KL Rahul finally did justice to his immense talent as his belligerent century took India to 167 for 5 against England at lunch in pursuit of a mammoth 464 on the final day of the fifth Test. Rahul smashed an unbeaten 108 off 126 balls with the help of 17 boundaries and a six off Ben Stokes while England struck twin blows towards the end of the session to remain on course for a 4-1 series victory. This is his fifth Test hundred and first 50 plus score of the series after failing in nine successive innings. Rahul added 118 runs for the fourth wicket with vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane (37, 106 balls) before an indiscreet paddle sweep off Moeen Ali brought about the latter's downfall. Hanuma Vihari (0) didn't have the luck of the first innings as Ben Stokes got him to nick one to Jonny Bairstow behind the stumps. Starting from overnight 58/3, Rahul and his fourth-wicket partner Ajinkya Rahane (37) looked to play for time. Thanks to the heavy roller, the wicket wasn't doing too much again as

The Sports Authority of India Tuesday said five shooting coaches were rejected from a list of 29 submitted by the national shooting federation for not meeting the requisite criteria and termed the NRAI's objection to its decision as "illogical". The SAI's decision to dismiss the appointment of five shooting coaches irked the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) President Raninder Singh, who wrote a letter to the government body, stating the move was "insensitive" and an "affront to our sport and human intellect". But SAI responded sharply, saying that it was "surprised" by such a late reaction from the NRAI after it "duly acknowledged" the decision conveyed to it on July 26. "SAI held discussions with NRAI on the panel of 29 coaches which was submitted for appointment for the training of Indian shooters. Following these detailed consultations, a panel of 24 coaches was approved," SAI Special Director General Onkar Kedia said in a letter addressed to the NRAI President. "The ...

"Pre-season has been fantastic for the boys and myself along with the entire coaching staff. The squad has worked really hard on their fitness, with all the new boys grasping things very quickly," said CFC head coach John Gregory. He said it has also been a great learning curve for the boys from the 'B' team who travelled with and trained with the senior (squad). CFC began its ...
Indian boxers Lovlina Borgohain (69kg) and Ritu Grewal (51kg) notched up contrasting victories in the opening round of the 13th International Silesian Championship for women being held in Gliwice, Poland. Borgohain prevailed 4-1 against Russia's Elmira Azizova Monday night, a silver-medallist at the Nation's Cup earlier this year besides a bronze-winner at the Russian national championships. Borgohain will next be up against Czech Republic's Martina Schmoranzova. The Indian is a gold-medallist from the India Open and a bronze-winner from the Ulaanbaatar Cup in Mongolia, earlier this year. Grewal defeated local favourite Asanowicz Roza in a unanimous verdict of 5-0. She will now square off against Svetlana Soluianova of Russia in the second round. Former undisputed world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson will grace the launch of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Kumite 1 League as a mentor here on September 29.
Rishabh Pant's glovework has been shoddy in England and he needs to cover a lot of ground before he can be trusted as a Test-level wicket-keeper, some of the former India stumpers said Tuesday. The 20-year-old has conceded an unprecedented 76 byes in six innings in the ongoing Test series against England although at least 20-25 of those runs were not exactly his fault. After watching him closely, former India 'keepers Nayan Mongia, Kiran More and Deep Dasgupta believe that the Rourkee youngster is still a "work in progress". But at the same time, they want the selectors to have a clear cut policy on young keepers given that Wriddhiman Saha is unlikely to start playing before another three to four months. "He (Pant) is still very raw and I think it's a wrong policy to pick players based on their IPL form. His basics of keeping are not correct. My concern is if he is not able to keep to spinners in England, he will have problems on fourth and fifth day tracks in the sub-continent," ...
Finland Formula One driver Kimi Raikkonen is to leave Scuderia Ferrari at the end of the 2018 season, returning to Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team on a two-year contract, both teams announced on Tuesday.
Roy Keane faces calls for him to be sacked as assistant manager of the Republic of Ireland by arguably the country's two most respected former players, Johnny Giles and Liam Brady. The fiery Keane -- who infamously was sent home from Ireland's pre-2002 World Cup training camp following a tirade of abuse aimed at then-manager Mick McCarthy in front of the rest of the squad -- is under fire over a recording which allegedly has him swearing at midfielder Harry Arter and veteran striker Jonathan Walters in a training ground bust-up earlier this year as they prepared for friendlies with France and the United States. The revelations came to light through a voicemail Irish defender Stephen Ward shared with friends and which was later leaked to social media. Walters apparently came close to blows with Keane whilst Arter walked off with a volley of abuse ringing in his ears as Keane questioned whether he was injured. Ward was not present during the separate incidents and Keane was said by ...

He has been nurtured by the Scuderia Ferrari for several years and is managed by Nicolas Todt, son of former Ferrari team principal and ...
Asian Games gold medal-winning Indian boxer Amit Panghal was Tuesday nominated for this year's Arjuna awards by the Boxing Federation of India. Amit, who claimed the light flyweight (49kg) category gold after defeating reigning Olympic champion Hasanboy Dusmatov of Uzbekistan in the Asiad final, joined Sonia Lather and Gaurav Bidhuri in the list of boxing nominees for the second highest sporting honour after the Khel Ratna. "I am honoured to be nominated, I can't describe how happy I am. My medal is talking for me and that is what I have always wanted," the 22-year-old Amit, only the eighth Indian boxer to claim an Asiad gold, told PTI. There were doubts on whether he would be considered given a positive dope test back in 2012, for which he served a one-year ban. However, given the fact that he is done with the punishment for the "inadvertent" violation and that it happened when he was competing at the youth level, the BFI decided to send his name to the Ministry. "It happened when I .
