The Aam Aadmi Party on Monday claimed to have collected signatures of more than 10 lakh Delhiites against the arrests of its leaders Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain. The signatures were collected during a door-to-door campaign launched by AAP on March 13 across Delhi to demand justice for the release of its senior leaders lodged in jail. Delhi Education Minister Atishi on Friday directed the officials to initiate action against private schools that allegedly forced parents of students to buy expensive books and uniforms from specific vendors. She said the violation of the Education Department guidelines on books and uniforms by private schools "will not be tolerated" and that strict action will be taken against such schools. "Private schools must either stop forcing parents to buy books and uniforms from specific sellers or be ready to face severe consequences. Violation of education department guidelines will not be tolerated," Atishi said. The Education Department had issued instructions to schools on March 17 to comply with the guidelines on sale of books and school uniforms. It said immediate notice must be issued stating the reasons in case of any complaint. The Delhi High Court on Thursday sought the CBI's response to jailed former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia's bail plea in the excise policy scam case being probed by the CBI. Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma issued a notice on the senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader's plea, which claimed he is "totally innocent" and a "victim of political witch-hunt", and asked the agency to state its stand. Special Judge MK Nagpal adjourned the hearing after Sisodia's counsel sought more time to prepare a detailed response to ED's submission on the bail plea. Sisodia moved the bail plea on Tuesday and the court sought the Enforcement Directorate's response by March 25. On Wednesday, after seven days of questioning by the ED, the court sent him to 14-day judicial custody. A Delhi court on Wednesday sent former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia to 14-day judicial custody in a money laundering case arising out of the excise policy matter. Special Judge M K Nagpal sent the senior AAP leader to jail till April 5 after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) produced him on conclusion of his custodial interrogation in the matter. The anti-money laundering probe agency has so far quizzed Sisodia for seven days in its custody in the matter. On Tuesday, the special court deferred the hearing to March 25 on the bail plea of Sisodia in the main case being probed by the CBI. The CBI on February 26 arrested Sisodia in connection with alleged corruption in the formulation and implementation of the now-scrapped Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22. The ED arrested Sisodia on March 9 in Tihar jail, where he was lodged in connection with the case being probed by the CBI.

Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Tuesday told a Delhi court he has cooperated with the CBI investigation into the excise scam case and none of the searches have revealed any incriminating material against him. Sisodia's counsel, while making submissions on the bail plea of the AAP leader, said his custodial interrogation was no longer required and he was not a flight risk.
