Cong wants Deve Gowda to contest from Bengaluru North:Gundurao
Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President Dinesh Gundurao on Friday said his party wants JDS Supremo H D Deve Gowda to contest elections from Bengaluru North constituency. "I spoke to Deve Gowda ji and requested him to contest from Bengaluru North constituency... Congress has five and JDS two MLAs, who can ensure his victory," he told PTI. Gundurao said the former prime minister's representation from Bengaluru North will have a huge impact in the region, given his stature in public life. The 85-year-old JDS patriarch is yet to decide on contesting the Lok Sabha polls and has been thinking about his "usefulness" in the national capital. While Pitroda questions action on terror, ED responds by action taken on terror funding
On a day when Congress leader Sam Pitroda questioned Narendra Modi government's action against terror, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) gave out a list of steps taken by it to curb terror-funding.Sources in ED said properties belonging to several terror financiers have been seized. They added at least 13 persons and their properties have been so far identified by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with the case and further probe in the matter is underway.The sources further revealed that the ED has already zeroed in on the proceeds of terror funding and has begun freezing and seizing such assets. Lankan Tamils for allowing foreign judges to probe war crimes
Sri Lanka's main Tamil party TNA on Friday called for allowing foreign judges and prosecutors to probe the alleged war crimes, a day after the UN Human Rights Council gave Colombo two more years to set up a credible investigation into the country's brutal civil war. Sri Lankan troops are accused of killing at least 40,000 ethnic Tamil civilians during former president Mahinda Rajapaksa's regime that brought an end to the three-decade long civil war with the LTTE in 2009, according to the UN. According to the government figures, around 20,000 people are missing due to various conflicts including the civil war with Lankan Tamils in the north and east which claimed at least 100,000 lives. Karnataka minister Shivalli dies of heart attack
Karnataka Municipal Administration Minister C S Shivalli died of heart attack at a hospital in Hubballi Friday, hospital sources said. Shivalli (56) complained of fever and vomiting following which he was admitted to the hospital, where he died at around 1.40 pm, they said. The three-time MLA from Kundgol in Dharwad district, once as an independent and twice from the Congress, had a history of heart disease, the sources said. Expressing grief, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy said Shivalli was with him till Thursday night and later, he got news about his death. At a party event in Hassan, he said "My cabinet colleague Shivalli was with me till 9 pm yesterday during my visit to the building collapse site in Dharwad." Shivalli, a Kuruba community leader, was considered among those close to former chief minister and Congress Legislature Party leader Siddaramaiah. He was inducted into the Kumaraswamy-led coalition Cabinet in December last year when it was expanded.
