The 18-year-old Das, a pre-tournament favourite, clocked 51.46s to win the gold, which triggered a wild celebration at the Indian camp. This was though not her personal best as she had clocked 51.13 last month in Guwahti at the National Inter State Championships. Former Polish international Jerzy Brzeczek was appointed head coach of the national team, the country's football association announced today. The 47-year-old replaces Adam Nawalka, whose highly-fancied national squad were eliminated in the group stage of the World Cup in Russia. Brzeczek was a midfielder who captained Poland, won 42 caps, scored four goals and was part of the team that were runners-up at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona. He played for a string of Polish and Austrian clubs and had a stint with Maccabi Haifa in a 20-year career. The Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) today urged its players, both men and women, to form their respective associations immediately in conformity with the recommendations of Justice Lodha panel. It suggested that the players can form a Steering Committee with senior members like Shivlal Yadav, Arshad Ayub, VVS Laxman, SL Venkatapathi Raju and Noel David for the formation of the Association. Former Mumbai stumper Vinayak Samant has been appointed as the new coach of the Mumbai Ranji team for the upcoming season. The Mumbai Cricket Association also appointed Wilkin Mota as the coach of its Under 19 team. The announcements were made by MCA Joint Secretary Unmesh Khanvilkar after the cricket body's Cricket Improvement Committee met here for two days to decide on the new coach.
