Viraj Profiles with Avaada Energy to set up 100 MW solar plant in Maha

Stainless steel maker Viraj Profiles along with Avaada Energy will set up a 100 MW solar project in Tarapur, Maharashtra. The aim is to make the captive project operational by February 2024, Viraj Profiles said in a statement on Friday. The company did not disclose financial details of the project. According to industry estimates, an investment of about Rs 5 crore is required to set up every 1 MW of solar capacity. Once commissioned, the plant will generate about 207 million units of green energy per year, which will offset approximately 182 million kilos of CO2, the statement said. "Viraj Profiles along with Avaada Energy shall set up a special purpose vehicle (SPV) to build the 100 MW captive solar plant," it said. The power generated will be used for captive consumption by Viraj Profiles' stainless steel unit in Tarapur, reducing its dependence on conventional sources by 50 per cent.

Tata Power Renewable Energy signs PPA with TPDDL for 510 MW hybrid project

Tata Power Renewable Energy has signed an agreement with Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd (TPDDL) to supply electricity from its 510 MW solar-wind hybrid project, a statement said on Friday. It is one of the largest hybrid projects in the country with the capacity bifurcation of 170 MW solar & 340 MW wind power. The project will save an average of 1540 MUs (million units) of CO2 emissions annually for Tata Power-DDL, a joint venture between Tata Power and the Government of Delhi, that supplies electricity to a populace of over 7 million in North Delhi, the statement said. The power purchase agreement signed between Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd and TPDDL has the capacity bifurcation of 170 MW solar and 340 MW wind power. Located in Karnataka, it is one of the largest hybrid projects in the country and will be commissioned within 24 months from the PPA execution date. Amplus Solar to set up 200 MWp wind, solar hybrid project at Tuticorin

Clean energy solutions provider Amplus Solar on Friday announced an association with EverRenew, an NTC group company, to set up a 200 MWp open-access solar power plant at Tuticorin, in Tamil Nadu. The 200MWp plant is expected to generate approximately 450 million units of green electricity in the first year of its operation itself, a company statement stated. The wind-solar hybrid plant in Tamil Nadu is Amplus' second open-access project in the state, it said. "We are happy to set up our first wind and solar hybrid with an experienced partner, EverRenew, in the state. "Wind-solar hybrids have vast potential in enhancing grid stability, and we look forward to setting up more such projects across the country in the coming years," Sharad Pungalia, MD and CEO of Amplus Solar, said. Domestic solar capacity addition grows 27% in 2022: Mercom report

Solar capacity installations in India increased by 27 per cent to 13 gigawatts (GW) during the calendar year 2022, according to a Mercom India report. "Solar capacity made up 82 per cent of the total 16 GW new power generation capacities added in 2022," the report titled 'Mercom India Solar Market Update' said. India added 13 gigawatts (GW) of solar capacity in the calendar year (CY) 2022, a 27 per cent increase year-on-year (y-o-y) compared to 10.2 GW installed in CY 2021, it added. The country's cumulative installed solar capacity now stands at 63 GW, the report said. During 2022, large-scale solar projects accounted for 87 per cent of the installations. However, in October-December 2022, India added 2.6 GW of solar, down 5 per cent from 2.8 GW a year ago, it said. India's non-fossil power generation touches 174 GW in 2022: R K Singh

India's non-fossil fuel-based power generation capacity was at 174.53 gigawatt (GW) at the end of December 31, 2022, Parliament was informed on Tuesday. The country's total power generation capacity, including 235.81 GW from the thermal base, was at 410 GW at the end of 2022, Minister for Power, New and Renewable Energy R K Singh said in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha. "So far, a total of 174.53 GW power generation capacity from non-fossil fuel-based energy resources has been installed in the country as on 31.12.2022," he said. The capacity includes 63.30 GW solar power, 46.85 GW large hydro, 41.93 GW wind power, 10.73 GW bio power, 4.94 GW small hydro power and 6.78 GW nuclear power. In another reply, the minister said 2,97,609 million units (MU) energy from various sources of renewable energy in the April-December period of 2022-23. Installation of open access solar capacity in India increased by 91 per cent to 596 megawatt (MW) during the July-September period, according to Mercom Research India. India added 312 MW of solar open access capacity in the same period a year ago, the research firm said in a report on Thursday. Solar power through open access is an arrangement where a power producer establishes a solar power plant to supply green energy to consumers. In the first nine months (9M) of 2022, India added about 1.9 gigawatts (GW) of open access solar, an increase of 96 per cent from the 956 megawatts (MW) installed in January-September of 2021, the report titled 'Mercom India Solar Open Access Market Report Q3 2022' said. According to the report, as of September 2022, the total installed solar capacity in the open access segment was over 7 GW, and the pipeline of projects under development and pre-construction phase is over 5 GW. Allied Blenders and Distillers (ABD) on Wednesday said it plans to source 70 per cent of its power consumption from solar energy in the next financial year. In FY22, ABD's units consumed approximately 27 lakh units of electricity from local electricity boards. "Allied Blenders and Distillers (ABD) Ltd, India's largest domestic alcobev company, announced that it is aiming to replace 70 per cent of the power with renewable solar power in the next financial year (FY'24)," a company statement said.
