Court summons Rajasthan CM Gehlot in defamation complaint by Sekhawat

A Delhi court on Thursday summoned Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot in a defamation complaint filed by the Union Minister Gajendra Singh Sekhawat. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Harpreet Singh directed Gehlot to appear before court on August 7 in the complaint filed by Shekhawat for allegedly defaming him with his remarks on the alleged Sanjivani scam. The case is related to thousands of investors allegedly getting duped of about Rs 900 crore by the Sanjivani Credit Cooperative Society. Shekhawat has alleged in his complaint that Gehlot has been making defamatory remarks against him over the alleged scam and trying to tarnish his image and affect his political career.

'Rajasthan records highest rainfall in month of June in 123 years'

Rajasthan recorded the highest rainfall in the month of June in 123 years, an official said on Tuesday. The state received a total rainfall of 156.9 mm in June, which was 185 per cent more than the average, and the highest rainfall recorded in the month since 1901, Radheshyam Sharma, Director of Jaipur Meteorological Department, said. In 1996, the maximum rainfall recorded in June was at 122.8 mm, he added. East Rajasthan received 118 per cent more rainfall than average while west Rajasthan received 287 per cent more rainfall than average in the month of June, Sharma said. He said due to the impact of the very severe cyclonic storm "Biparjoy", heavy rain and thundershowers occurred in the southern parts of the state -- Jalore, Pali, Barmer, Rajsamand Sirohi and Ajmer districts -- from June 16-20. REC to provide Rs 4,785 cr loan for refinery project in Rajasthan

State-owned REC Ltd on Tuesday said it will provide a loan of Rs 4,785 crore to HRRL's project in Rajasthan. HRRL is a joint venture between Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) and Rajasthan government. HPCL holds 74 per cent equity stake in HRRL. "REC extends Rs 4,785 crore for HPCL Rajasthan Refinery's project in Barmer. HRRL has executed a loan agreement under consortium arrangement for Rs 48,625 crore wherein the share of state-run REC Ltd is Rs 4,785 crore," REC said in a statement. HRRL is setting up a green field refinery cum petrochemical complex, with a capacity of 9 MMTPA at a project cost of Rs 72,937 crore. The project includes setting up of an energy efficient and environment friendly refinery cum petrochemical complex, crude and product storage facilities, township and allied facilities and utilities, a captive power plant for meeting refinery power and steam requirement. It will be producing clean fuels such as BS-VI grade Motor Sprit (MS or Petrol) & BS-VI .

Raj to bring Bill provisioning life imprisonment for recruitment paper leak

The Rajasthan government will bring a Bill in the next assembly session to increase the punishment for those involved in recruitment exam paper leaks from the current 10 years to life imprisonment, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said on Tuesday. In March 2022, the assembly passed a Bill providing for imprisonment of up to 10 years and a fine of Rs 10 crore for offences such as government exam paper leaks and cheating in such recruitment tests. This came a month after the REET level-two examination held in September 2021 was cancelled due to a paper leak. "It has been decided to bring a Bill in the upcoming assembly session to make life imprisonment the maximum punishment under the law against paper leaks," Gehlot said in a tweet in Hindi on Tuesday. "In order to bring more transparency in competitive examinations in the state, the chief secretary has been directed to prepare a better process after discussing with the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC), Department of Personnel .

The Rajasthan government will be roping in social media influencers to publicise its welfare work on social media ahead of the upcoming assembly election. The Ashok Gehlot-led government in a notification on June 26 said that in addition to the print and electronic media, social media influencers will now be hired to advertise the government's works. According to the notification, the influencers will be paid up to 5 lakh per month depending on a variety of parameters, including the number of followers they have and the material they post. Raj cabinet discusses formation of new districts announced in state budget

Discussions regarding the formation of new districts announced in the Rajasthan budget 2023-24 were held in a cabinet meeting here on Friday evening. Decisions on recitation of Preamble and fundamental duties of the Constitution in schools, first increment in the interest of the employees in six months, more opportunities to the youth of the state in government service were also taken in the meeting chaired by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot. The cabinet discussed the report presented by the Ramlubhaya Committee, which was formed to look into the demands of new districts, as well as memorandums received from different areas after the announcements of new districts. Govt approves issuance of 27th tranche of electoral bonds, sale from July 3

The government on Friday approved the issuance of the 27th tranche of electoral bonds that will open for sale on July 3. The decision comes ahead of assembly elections of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Mizoram. Poll dates are likely to be announced in a couple of months. Electoral bonds have been pitched as an alternative to cash donations made to political parties as part of efforts to bring transparency to political funding. State Bank of India (SBI), in the 27th phase of sale, has been authorised to issue and encash electoral bonds through 29 authorised branches from July 3-12, the finance ministry said in a statement. The sale of the first batch of electoral bonds happened on March 1-10, 2018. The authorised SBI branches include those in Bengaluru, Lucknow, Shimla, Dehradun, Kolkata, Guwahati, Chennai, Patna, New Delhi, Chandigarh, Srinagar, Gandhinagar, Bhopal, Raipur and Mumbai.
