Former All-England champion and celebrated badminton coach Pullela Gopichand on Sunday lauded the Indian athletes on their spectacular performance in the recently concluded Commonwealth Games.Speaking to ANI Gopichand said that the gold medal in the badminton team championship was the highlight of the 21st edition of the Games for him."I think overall the team's performance has been very good. When you look at different events, everyone has played well whether it is Saina, Sindhu, Srikanth or others. New Zealand pacer Adam Milnehas replaced injured Australian fast bowler Pat Cummins in the Mumbai Indians squad for the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League. Milne has been signed by the Mumbai Indians as a replacement for the injured Pat Cummins for the IPL 2018, a media release from the IPL said. Milne has represented New Zealand in 40 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and 19 T20 Internationals. He was a part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore earlier. Yuki Bhambri won his first singles Challenger title of the 2018 season, and seventh overall, when he outplayed compatriot Ramkumar Ramanathan 6-3 6-4 in the final of the Taipei event, a victory which will push him back into the top-100 bracket. Fourth seed Yuki, who skipped last week's Davis Cup tie in China due to a minor abdomen injury, needed one hour and 29 minutes to down Ramkumar in the all-Indian clash. Commonwealth Games 2018: Rly athletes win 10 out of 26 golds
Indian Railways today said that it was a matter of pride that 40 per cent of gold medals for India, 10 out of 26 in the recently concluded Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, were won by Railway athletes. The Indian contingent, with 66 medals in all, turned in its finest performance ever at the CWG games standing third in the medals tally. Railway officials today said that the results convincingly proved the public transporter's sports motto "Think Sports, Think Railways". "It is a matter of great pride that forming 25 per cent of the Indian contingent, Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) athletes clinched 40 per cent of the total golds won by India. Railway athletes won 10 Golds, one Silver and four Bronze medals in the CWG games," Rekha Yadav, Executive Director, and RSPB Secretary, said in a statement. State-level sports meet in Coimbatore from tomorrow
A total of 1,650 students from 36 constituent and affiliated colleges of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) across the state would take part in a five-day inter-collegiate sports and games meet beginning here tomorrow. Teams would be awarded with winners and runners-up trophy, a TNAU release said today. Besides, there would be 16 athletic events for boys and girls separately, where individual athletes would be awarded with medals, it said.
