Over 22.7 mn EWS students enrolled in private schools in last 5 yrs: MoE

More than 2.27 crore students from the EWS category enrolled in private schools in the last five years, with Madhya Pradesh accounting for the highest number at over 53 lakh, followed by Rajasthan, the Union Ministry of Education said on Wednesday. The information was shared by Union Minister of State for Education Annapurna Devi in response to a written question in the Rajya Sabha. According to the data, 2,27,72,124 (2.27 crore) students from the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category enrolled in private schools from 2018-19 to 2022-23. Madhya Pradesh recorded the highest enrolment of EWS students in private schools during the period under review with over 53 lakh, followed by Rajasthan at 38.11 lakh and Karnataka at 23.97 lakh. Govt identifies potential sites in MP, Rajasthan for cheetah introduction

The environment ministry and the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) have told the Supreme Court that apart from the Kuno National Park, they have identified potential sites for cheetah introduction in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. These include Gandhi Sagar Wildlife Sanctuary and Nauradehi Wildlife Sanctuary in Madhya Pradesh and Shahgarh Bulge, Bhainsrorgarh Wildlife Sanctuary and enclosure of Mukundra Hills Tiger Reserve in Rajasthan. They, however, said the Mukundra Hills Tiger Reserve is at present not fit for accommodating Cheetahs, eight of which have died in Madhya Pradesh's Kuno National Park (KNP) in the last few months. The response of the NTCA and the Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF) came in a joint affidavit after the top court, while expressing concern over the death of cheetahs at KNP had asked the Centre to explore shifting the big cats imported from Namibia and South Africa to other sanctuaries. 1.31 mn girls, women went missing between 2019 and 2021: Govt data

More than 13.13 lakh girls and women went missing in the country in three years between 2019 and 2021 and most of them were from Madhya Pradesh, followed by West Bengal. According to the Union Home Ministry data, tabled in Parliament last week, 10,61,648 women above 18 years and 2,51,430 girls below that age went missing between 2019 and 2021 across the country. The data was compiled by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). In Madhya Pradesh, 1,60,180 women and 38,234 girls went missing between 2019 and 2021, according to the data provided to Parliament. A total of 1,56,905 women and 36,606 girls went missing from West Bengal in the same period. In Maharashtra, 1,78,400 women and 13,033 girls went missing in the said period. In Odisha, 70,222 women and 16,649 girls went missing in the three years while 49,116 women and 10,817 girls went missing from Chhattisgarh in the said period. The number of tigers in Madhya Pradesh rose to 785 in 2022 from 526 in 2018, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said on Saturday as he greeted the state's people on International Tiger Day. As per the report 'Status of Tigers: Co-predators & Prey in India-2022', released by the National Tiger Conservation Authority and Wildlife Institute of India, Madhya Pradesh has the highest number of tigers in the country, followed by Karnataka (563) and Uttarakhand (560). BJP to take out 'Vijay Sankalp Yatra' in parts of MP ahead of polls

In the run-up to the assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh due by the year-end, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has decided to take out 'Vijay Sankalp Yatra' (victory resolution march) in parts of the state, a party functionary said. These yatras are likely to be taken out in September, but their schedule will be finalised and announced shortly, he said. The decision was taken during the four-hour long meeting of the BJP's core committee chaired by Union Home Minister and senior BJP leader Amit Shah late Wednesday night, the party functionary said. SC seeks ED's reply on Senthil Balaji's plea against HC order in PMLA case

The Supreme Court on Friday sought response from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on the pleas of Tamil Nadu Minister V Senthil Balaji and his wife Megala challenging the July 14 order of the Madras High Court upholding his arrest by the probe agency in a money laundering case. A bench of Justices A S Bopanna and M M Sundresh issued a notice to the ED on the pleas and posted the matter for hearing on July 26. MP govt transfers Rs 196.6 cr to 78,641 students for buying laptops

The Madhya Pradesh government on Thursday collectively transferred Rs 196.6 crore to the bank accounts of 78,641 students, who secured 75 per cent or above in the Class 12 exam conducted by the state board for purchasing laptops. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan clicked a button at an event here to initiate the process of transferring Rs 25,000 each to the students' accounts.
