Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma on Thursday directed officials to crackdown on the "mining mafia" in the state by conducting a five-day operation. Chairing a meeting of the mines and geology department here, he said preventing illegal mining, especially of gravel, is the priority of his government. Only strict and effective action will curb illegal mining in the state, Sharma stressed. He directed that a five-day joint campaign by police, district administrations, forest department, transport department and mines department be conducted to take strict action against the "mining mafia". Drones and other modern technology should be used to check illegal mining in the state, Sharma said. The chief minister also directed that a task force be formed under the chairmanship of the chief secretary to prevent illegal mining. Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma on Monday said power companies in the state have a debt of about 90,000 crore and a large portion of the budget is going towards repaying this debt. He said the state has immense natural resources in the field of renewable energy. "With proper policy formulation and implementation in this area, the Energy Department can generate resources and employment on a large scale for the development and bright future of the state," Sharma said. The government on Sunday said GST officers have detected 29,273 bogus firms involved in fake Input Tax Credit (ITC) claims of Rs 44,015 crore in eight months till December 2023 during a drive against fake registration, which helped save revenue of Rs 4,646 crore. In the October-December quarter, 4,153 bogus firms that involved suspected ITC evasion of around Rs 12,036 crore were detected. As many as 2,358 of these bogus firms were detected by the Central GST Authorities. Maharashtra topped the list with 926 bogus firms detected, followed by Rajasthan (507), Delhi (483) and Haryana (424). The detection during the December quarter protected revenue of Rs 1,317 crore of which Rs 319 crore has been realised and Rs 997 crore has been protected by blocking ITC. As many as 41 persons were arrested in these cases while 31 of these arrests were made by Central GST Authorities, the finance ministry said. SJVN Green Energy Ltd has signed a pact with Uttarakhand Power Corporation Ltd (UPCL) to supply 200 MW solar power from a 1,000 MW Bikaner project in Rajasthan. State-owned SJVN, through its wholly-owned subsidiary SJVN Green Energy Ltd (SGEL) has signed a Power Usage Agreement (PUA) with UPCL. The solar project is being developed by SJVN through SGEL in Rajasthan under CPSU (Central Public Sector Undertaking) scheme of IREDA (Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency), a statement said on Friday. The development cost of the project, which is under construction, is Rs 5,491 crore. It is being developed under the domestic content requirement mode and is scheduled to be commissioned by April 2024. The power generated from the project will be used by government entities, either directly or through discoms. In a virtual review meeting, Fisheries Secretary Abhilaksh Likhi said Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh should focus on adopting shrimp aquaculture in identified 25 districts to generate employment and livelihood. The four states should include the project proposals for development of their saline affected areas in the Annual Action Plan for the next year for requisite support under a central scheme. "Saline affected areas are not suitable for agriculture. However, there is huge potential to convert these saline affected areas into aquaculture areas," an official statement said. Armies of India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Tuesday kick started the inaugural edition of a two-week military exercise in Rajasthan's Mahajan area, reflecting the growing defence engagement between the two countries. The exercise 'Desert Cyclone' is aimed at enhancing interoperability in sub-conventional operations in desert and semi-desert terrains under the broader framework of UN charter on peacekeeping operations, the Indian Army said. It is for the first time that the two armies are holding such a mega military exercise. It will culminate on January 15. The UAE contingent is being represented by troops from the 'Zayed First Brigade'. The Indian Army team comprising 45 personnel is mainly from the Mechanised Infantry Regiment.
