MCA asks Wadekar about continuation in CIC

The Mumbai Cricket Association has asked former India skipper Ajit Wadekar whether he wishes to continue in the association's Cricket Improvement Committee (CIC). The 77-year-old Wadekar and former Mumbai batsman Amol Mazumdar are members of the CIC, which can have a maximum of six members. "I asked Mr Wadekar last Friday and again earlier this week, whether he wants to continue in the CIC. We are waiting for his reply," a senior MCA official told PTI. Last week Wadekar, who led India to their first Test series win in the West Indies and England in 1971, was discharged from a city hospital after recuperating from an illness. It is understood that Wadekar has attended only a few CIC meetings in the past. Kabaddi World Cup in Dubai not official yet, IKF to discuss budget with UAE

Kabadi World Cup is set to move out of India as a vibrant Dubai was today unanimously chosen as host city for the next edition in 2019, by the International Kabaddi Federation members. An official announcement will be made later as the IKF will discuss "budget and logistic issues" with the UAE government tomorrow. Slated in February-March next year, the World Cup will be bigger with 16 teams as 2016 World Cup in Ahmedabad featured 12 teams. The IKF will also conduct qualifiers. India's junior men's team put up a clinical performance to beat Bangladesh senior team 4-0 in the first practice match played here at the SAI today. Rohit Kumar signs two-year extension with FC Pune City

Central midfielder Rohit Kumar today signed a two-year extension contract with Indian Super League (ISL) club FC Pune City. Kumar (21), who was drafted by the club in 2017, will remain with the 'Stallions' through the 2018-19 and 2019-2020 seasons. "Rohit has been one of the most impressive young talents we drafted last season. Weightlifting: Mirabai to lead Indian challenge at Asian Games

World Champion Saikhom Mirabai Chanu will spearhead the Indian weightlifting challenge in the upcoming Asian Games as the national federation named a five-member team today. Mirabai, who won gold in the world championships last year and Commonwealth Games in April, will compete in women's 48kg while Rakhi Halder has been named as the second women and will take part in 63kg. The three men are CWG gold medallist Sathish Sivalingam and Ajay Singh (both 77kg) and CWG bronze medalist Vikas Thakur (94kg). Khattar rides motorcycle in Karnal, carries out surprise inspection

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar sprang a surprise today, riding a motorcycle to reach the Karan Stadium here for a surprise inspection of development works at the sports facility.
