Velingkar-led GSM to contest both LS seats in Goa

Former Goa RSS chief Subhash Velingkar on Wednesday said his political outfit will contest both the Lok Sabha seats in the state and will not support the BJP. The Goa Suraksha Manch (GSM) head also said that if elected, his party MPs would support Narendra Modi as prime minister at the Centre. "We will be fielding our candidates in both the Lok Sabha seats in Goa. The names of the candidates will be announced soon. If we win, our MPs will support Modi as prime minister," Velingkar told PTI. He, however, said his outfit will not support BJP Lok Sabha candidates in Goa as the saffron party's local leadership has "miserably failed" to take up the state's issues with the Centre. BJP leaders Shripad Naik and Narendra Sawaikar currently represent the North Goa and South Goa Lok Sabha seats, respectively. Besides, BJP state chief Vinay Tendulkar is a Rajya Sabha member. The GSM fought the 2017 Goa Assembly poll in alliance with the Shiv Sena and Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party.

Failure to designate Masood Azhar as global terrorist against regional stability, peace: US to China

The US has said that Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar meets the criteria to brand him as a "global terrorist" by the UN and China's opposition to the move to "update" the designation list went against the interests of Washington and Beijing in achieving regional stability and peace. State Department Deputy Spokesperson Robert Palladino's significant remarks came on the eve of a crucial decision by the UN Security Council on listing Azhar as a global terrorist. The Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), headed by 50-year-old Azhar, has carried out many terror strikes in India and was involved in the attack on Parliament, the Pathankot air force base, army camps in Jammu and Uri. It also claimed responsibility for the February 14 Pulwama suicide attack which left 40 CRPF personnel dead. In the aftermath of the Pulwama attack, three permanent members of the UNSC - the US, Britain and France - have moved a resolution to designate Azhar as a global terrorist under the 1267 Al Qaeda ...

India to ask Pak to insulate Sikh pilgrims visiting Kartarpur Gurdwara from Khalistani propaganda

India will ask Pakistan to insulate Sikh pilgrims visiting the Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib through the Kartarpur corridor from Khalistani separatist propaganda, official sources said. India will raise the issue during the first meeting with Pakistan to finalise the modalities for the Kartarpur corridor on Thursday. The meeting will take place on the Indian side of the Attari-Wagah border, they said. Last year in November, India had lodged a strong protest with Pakistan over the alleged harassment of Indian High Commission officials in Islamabad and the denial of access to Indian Sikh pilgrims visiting the country. India had also expressed "grave concern" over reports of attempts during the pilgrims' visit to "incite" communal disharmony and "promote secessionist tendencies" with an aim to undermine India's sovereignty and territorial integrity. There were reports that pro-Khalistan banners were shown to the Indian pilgrims while they were on their way to the two Sikh shrines.

BJP workers led by Union minister Vijay Goel Wednesday burnt the manifesto of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and a symbolic tower of its "failed" promises while accusing the ruling party of "cheating" the people of Delhi. The protest came ahead of AAP's scheduled event to torch BJP's manifesto to protest against it's "betrayal" on granting full statehood to Delhi. Hitting out at the Kejriwal government, Goel said,"We have torched this symbolic tower of failures and unfulfilled promises which cheated people of Delhi after making 70 promises to them before coming to power." Goel alleged that the Kejriwal government did not fulfil it's promises of developing unauthorised colonies, to make Delhi pollution free, opening 20 colleges, buying 10,000 buses and cleaning the Yamuna, among others. "They had promised to construct two lakh toilets in the slums but not even 200 have been constructed," Goel said addressing party workers at Jantar Mantar. Meaningfully address global concerns on terrorism, including cross-border attacks: India, US to Pak

India and the United States have asked Islamabad to "meaningfully address" the international community's concerns on terrorism, including that emanating from across the border from Pakistan. The concern was raised in an statement by the Indian Embassy here after Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale and his American counterpart Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs David Hale held Foreign Office Consultations here at the State Department, nearly a month after the Pulwama terror attack. "Both sides called on Pakistan to meaningfully address the concerns of the international community on terrorism, including cross-border terrorism," the statement said. Tensions between India and Pakistan flared up after a suicide bomber of the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terror group killed 40 Central Reserve Police Force personnel in Kashmir's Pulwama district on February 14. India has provided a dossier to Pakistan, detailing the role of JeM in the Pulwama terror attack. India has also ...
