, Mandla (both reserved for Scheduled Tribes), Jabalpur, Balaghat, Chhindwara and Sidhi seats on Friday. These six constituencies cover 13 districts and 27 assembly segments. Voting began at 7 am and will end at 6 pm in most places, the official said. LS elections: BJP, Cong workers clash during TV channel debate in MP

Workers and leaders of Congress and BJP allegedly attacked each other with sticks and plastic chairs, leaving some of them injured, during a poll debate organised by a news channel in a public park in Madhya Pradesh's Jabalpur on Saturday night. Videos of two groups throwing plastic chairs and using sticks are doing rounds on social media. City Superintendent of Police Pankaj Mishra confirmed the incident. Khajuraho LS seat candidates being pressured to withdraw from poll: Cong

Madhya Pradesh Congress chief Jitu Patwari on Sunday alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was pressuring some of the candidates in the Khajuraho Lok Sabha seat to withdraw from the poll fray. The BJP, however, termed the allegations as baseless and said such claims were a cover-up for the internal conspiracies of the opposition INDIA bloc. The Congress has given the Khajuraho Lok Sabha seat to the Samajwadi Party (SP) as part of the seat-sharing agreement among the INDIA alliance constituents. The nomination form of SP candidate Meera Yadav, however, was rejected by the Returning Officer on Friday as she had failed to sign at one place and also submitted an old voters' list copy. 3 killed, 26 injured as bus carrying SAF jawans collides with car in MP

Three persons were killed and 26 others injured when a bus carrying Special Armed Forces (SAF) jawans overturned after colliding with a car in Madhya Pradesh's Seoni district early on Saturday, police said. One of the jawans sustained serious injuries and has been referred to Nagpur in neighbouring Maharashtra, an official said. The accident occurred around 1 am near Dhanagadha village on the Seoni-Mandla State Highway, some 50 km from the district headquarters. A bus carrying personnel from the state police's 35th Battalion of SAF from Mandla to Pandhurna (Chhindwara) collided with a car with five occupants including its driver, Keolari police station in-charge Chain Singh Uikey told PTI. Excavation at Bhojshala complex in MP continues as survey enters 9th day

Excavation process is currently going on at the Bhojshala/Kamal Maula mosque complex in Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh as part of its court-mandated survey being conducted by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). Soil and stones collected during the digging process are being preserved by the ASI, a person associated with the survey said on Saturday. This is the ninth day of the survey that began on March 22. Ashish Goyal, who represents the Hindus and who is accompanying the ASI team during this process, told PTI that the survey is being conducted without any break using new scientific methods, Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), Global Positioning System (GPS), carbon dating in addition to excavation at the site. Videography and photography are also being carried out on the premises, he said. "It is an eternal truth that Bhojshala was built by Raja Bhoj. No doctor in ambulance of K'taka Guv's convoy, protocol officer suspended

A protocol officer of the Madhya Pradesh Health Department was suspended after it was found that no doctor was marked for duty in the ambulance attached to Karnataka Governor Thawarchand Gehlot's convoy to attend to a medical emergency, an official said on Saturday. The absence of a doctor in the ambulance came to light after Gehlot's granddaughter, who was accompanying him, fell ill when the convoy was passing through Indore district of Madhya Pradesh on Friday evening, he said. "The Karnataka Governor's granddaughter, who was with him in the convoy, fell ill near Indore on Friday evening. But there was no doctor in the ambulance," Collector Ashish Singh told PTI. Gehlot's granddaughter was then admitted to a private hospital. She is now fine after being treated there, he added.
