Amateur Seher Atwal shares lead with Tvesa, Neha in WPG Tour

Amateur Seher Atwal grabbed a share of the lead after a two-under 70 in the first round of the 10th leg of the Hero Women's Professional Golf Tour at Clover Greens here today. Seher, whose elder sister Mehar is already a professional, shared the lead with seasoned Tvesa Malik and Neha Tripathi, who holds the top two spots on the Hero WPGT Order of Merit. On a day when there were four sub-par scores, Amandeep Drall also shot one-under 71. Amandeep with two birdies and 2 bogeys in the first half was level till the 10th hole. She birdied the 11th and parred the rest. Vani Kapoor, who has been playing outside India, carded one-over 73 to be Tied-5th with Gaurika Bishnoi. UAE, Palestine added to Asian Games football after mix-up

The United Arab Emirates and Palestine were Wednesday officially added to the football tournament at the Asian Games after they were accidentally omitted from the original draw. The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) conducted a limited re-draw at their headquarters in Kuala Lumpur to include the two sides alongside 24 others taking part in football at the Games, which begin next month. AFC secretary-general Windsor John said Games organisers failed to pass the names of UAE and Palestine to his body for the initial draw, even though both teams had attempted to register. John said he was not sure what caused the problem, adding "it could be some computer glitch, it could be some communication breakdown". He stressed the AFC was not running the competition, and was conducting the draw on behalf of the Olympic Council of Asia and the Indonesian organising committee. Serena Williams to play 2 events in run-up to US Open

Serena Williams will play in the Rogers Cup next month at Montreal after she competes in next week's new Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic in San Jose, California. Williams, a 23-time Grand Slam champion, is returning to the Bay Area for what is the former Stanford WTA stop that moved to San Jose State University for the first time. The event runs from July 30 to August 5. Rogers Cup tournament officials announced Tuesday that Williams received a wild card into that event, which begins Aug. 3. Her ranking jumped from No. 181 to No. 28 after her run at Wimbledon. The 36-year-old has played in four tournaments this year after giving birth last year. Gangjee, Rashid among former Asian tour winners to compete at Louis Philippe Cup

Former Asian tour winners, including Rahil Gangjee and Rashid Khan, will be among the 132 golfers who have confirmed their participation for the Inaugural Louis Philippe Cup to be held at the picturesque Prestige Golfshire Club from July 31 to August 4. The USD 75000 tournament, which is being co-sanctioned by ADT (Asian Development Tour event) and PGTI (Professional Golfers Tour of India), will see a total of 60 foreign golfers representing 20 countries competing in a strong field. The field is expected to comprise the likes of Asian tour winners Gaurav Ghei, Mukesh Kumar and Himmat Rai. Gaganjeet Bhullar will look to continue his good form as he eyes his 10th title at the Fiji International golf tournament, co-sanctioned by the Asian and European Tours, starting at the Natadola Bay course here tomorrow. Boxing Federation eyes one Asian Olympic Qualifier next year

The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) might bid for the hosting rights of an Olympic Qualifying tournament next year, continuing its efforts to bring big-ticket events to the country after managing to bag the men's and women's world championships. "Yes, the discussions are on. The plan is being prepared and BFI is set to try and bring an Olympic qualifying event to India. It is a long drawn process but the first steps have been taken," a top BFI official told PTI on condition of anonymity. If successful, it would be the first time that India would host an Olympic qualifying tournament. Efforts have been made in the past by the erstwhile Indian Amateur Boxing Federation to get the hosting rights of Asian qualifiers but they were not successful.
