TCS bans six employees, six staffing firms in hiring scam
TCS has taken action against six employees after finding them guilty of accepting favours from certain staffing firms in the appointment of contractual workers, Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran said on Thursday. The largest IT services exporter is investigating the role of three more of its employees, Chandrasekaran said while speaking at the TCS annual general meeting here. "We have banned six employees and also six companies," he said in response to questions from shareholders. He said the company received two separate whistleblower complaints -- one pertaining to appointment of business associates or contractual workers in the US, and one in India, in late February and March, after which it investigated the allegations. Chandrasekaran said he cannot quantify the favours these employees got but the banned employees behaved in such a way that they were favouring certain firms. Tata Consumer Products Ltd (TCPL) will see high growth in the domestic market, according to Chairman N Chandrasekaran, who also expressed the company's openness to acquisitions and expanding into new categories. India's business growth would continue to outpace that of the international market, with the percentage of revenue from the Indian market expected to increase, Chandrasekaran said replying to shareholders at the 60th AGM. India business has a higher margin, especially the branded businesses at around 14 per cent and international business at 11 per cent, the executive said. Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran on Tuesday said the conglomerate does not have any plans to have a 5G offering for consumers. He said the group, which exited its consumer-facing telecom service due to losses a few years ago, has concentrated its efforts on building modern technology infrastructure for 4G and 5G and is also investing in 6G.
