Several shanties were gutted after a massive fire broke out in a cluster of jhuggis in the Shahbad Daulatpur area close to Rohini's Sector 18 on Sunday evening, officials said. According to the police, about 40 to 45 temporary huts in Bengali Basti, Shahbad Daulatpur, were engulfed in flames. Firefighters were seen extinguishing the blaze while standing on piles of bricks from the destroyed shanties, with thick smoke filling the air. The fire lit up the night sky across the stretch of land, while teams of the Delhi Fire Service, police and other concerned authorities remained on the site overseeing the firefighting and relief measures. Four people died and at least three injured in a fire that erupted in a chemical factory in Rithala area of Delhi's Rohini, police said on Wednesday. The fire broke out at the five-storey building in Rohini Sector-5 area on Tuesday and 16 fire tenders were rushed to douse the blaze, the fire department said. Delhi Fire Services chief Atul Garg said the incident was reported from a premises located near Rithala Metro Station. A major fire broke out in a pathology laboratory in north Delhi's Rohini late last night, the fire department said on Monday. No one was reported injured. Officials said that the fire broke out on the third and fourth floor of a building which housed the pathology lab. The fire was reported to the department around 12.45 am. "Total 10 fire engines were rushed to the spot immediately. It took more than two hours to douse the flames completely. The fire was near the lift shaft. Ten mobile phones, data cables and some tobacco were recovered from the Rohini Jail here, officials said on Tuesday. The recovery was made from central jail number 10, they said. On Monday, central jail number-10 staff noticed that some object had been thrown inside the jail. The suspicious objects were tightly packed in two juice packets. When the packet were opened, 10 mobile phones, four data cables and 75 grams tobacco were recovered, a senior official said. Further probe revealed that the packets were thrown from outside the jail, they said. The matter has been reported to the police for further investigation, they added. On March 9, prison officials had recovered 23 surgical blades, drugs, two smartphones and a SIM card among other things from the possession of one inmate in Tihar's Central Jail number 3.
