Maruti Suzuki aims to boost festive sales with November wedding surge

With a record October month behind, the country's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India is banking on a "few lakhs marriages" slated for November to carry forward the festive sales momentum, according to a senior company official. The company clocked retail sales of 2,02,402 units last month, which is its highest for any October month on the back of festive sales, breaking the previous record of 1,91,476 units posted in October 2020. "We are made to understand that some 'few lakhs' marriages are being planned across the country (in November). So we are pretty hopeful that it will also give us good traction in terms of our retail sales," Maruti Suzuki India Ltd Senior Executive Officer, Marketing and Sales, Partho Banerjee told PTI. Maruti Suzuki India expects its CNG car sales to rise over 30 per cent to around 6 lakh units this fiscal, according to a senior company official. The country's largest carmaker also aims to export around 3 lakh units in the ongoing financial year. "So CNG, this year, we did about 4,50,000 (units) in passenger vehicles. We are hoping to do something like 6,00,000 vehicles in FY24-25," Maruti Suzuki India Executive Director Corporate Affairs Rahul Bharti said in an analyst call. The company sells CNG trims across various models like WagonR, Brezza, Dzire, and Ertiga, among others in the domestic market. Bharti said the company's capacity expansion by around 1 lakh units per annum at its Manesar plant, Haryana largely addresses the Ertiga supply issues. Betting big on the entry-level segment, Maruti Suzuki India on Thursday said it will continue to "re-energise" the small car segment as the automaker expects the vertical to revive over the next few years, according to MD & CEO Hisashi Takeuchi. Passenger vehicle wholesales in India rose by 8.4 per cent year-on-year to 42,18,746 units in financial year 2023-24, industry body SIAM said on Friday. The overall passenger vehicle dispatches stood at 38,90,114 units in fiscal year 2022-23. Two-wheeler sales were up 13.3 per cent last fiscal at 1,79,74,365 units, as compared to 1,58,62,771 units in the financial year 2022-23. Vehicle sales across categories rose by 12.5 per cent to 2,38,53,463 units in the period under review, as against 2,12,04,846 units in fiscal year 2022-23.

Expect some impact on costs due to ongoing Red Sea crisis: Maruti Suzuki

Maruti Suzuki may see some increase in costs due to the rerouting of vessels amid the ongoing Red Sea crisis, according to a senior company official. The auto major, which exported around 2.7 lakh cars last calendar year, however, noted that it does not expect the issue to have a very big impact on the company's overseas shipments. "We are seeing some logistical challenges because of the Red Sea issue. And there may be some increase in costs because of risk or because of rerouting of vessels but it should not be significant," MSI Executive Officer (Corporate Affairs) Rahul Bharti said in an analyst call. The lead time of dispatches might change, and there may be some uncertainty in vessels coming and picking up their consignments, among others, he noted. Maruti launches compact format Nexa service workshops for non-urban areas

Maruti Suzuki India on Tuesday launched compact-format Nexa service workshops with plans to have 100 such outlets across the country by the end of next fiscal. Through this strategic move the auto major aims to bring the Nexa service experience to customers in non-urban centres, the company said in a statement. The first six centres inaugurated are strategically located in Ateli (Haryana), Charkhi Dadri (Haryana), Bankura (West Bengal), Dahod (Gujarat), Nirmal (Telangana), and Ooty (Tamil Nadu), it added. "With the growing similarities in consumer preferences in urban and non-urban centres, there is a notable increase in interest for our Nexa offerings from both regions," Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) Managing Director & CEO Hisashi Takeuchi stated. Almost 30 per cent of the Nexa sales come from non-urban centres, he added. "To cater to these customers, we are introducing these compact-format Nexa service workshops. Northern Railways helps Maruti export Jimny cars to African countries

Maruti Suzuki India has collaborated with Delhi Rail Division of Northern Railway to transport its Jimny cars to western ports through freight trains, which will be further transhipped in vessels to African nations, an official statement said. According to the statement, Sukhvinder Singh, Divisional Railway Manager, flagged off the first freight train with 98 cars on Tuesday from Farukhnagar station in Gurugram to Pipavav Port (West Coast) in the presence of the senior officials of Maruti as well as Delhi Rail Division. Hyundai expects SUVs to account for 65% of its total volumes in 2024

Hyundai Motor India expects sports utility vehicle sales to account for 65 per cent of its overall volumes in 2024, the company's COO Tarun Garg said. The company, which currently gets around 60 per cent of its overall volumes from SUV sales, plans to invest Rs 7,000 crore on its second plant at Talegaon, according to Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The company officials declined to comment. On Tuesday, the company strengthened its SUV portfolio with the introduction of the new version of its mid-sized sports utility vehicle Creta priced between Rs 10.99 lakh and Rs 19.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The company also plans to commence production at the newly acquired manufacturing plant at Talegaon plant in Maharashtra next year, Hyundai Motor India COO Tarun Garg said.
