Hamilton backtracks while Ferrari boss attacks Mercedes
While Lewis Hamilton backtracked on his criticism of Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen on Monday, the Italian team's chief Maurizio Arrivabene launched a scathing attack on the Mercedes team. Hamilton said he had accepted the Finn's apology for driving into him in Sunday's British Grand Prix and learned from his own "dumb" reaction to the incident. As Arrivabene raged at Mercedes' ungentlemanly behaviour and post-race suggestions of deliberate underhand tactics, Hamilton said Sunday's collision was "a racing incident and nothing more." The collision on the opening lap was the second in three races in which a Ferrari had hit a Mercedes, which led to several at Mercedes to question the Italian team's tactics. Fast rising Indian sprinter Hima Das will start as favourite to win the women's 400m race gold in the IAAF World Under-20 Athletics Championships which begin here tomorrow. It is a rare occasion that an Indian sprinter lines up in a global championship as the one to beat, with the the 18-year-old Das being the U-20 season leader in this quartermile event. If the Assam girl, who runs in the the heats tomorrow, happens to win the gold, she will become the first Indian athlete to do so in a track event in an U-20 World Championships. Star Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra had won a gold in the last edition of this championship in Poland in 2016 with a world junior record effort which still stands to his name. CCCC 2018: National Inter-school crossword contest to begin tomorrow
The sixth edition of the national inter-school CCCC Cryptic Crossword Contest will begin tomorrow at the Kendriya Vidyalaya at Delhi Cantt here. The contest, which started in 2013, will be inaugurated by Bihar Governor Satyapal Malik. "The contest is a two-stage event. In the first, city rounds are held across the country while in the second, the winners battle it out at the grand finale. "The school team which wins the grand finale lifts the National Crossword Champion trophy," a release said. Students from Class 9 to 12 can participate in the contest and all teams will be awarded certificates. Winners will be given cash prizes. There are four NCR rounds for Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida and Ghaziabad. There will be 37 more city rounds in the July-September period before a line-up for the finals is decided. FC Goa has signed Mizoram goalkeeper Lalthuammawia Ralte from Bengaluru FC for the upcoming season of Indian Super League (ISL).The 25-year-old joined Bengaluru FC in the summer of 2014 and helped the club to win I-league title in his debut season.Reflecting on Ralte's inclusion in the club, FC Goa head coach Sergio Lobera said that the goalkeeper's playing style exactly matches with that of the club and that he has got all the required skills to fit in the team."After Naveen left we did a market research in order to find the best possible option to improve last season's numbers. Shubhankar Sharma, the toast of Indian golf this season, will make his Hero Challenge debut at the iconic Edinburgh Castle. The event precedes the Scottish Open this week. Former Barca boss Enrique named Spain coach
Former Barcelona coach Luis Enrique was appointed Spain's new coach today after previous incumbent Julen Lopetegui was sacked on the eve of the World Cup. "Luis Enrique's appointment as coach for the next two years was approved unanimously," Luis Rubiales, president of the Spanish football federation, told reporters. His press briefing came just hours after Jose Francisco Molina, 47, a former goalkeeper at Atletico Madrid and Deportivo La Coruna who played nine times for Spain, was named as sporting director. Enrique, 48, will replace Lopetegui, who was fired by Rubiales when the coach announced he had signed to take over at Real Madrid. Wimbledon chiefs insisted again today that the men's final will start at its traditional time despite it clashing with a potential England World Cup triumph. The All England Club has come under increasing pressure to rethink its 2pm (1300GMT) start time for Sunday's men's singles final with the football showpiece in Moscow kicking off at 4pm in the UK (1500GMT).
