Pogba takes aim at Mourinho's negative tactics

Paul Pogba launched a blistering critique of Manchester United's defensive-minded tactics in Saturday's draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers, which is likely to infuriate manager Jose Mourinho. The 25-year-old French World Cup winning midfielder said there were no excuses for not attacking in home games. The draw -- played out in front of legendary former manager Alex Ferguson who made his first appearance at a match since undergoing emergency brain surgery in May -- left United in seventh, eight points behind leaders Liverpool. "We are at home and we should play much better against Wolves. We are here to attack," Pogba told the media after the match. "When we play like (that) it's easier for us." Asked what is stopping United attacking more, Pogba said: "I can't tell you because I'm a player. It's not me." Pogba's criticism comes shortly after it appeared that he and Mourinho were mending their rift, with the Portuguese manager saying on Friday that success at the World Cup had sparked

England's Adil Rashid agrees new county cricket deal

England leg-spinner Adil Rashid has agreed a new one-year contract to play for Yorkshire in all formats of cricket. The 30-year-old was on a limited-overs-only deal with his county for the 2018 season. Rashid's Headingley future had been shrouded in doubt after he was controversially selected in England's Test squad for the recent series against India, despite his self-imposed exile from first-class cricket. Rashid was told by England national selector Ed Smith that he must be available across the board from the start of the 2019 English season to be considered for Test cricket. "I think we've been clear from the outset that we wanted to keep Adil at the club," said Yorkshire director of cricket Martyn Moxon. "When it became known he had to have a red-ball contract, we were more than happy to put that in place." Rashid, who has played 15 Tests and 73 one-day internationals, began his career with Yorkshire in 2006 and has taken 500 first-class wickets. Moxon admitted he was unsure ...

Harry Kane admits he has been below par for Tottenham

Harry Kane admits he has fallen below his own high standards this season but said he welcomes the intense public scrutiny of his game. The Tottenham striker ended a five-game goalless run for club and country when he put his side ahead from the penalty spot in a 2-1 win at Brighton -- a result that also ended a three-game losing streak for Spurs. Kane converted a first-half penalty in typically cool fashion to take him level with Jermain Defoe on 143 goals for the club. The fitness and form of the England captain has been a hot topic in recent weeks, with suggestions he has looked jaded, but he seemed closer to his best at Brighton. "I would 100 percent rather have the focus than not have it," Kane said of the analysis of his form by fans and media. "I have scored three goals this season, which is not terrible. Obviously when you set standards in other seasons and other games, people will talk if you do not reach them and I am the first to analyse my game and see what I could do ...

Subcontinent not really our strength, admits Lyon

Australian bowler Nathon Lyon has admitted that playing in subcontinent conditions is not really their strength. The comment came ahead of their tour match against Pakistan A on September 29, which will serve as a forerunner to Australia's two-match Test series against Pakistan beginning October 7 in Dubai. The 30-year-old, however, added that he would look to have a successful campaign in the series."We know as the Australian cricket team, it hasn't really been our strength, the subcontinent," the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Lyon, as saying."I know personally, I'm looking to really turn that success around for the Australian cricket side," he added.Reflecting on his strategy ahead of the Pakistan series, Lyon said that he would find a way to hit the stumps. The Pakistani batsmen attacked me the last time we played and I am expecting the same kind of treatment here as well, he continued."You have to find a way to hit the stumps, and that may be bowling square or round-arm, whatever it .

Serena keen to 'move on' from US Open row

Serena Williams says she is trying to "move on" from the meltdown that overshadowed her US Open final loss but remains perplexed at her coach's admission he illegally signalled to her. The 23-time Grand Slam champion lost the decider in straight sets to Japan's Naomi Osaka after a fiery confrontation with chair umpire Carlos Ramos that she later blamed on sexism. Williams called Ramos a "thief" and a "liar" in a running row with the Portuguese official that eventually saw her docked a game. In an interview with Australia's Channel Ten, the American superstar said a male player would not have been treated the same way. She said women could not get away with "even half of what a guy can do". "Right now we are not, as it's proven, in that same position," she said in an interview that aired late Sunday. "But that's neither here nor there. I'm just trying most of all to recover from that and move on." Williams said she felt "on the cusp of this amazing moment" before the 6-2, 6-4 loss to ..

Column: Tiger Woods is back, and golf is better for it

They had waited more than five years for this moment. No way were those frail little ropes, strung up on flimsy poles, going to hold them back. No way were they listening to those red-shirted marshals, a bit of terror in their eyes as they pleaded futilely for everyone to come to their senses. They had to feel it, touch it, see it with their own eyes. Maybe that was the only way to persuade themselves that this most remarkable of comebacks had actually happened. Tiger Woods. A winner again. The staid ol' Tour Championship became a boisterous street party late Sunday afternoon, the fans storming down the middle of the 18th fairway like a bunch of crazed college kids laying siege to a football field after a last-second victory. "Tiger! Tiger! Tiger!" they chanted over and over, looking very much like they may storm the Tudor-style clubhouse, the roar carrying all the way to Peachtree. It was thrilling, exhilarating, even a bit frightening for those caught in the middle of the mob. Then .
