Ahead of the 2018 Mens Hockey World Cup Tournament in the state, Odisha government has decided to launch a build-up campaign in 17 cities from August 29, an official said today. "The campaign will be organised in Rourkela, Mumbai, New Delhi, Bhubaneswar and other important cities and hockey playing states. A number of internationally-acclaimed sports celebrities will take part in promotion of the mega event," Odisha Sports secretary Vishal Dev told reporters here. Gold medallists Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat will be promoted to the rank of gazetted officers after their big win at the 18th Asian Games in Jakarta, ministry officials said today. A senior official said they would be promoted as per the recently announced policy of the railways. On August 3, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal had approved a new policy for promotion of railway sportspersons. Under the policy, in addition to sportspersons who won a medal in the Olympics, Padma Shri awardee players and coaches will be promoted as officers. "In order to give due recognition to the effort put in by sportspersons, who have made two appearances in the Olympics, won a medal in the Asian Games/the Common Wealth Games, it has now been decided to award them with a promotion to the officer rank," the ministry had said in a statement. The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) has given recognition to India's indigenous sport of Kho-Kho, a development that has been welcomed by Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore. The decision to recognise Kho-Kho was taken in the General Assembly of the OCA held here on August 19. Kho-Kho will now be included as a demonstration sport in the Asian Indoor Games, with the possibility of being included as a discipline in the next Asian Games, official sources told PTI.
