Jio adds 34 more cities to True 5G network, service expands to 365 cities

Reliance Jio Infocomm has added 34 more cities, including eight from Tamil Nadu to its True 5G network, taking the total number of the service offering to 365. Ambur, Chidambaram, Namakkal, Pudukottai, Ramanathapuram, Sivakasi, Tiruchengode and Villupuram in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry were covered in the latest round of network addition exercise undertaken by the company, the telecom major said on Wednesday. In January, the 5G services were formally rolled out in Coimbatore, Madurai, Tiruchirappalli, Salem, Hosur and Vellore in addition to the facility already available in Chennai. The company had said that it has invested Rs 40,446 crore in Tamil Nadu. Reliance Jio announces new postpaid 'Jio Plus' for family of four

India's largest telecom operator Reliance Jio on Tuesday introduced a new set of postpaid family plans Jio Plus, wherein a family of four can to try services free of cost for a month. The 'Rs 399 plan' offers up to three add-on connections for the family. It packs 75 GB data, with additional 3 add-on connections at Rs 99 per SIM. "...Total monthly charge of only Rs 696 for a family of 4... effective monthly charge of Rs 174 per SIM," Jio said in a release. JioThings partners with EESL to deploy 1 mn smart prepaid meters in Bihar

JioThings Smart Utility Platform, an IoT (Internet of Things) solution of JioThings, has partnered with Energy Efficiency Services Limited to deploy 1 million smart prepaid meters in Bihar along with French electric utility firm EDF, according to a release. Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) is the joint venture of leading Public Sector Enterprises under the Ministry of Power, set up by the government to facilitate energy efficiency projects and to work as energy service company. Reliance Jio buys US-based Mimosa Networks for $60 mn to bolster 5G tech

Jio Platforms, the digital arm of Reliance Industries Ltd, will buy communications equipment maker Mimosa Networks for USD 60 million as it looks to bolster its 5G telecom and broadband services. Radisys Corporation, a subsidiary of Jio Platforms, signed a definitive agreement with US-based Airspan Networks Holdings for acquisition of "Mimosa Networks for USD 60 million on a debt free, cash free basis," the companies said in a statement. While Jio Platforms is the owner of India's biggest telecom firm, Reliance Jio Infocomm, Mimosa has a portfolio of point-to-multi-point products based on WiFi-5 and the newer WiFI 6E technologies as well as related accessories. "These solutions have use cases in the backhaul requirements for 5G and FTTX/ FWA rollouts," the statement said. "Jio has been a major customer of Mimosa." Jio extends 5G coverage to 27 more cities, now covers 331 cities across India

New Delhi, Mar 8 (PTU) Reliance Jio, the country's largest telecom operator, on Wednesday announced the launch of its 5G services in 27 more cities of 13 states and union territories to extend its network of ultra high-speed telephony to 331 cities across India.

Jio True 5G is now available in 27 additional cities in states like Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and West Bengal, the company said in a statement.

Starting March 8, 2023, Jio users in these 27 cities will be invited to the Jio Welcome Offer, to experience unlimited data at up to 1 Gbps speeds, at no additional cost, it said.

Its billionaire chairman Mukesh Ambani had previously announced that Jio's 5G services will cover the entire country by the end of 2023.

Jio to become world's largest 5G network with affordable services: Oommen

India's biggest telecom operator Reliance Jio expects to become the world's largest player having a pure 5G network this year with promise to provide services at affordable rates to the masses, a senior official of the company said here. Speaking to the PTI at the Mobile World Congress, Reliance Jio President Mathew Oommen said India needs inclusive growth and Jio will continue to support it. "Jio will be the largest 5G SA (standalone) only network operator in the world in the second half of 2023, ensuring that all advanced services and capabilities are available affordably to the masses," Oommen said. Telecom operator Airtel reaches 1 mn customer mark on 5G network in Mumbai

Telecom operator Bharti Airtel on Thursday announced that it has surpassed the 1 million 5G user mark on its network in Mumbai. Airtel recently crossed the 10 million unique customer mark on its 5G network nationally. The Sunil Mittal-led telco said it is well poised to cover every town and key rural areas with Airtel 5G services by end of March 2024. Bharti Airtel to hike mobile services rates across all plans this year

Bharti Airtel is looking to raise mobile phone call and data rates across all plans this year, telecom firm's Chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal said here. The company last month increased the price of its minimum recharge or the entry-level for the 28-day mobile phone service plan by about 57 per cent to Rs 155 in eight circles. Responding to a PTI query on the need for a tariff hike when the company's balance sheet is healthy, he said the return on capital in the telecom business is very low and a tariff hike is expected this year. "It (tariff hike) will happen across the board," Mittal said at Mobile World Congress (MWC) here on Monday. He said the company has injected a lot of capital that has made the balance sheet strong but the return on capital in the industry is very low. "That needs to change.
