India beat Pakistan 3-1 at Asian Champions Trophy hockey

India continued its dominance over arch-rivals Pakistan with a 3-1 win to register their second consecutive win at the Asian Champions Trophy hockey tournament here on Saturday. India had defeated Pakistan 4-0 in the final edition of the Champions Trophy earlier in the year before registering a close 2-1 win over the arch-rivals in the Jakarta Asian Games. But it was Pakistan who stunned the Indians by taking the lead as early as in the opening minute of the match through Muhammad Irfan Junior's strike. India, however, came back into the match in the second quarter when skipper Manpreet Singh (24th minute) drew parity for his side as both the teams went into the breather locked at 1-1. India took the lead in the 33rd minute through a field strike from Mandeep Singh. The Indians extended their lead to 3-1 when striker Dilpreet Singh scored another field goal in the 42nd minute. Thereafter, the Indians defended in numbers as Pakistani forwards failed to breach the rival backline. It was

Paes says not yet decided when to retire

Veteran Indian tennis player Leander Paes Saturday said that he's enjoying his game and yet to decide on when to call it quits. "How long am I going to play? As long as I enjoy it. Will I retire by the end of the year? I don't know, we will see it at the end of the year," Paes said when asked about the road ahead for him. "As far I am concerned, I am still enjoying my tennis. Now, I have achieved everything that's there to achieve. I don't have anything to prove to anybody out there," said the 45-year-old multiple Grand Slam winner. Paes admitted that the last few years have been tough for him but said he was playing on his own terms. "I love my tennis, I have been playing for that many years. I hope I have brought happiness to people over the years. Now, I am playing because I enjoy it and I am playing it on my terms. I think the last few years have been very tough both on and off the court. For me, tennis brings a lot of happiness," he said. He said the new format of the Davis Cup ..

Man City turn on style as last-gasp Chelsea deny Man United

Manchester City brushed aside Burnley 5-0 to pull clear at the top of the Premier League on Saturday after Chelsea snatched a point in a dramatic late finish against Manchester United. City's win gives them a two-point cushion over Chelsea and Tottenham -- 1-0 winners at West Ham -- but Liverpool will join them on 23 points if they beat Huddersfield in the late kick-off. Pep Guardiola's side, who missed a late penalty to beat Liverpool at Anfield earlier this month, made it seven wins from nine league games as Burnley goalkeeper Joe Hart endured a miserable return to his former club at the Etihad. Sergio Aguero opened the scoring in the 17th minute before second-half goals rained in from Bernardo Silva, Fernandinho, Riyad Mahrez and Leroy Sane. With the defending champions slipping ominously into gear, midfielder Kevin De Bruyne came on for just his second appearance of the season following a knee injury he suffered in August. "After we scored the second goal and third it was much ...

Delhi Dynamos snatch a point with a late goal against Kerala Blasters

Delhi Dynamos struck a late goal to hold Kerala Blasters to a 1-1 draw in their Indian Super League football match at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here on Saturday. A 48th minute strike from C K Vineeth was cancelled out by Andrija Kaluderovic's 84th minute header as Delhi's run of scoring a goal extended to 14 matches. Amidst a heavy downpour in Kochi, the visitors took control of the game in the first quarter with Kerala struggling to get hold of possession. Lallianzuala Chhangte, in particular, was looking threatening down the left flank for the Dynamos and his duel with Sandesh Jhingan was proving to be an intriguing affair. Against the run of play, the hosts came close to grabbing the lead in the 22nd minute. A quick breakaway and a neat one-two between Stojanovic and Sahal Abdul Samad saw the Serbian striker unleash a shot on the Delhi goal. Goalkeeper Francisco Dorronsoro was, however, alert enough to deal with the danger. A mistake from goalkeeper Naveen Kumar moments later ...
