CDS calls for incorporating lessons from Op Sindoor into theatre model

Post Operation Sindoor, there are some "more lessons" that the armed forces have learned and it needs to be incorporated into the model of the planned theaterisation, Chief of the Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan said on Tuesday. In his remarks during an interaction at India Defence Conclave 2025, hosted by defence think-tank Bharat Shakti, he also said that "we should have our ISR (intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance) and kinetic operation capabilities across the length and breadth of Pakistan, that would be I think, new normal" post the decisive military operation conducted in May. He was asked what the new normal articulated by the government meant for the Indian military. "For armed forces, it should translate into new normal for us also. That would mean something like better operational preparedness, 24x7, that I think is very, very essential. We should be better prepared in our air defence, counter-UAS (Unmanned Aerial System), electronic warfare, that should be new ..

Op Sindoor shows deep China-Pak strategic bond: Ex-foreign secy Shringla

The military conflict during Operation Sindoor was indicative of a deeper China-Pakistan strategic partnership, former Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla said on Monday. He also noted that China's involvement has extended beyond defence supplies to include intelligence and diplomatic support, forming an 'all-weather' alliance intended to constrain India's rise. Shringla spoke on India's foreign policy and strategic affairs during an interaction organised by the Pune International Centre (PIC) and moderated by former Indian Ambassador to China Gautam Bambawale. He stated that India's foreign policy reflects a balance between realism and idealism, guided by developmental imperatives, strategic autonomy, and an inclusive global outlook. Shringla, who also served as India's Chief Coordinator for the G20 Presidency, shared his perspectives on India's evolving foreign policy, regional dynamics, and strategic priorities in a rapidly changing global order. The discussion spanned ...

Op Sindoor guided by strength of principles, technology, says Army chief

Army Chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi on Saturday said India fought with the combined strength of principles and technology during Operation Sindoor and did not target civilians or military installations in Pakistan. Speaking to reporters in Madhya Pradesh's Rewa district, Gen Dwivedi asserted that India only destroyed terrorist infrastructure in the neighbouring country. In response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting terrorist infrastructure in territories controlled by Pakistan. The strikes triggered four days of intense clashes that ended with an understanding on stopping the military actions on May 10. "Operation Sindoor was successful because we fought with the combined strength of our principles and technology. We made it a point that no innocent civilians in Pakistan suffered. We only targeted terrorists and their bosses," the Army chief said. All citizens should work for nation building to achieve the target of Viksit Bhara

Rajnath praises Indian Navy's deterrent role against Pakistan in Op Sindoor

The world witnessed the Indian Navy's strength during Operation Sindoor as its deterrent posture forced Pakistan to remain in the harbour or near its coast, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said on Thursday, hailing the force's combat readiness. In an address to the top naval commanders, Singh said Operation Sindoor was a symbol of India's capability and a message to the world that it is always ready to respond to every challenge. The defence minister commended the force for creating a "deterrent posture" during the operation that he said forced Pakistan to remain in the harbour or near its coast. Indian Navy's carrier battle group, submarines and aviation assets were deployed in the northern Arabian Sea in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack. The naval forces remained forward deployed with full readiness to strike select targets at sea and on land, including Karachi, during Operation Sindoor. The defence minister described the Indian Navy's presence in the Indian Ocean Regi

Pakistan still recuperating from severe blow: Rajnath Singh on Op Sindoor

Operation Sindoor was an "extraordinary" demonstration of tri-services synergy and Pakistan is still recuperating from the "severe blow" inflicted by India's military, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said on Wednesday. The operation reaffirmed India's resolve of devising coordinated, adaptive and preemptive strategies to deal with emerging national security challenges, he said. Singh was speaking at a book launch event. "Operation Sindoor witnessed extraordinary jointness and integration among the three services, and reaffirmed the government's resolve of devising coordinated, adaptive and preemptive defence strategies to deal with the challenges arising out of the changing world order and evolving methods of warfare," he said. The defence minister emphasised that traditional defence outlook is no longer sufficient in today's times as wars are fought not only on the borders, but have now taken a hybrid and asymmetrical form. He asserted that the government has undertaken several "b

Police worked in coordination with other forces during Op Sindoor: BSF DG

Director General of Border Security Force, Daljit Singh Chawdhary, on Friday said that police worked shoulder to shoulder with other security forces during 'Operation Sindoor'. Speaking after reviewing the passing out parade of the 77th (Regular Recruits) batch of the Indian Police Service (IPS) probationers at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) here, Chawdhary said in moments of great national challenge, the police do not stand alone. "We have seen this in operations like 'Sindoor' where the police worked shoulder to shoulder with the armed forces and the central armed police forces," he said. Such coordination is a reminder that the security of the nation is not the task of one institution but a collective effort, he said. In those moments, IPS officers often become the bridge binding the strength of the state with the trust of the people, ensuring that democracy survives in its toughest tests, Chawdhary said. From preventing and investigating crime to

Op Sindoor ensured devastation of Pak terror HQs, launchpads: Amit Shah

Operation Sindoor ensured the devastation of headquarters, training centres and launchpads of terrorist groups in Pakistan, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Tuesday. Addressing the 41st Raising Day of the anti-terror 'Black Cat' commando force National Security Guard (NSG) at its headquarters here, Shah also said that the government is going to set up a hub -- the sixth of the force -- in the temple town of Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh. "Operation Sindoor has ensured the devastation of Pakistani terror headquarters, their training centres and launchpads," he said. Under Operation Sindoor, the Indian defence forces targeted terror infrastructure and defence installations in Pakistan in May, following an attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam on April 22, which claimed 26 lives. The NSG is a federal contingency force under the Union home ministry. It was raised in 1984 and its 'Black Cat' commandos are tasked with specific counter-terrorist and counter-hijack operations apart from .

War is fought by entire nation, not just armed forces: CDS Gen Anil Chauhan

Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan on Monday asserted 'Operation Sindoor' against Pakistan in May created a "new matrix of decision and timing in warfare" and insisted a war is not fought by the armed forces alone, but by the entire nation. He said political leaders, diplomats and soldiers all play their respective roles at the time of a war. After Operation Sindoor, which saw Indian armed forces target terror hubs in Pakistan and PoK with precision air strikes, a new normal has emerged -- talks and terrorism cannot go hand in hand -- and the country cannot tolerate even the threat of a nuclear attack, General Chauhan affirmed. "Operation Sindoor created a new matrix of decision and timing in warfare. Many challenges still lie ahead for the armed forces. No war is fought by the armed forces alone; the whole nation fights it. Leaders, diplomats and soldiers know their roles," he said addressing students at the 128th Foundation Day celebrations of Scindia School in ...
