Hitting back at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for mentioning Rajasthan in his statement on the Manipur incident, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Saturday said he has "hurt the self respect" of Rajasthan. While condemning the incident of Manipur where two women were paraded naked and molested, Modi on Thursday made a reference to states like Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh in context of law and order. Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge and party leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will address a public meeting in Rajasthan's Banswara district on August 9, its state in-charge Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa said on Friday. August 9 is celebrated as 'Adivasi Day' and preparations are underway for the public meeting, he said. Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, will come to Banswara to address people from the tribal communities, Randhawa told reporters. The Rajasthan government has waived off loans worth Rs 409.60 crore of 59,983 farmers in the last three years, Cooperative Minister Udayalal Anjana told the state assembly on Thursday. In a written reply to a question by MLA Gopal Lal Meena, the minister said state government schemes waived off loans taken by farmers through the Central Cooperative Banks and Primary Cooperative Land Development Banks. The loan waiver schemes include Rajasthan Farmers Loan Waiver Scheme 2019 (short term) and Rajasthan Farmers Loan Waiver Scheme 2019 (medium and long term), Anjana said. He also said that nationalised banks are under the control of the central government and the decision to waive farmers' loans taken through them can be taken by the Centre.
The Congress on Thursday set up a 29-member Pradesh Election Committee for poll-bound Rajasthan with state unit chief Govind Singh Dotasra named as its chairman. About 30 children were shifted to safety after a fire broke out at JK Lon Hospital here, officials said on Tuesday. The hospital staff noticed smoke emanating from the AC duct line of two wards where the children were admitted Monday night, they said. "Resident doctors and nursing staff immediately sounded alert and 30 children admitted to two wards were shifted to other wards of the hospital," hospital Superintendent Dr Kailash Meena said. No casualty or injury was reported in the incident, he added. Meena said the hospital staff managed to douse the fire themselves with the help of the firefighting equipment. He said a committee will be formed to investigate the matter as the children's ward was recently constructed. Necessary action will be taken if lapses are found, he added.
The Rajasthan government has received Rs 1,024.4 crore as green tax in the last five years, the state assembly was told on Monday. Addressing members in the Rajasthan assembly in a written reply, Minister of State for Transport Brijendra Singh Ola said the government received Rs 1,024.4 crore green tax between 2018-19 and 2022-23. Replying to a question by BJP MLA Satish Poonia, Ola said the figure was available as per the accounts prepared after tallying the numbers with figures received from the Accountant General. Of the 33 districts in the state, 14 districts witnessed 'abnormal' rainfall while as many received 'excess' rains so far this monsoon season, according to official data released on Sunday. All but one district of Rajasthan has received normal or above normal rainfall this monsoon so far, a report issued here by the Water Resources Department showed. Only Jaisalmer witnessed 'scanty' rainfall with rains 60 per cent less than normal, the report said. A total of 14 districts, including the state capital Jaipur, are in the 'abnormal rainfall' category and as many recorded 'excess rainfall', while four districts received normal rainfall, according to the report. The districts which receive 20 to 59 per cent more than the normal fall under the 'excess' category while districts recording 60 per cent or more rains are under the 'abnormal' category, the report cited. Fifteen of Rajasthan's 33 districts have received abnormal' rainfall this Monsoon season so far while there is no district under deficit rainfall category, according to official data. However, Jaisalmer is falling under scanty' rainfall category (-60 per cent or less), according to a report from the water resources department. At the same time, due to widespread rainfall, water storage in 690 dams in the state is 58.09 per cent of the total capacity of 12580.03 mqm as on July 15, which was 43.67 per cent in the corresponding period last year. A person died and around 30 schoolchildren were injured when their bus overturned in Rajasthan's Jaisalmer district on Wednesday, police said. The bus was ferrying the students to their school when the accident occurred near Pokhran town, they said. "The driver lost control of the vehicle and it overturned," Assistant Sub Inspector of Sankra police station (Jaisalmer) Kailash Chand said. He said many of the injured students were rushed to a hospital in Jaipur while some were admitted to a local medical facility. Chand further said that the parents of some other children took them to private hospitals. The ASI said the students were in the age group of 10-15 years. The bus driver was also injured in the accident, he added. Jodhpur Collector Himanshu Gupta said 11 schoolchildren were brought to Jodhpur for treatment from Jaisalmer and all were stated to be out of danger, but a staffer, identified as Vikram Singh, succumbed to injuries.
