Platini tells AFP: FIFA must now end his ban

Former UEFA president Michel Platini told AFP today he hoped FIFA would have "the decency" to lift his ban over a 1.8-million-euro payment from the world footballing body. "I hope that FIFA will have the courage and the decency to lift my suspension," Platini said in a telephone interview, referring to a four-year ban on his involvement in any footballing activities which expires in October 2019. "If not, my legal advisers will take all the necessary measures to ensure the FIFA suspension is lifted. This soap opera isn't over yet," he warned. Platini was speaking after French newspaper Le Monde reported that he has been cleared by a Swiss prosecutor over the payment. The payment was authorised by FIFA's then chief Sepp Blatter. Blatter is also now banned. The unprecedented scandal rocked world football, with ...

Rana's silly dismissal turned the match for SRH: Karthik

Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Dinesh Karthik blamed Nitish Rana's 'silly' runout for their defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad in the second IPL qualifier here. Chasing 175 to win, KKR got off to an explosive start with an opening stand of 40 from 20 balls and after Sunil Narine's fiery innings, Chris Lynn anchored the ship with Rana who was promoted to No 3. The duo were going great guns with 87/1 before Rashid Khan triggered the collapse in the ninth over with a fine throw from deep midwicket to dismiss Rana for 22. "Rana's wicket changed the course of the game. If he had pushed at that stage, the game could have been ours. It was a silly dismissal and very crucial at that stage," Karthik rued. Next to follow was Robin Uthappa who became Rashid Khan's first victim playing a rash reverse sweep to be out cheaply for eight. "Robin Uthappa played a poor stroke and I think he will also admit that it was not a great shot at that stage," Karthik said. Kolkata went on to lose five wickets in 31 ..

Rashid blitz was not a surprise: Yusuf

Rashid Khan may have surprised many with his absolute blinder with the bat against Kolkata Knight Riders in the second qualifier but for the Sunrisers Hyderabad camp it was 'not a surprise', said veteran Yusuf Pathan. At a time when 150 looked tough, Rashid came out to bat at No 8 and slammed an unbeaten 10-ball 34 as Hyderabad scored 50 runs in the last three overs to post a total of 174/7 in their 14-run victory here last night. "We were never surprised by his knock. Many a times he scored in sixes and boundaries in the Big Bash and other franchise tournaments across the world. He has contributed with quickfire cameos of 20-30s," Yusuf said at the post-match news conference. Tidy bowling by Kolkata spinners Kuldeep Yadav(2/29) and Sunil Narine (1/24) had stifled the Sunrisers after Dinesh Karthik opted to bowl but Rashid changed the complexion of the game. "He always had the ability to bat that's why he was promoted by one place. Against Chennai also he hit a couple of sixes. We ...
