The general insurers will have to provide details about crop insurance claims to farmers in vernacular languages, apart from Hindi and English, regulator Irdai has said. The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (Irdai) said it has been receiving various complaints and suggestions in respect of crop insurance claims. Irdai, in a circular, said there is a need for effective implementation of crop insurance schemes. Insurance companies should put in place a robust system to register all the requests of individuals loss assessment, and if an individual loss assessment is rejected, a written rejection letter mentioning the reason should be sent to insured, Irdai said. "Insurers should ensure that all call centres/toll-free numbers responses should be available in state's official language other than Hindi and English. The Central Information Commission has directed the country's census body, the Registrar General of India, to furnish an affidavit declaring that it does not collect data relating to the Other Backward Classes population of the country. The last caste-based census in the country had taken place in 1931 based on which the V P Singh government had announced 27 per cent reservation for OBCs. Several groups have been demanding caste-based census to press for their demands of proportionate representation in government services. A 37-year-old man was arrested for allegedly abducting a woman from Outer Delhi's Mundka and sexually assaulting her in Haryana, police said Sunday. Sonu, a native of Jhajjar, Haryana, had contacted the victim on the pretext of doing her bridal make up, they said. During interrogation, Sonu disclosed that he came in contact with the victim's brother and took her mobile number after persuading him for the bridal make up of his sister on Saturday, a senior police officer said. When the victim reached Tikri Kalan metro station, Sonu abducted her and took her to some unknown place in Haryana where he sexually assaulted her in his car and also threatened her of dire consequences if she revealed it to someone, the officer said. The victim later called her husband who informed the police at Mundka, he said. Police then tracked the victim through the mobile phone call location. The bodies of a man and a teenage girl were Sunday fished out from the Sabarmati River near Ambedkar Bridge here, a day after they allegedly committed suicide, police said. Kamlesh Parmar (26), a resident of Vijapur in Mehsana district, and Shweta Parmar (16), hailing from Danilimda locality here, had jumped into the river on Saturday, a Sabarmati Riverfront West police station official said. "They were identified by the identity cards recovered from Kamlesh. No suicide note has been recovered. Prima facie, it appears the couple entered into a suicide pact and jumped into the river after tying each other's hands with a handkerchief," he said. He said the couple took the extreme step apparently as their parents had opposed their marriage, adding that a probe into the incident was underway.
